  • Another summer solstice has come and come. It was paired with a full moon the next day, an event that only happens once ever 20 years or so. Here are my thoughts on the year's half way point.

    what a beautiful way to celebrate the summer solstice. sounds like the perfect way, imho. i need to focus on the positive more. i hope pge has done a good job with the trees and brush. i hope the fire crews contain small fires quickly and we all are safer. slightly cooler here, what a blessing. i have a friend in arkansas who is under a heat dome. she lives in an older trailer and has really been struggling with the extreme heat. i hope her area gets much needed relief soon. i hope today is a good one for you (and me). take care and keep hydrated.

      These heat domes are hideous. We had a cloud cover all day and it only got to 80, which is perfect. I was outside until about 9:30 am. Even had some very light rain. I feel so badly for people in trailers. There is really no defense against the elements.

    I'm grateful for the life that I have I can't complain and I will not complain because it doesn't fix anything. We are glass compared to other people that they don't have what we have and yes my summer solstice was very nice I actually saw the Moon it was so beautiful 🤩

      The moon was so beautiful! I think it's OK to be frustrated at time but when complaining becomes a lifestyle choice, then it's bad news for everyone

      I'm putting up a video tonight with what I heard. I've been hearing it for years and no one can tell me definitively what it is. It's not the same sound as yours, however. 🦊

    I hear you. I am with you on this. I totally get it.I have been living at Zillow. Something happens to the home and I am just done, absolutely done. This week has been a Zillow week. Then it gets fixed. I try again. Then something else happens. I keep trying to be positive and say "Life and adventures in an older home" This year has been brutal. I get it. Then things get fixed. I know I am truly blessed to have such a great home. She is built beautiful and strong. I paid pennies for her. My home is now worth almost four times what I paid for her! My area is growing and becoming gentrified. I don't drive so that is really important for me. Like you I realize how blessed I am. I have this home with my beautiful backyard that brings me such joy. I would not have my dogs if I didn't have my home. They are my life. Everyday I wake up is full of lots of love. I have a great husband who can actually fix things, lol. I have wonderful friends who I treasure. I also talk to my friends and others I realize they are going through the same things but differently. Sometimes worse but always full of tips. Maybe, our homes know we are cheating on them and looking at Zillow. Maybe, that is why they are acting up, lol.
    Raccoon's bark, foxes have this sweet yippy bark.

      I did not know that raccoons bark. Will have to research this as I've heard this sound over and over again in the summer at night. I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets mad at my house! I think we've made up, though - for now!

    On my live you could hear the fire helicopters going overhead to the dam by us to get water. Fires in both directions from us (not too near us for once). The fire spotter plane has been flying over all day to keep a check on them. Also - your olive tree/channel name was on one of my recent shorts!!!! Wise inspiring words from you as always - This morning I pressed my life reset button! Much love my awesome friend.

      I'm so glad you are able to reset! What an ordeal. We have at least one helicopter in the county, it was purchased several years ago. I mainly hear the planes going overhead because I am south county. Hoping that you are OK from the fires (and everything else).

    Thank you for keeping me company as I worked in the kitchen this morning. Yes, it is amazing how a good chat with a friend who lifts you up can just soothe your soul. I have been rereading one of my favorite cook books More With Less Cookbook by Doris Jansen Longacre. I bought it many years ago at my favorite hole in the wall hippy dippy used book store. I have the 1979 edition. Living in the country is a lot of work..but I would never want to be in the city again. I hope your challenges are resolved soon.

      Interesting. I just looked up that cookbook and put it on my wishlist. It looks great. I love those type of cookbooks - more than food, but also lifestyle. My Laurel's Kitchen book is the same, except they weren't too adept at seasoning the food! That said, I love to read the intro and the author's notes and observation. It's a whole culture.

    Hello my dear. Great visit with you. We have had the firefighters all camped out at our fairgrounds for over a week. Most of them have gone home now and the fire is finally contained. My good friend didn’t loose her home but it came right up to their front porch. How scary is that .

    • @MyMountainHomeandKitchen
      @MyMountainHomeandKitchen  24 дні тому

      OMG with the front porch - that is TERRIFYING! I have noticed that the whole concept of structure defense is much more developed as the years go by. Thank God, but how awful. Glad it's calmed down over there. We are all now looking at another heat wave - fingers crossed for no more fires.
