I was 16 when this came out. It’s hard to describe just how big they were when this came out. I got to see them twice in 2006 and 2007. My favourite gig moments by far. The energy from them and the crowd was unbelievable. Going out at a young age when this came out was something else as you were living the night life they were describing as it came out.
My favorite is still View from the Afternoon, it's just the perfect mix of smooth, jazzy, raw, energetic and borderline punk for me (I know these genres wouldn't normally go together, but listen to this song, man - it has it all).
I feel pretty blessed to have been at uni in Sheffield in 2004 and watching these play pubs that progressively got bigger each month I saw them . Their demo that they gave me was actually better than their album. 20 odd songs. A certain romance and Mardy bum really take me back to that time and place. I still have their first single 1/500 copies made. Must be worth a bit!
@@bound2214 yeah I was 23 in 2004, and during my teens got into nirvana, 70’s punk, old rock etc and always read up on those scenes and fantasised about seeing a band ‘make’ it. I knew from the first time I saw arctic monkeys. I’d never been so sure of anything in my life. They had it. From 2004-07 I saw them play in front of 20 people, 50, 200, 500, 1500 and then 100,000 at Glastonbury. My journey was complete. I’ve never listened or followed a scene since. I had my time, and have enough decades of proper music to follow and listen to
Mate I’ve imagined that exact scenario. I’m at sheffield uni now and listening to arctic monkeys is like a right of passage 😂, living in sheff just makes the music make so much more sense lol
Really enjoying your reactions guys, so genuine and chill between two friends! Arctic Monkeys scratched my brain in a good way when I was 15 and I've been obsessed with them since then, I am turning 20 this year!
Great reaction guy's, to answer a question at the end this album came out when i was 24 and it's still a banger now that I'm 40 hearing it again, thanks for the trip down memory lane!
i been watchin alotta people react to the monkeys and there’s some that catch my attention? ones where someone makes their dad or an older person listen to their records. so like they used to listen to rock in their time and now AM is pretty much the only mainstream rock going on, so kinda awesome to hear their opinions on that. Good start lads, I’m glad y’all understand the meaning and stories behind the songs than just bop heads and move ahead
i’m american and i absolutely love am!! this album is actually my favorite of mine, despite it not being relatable to me at all 😭 just shows how good it is, though! he makes uk youth in the 00s seem so cool hahaha, makes me envious of anyone who got to experience growing up in that sort of culture :,)
Nice reaction fellas, and yeah, A Certain Romance's probably the best song they ever made, and, as the last song of their best album, is the cherry to the cake.
You mentioned the Strokes. When they came out in 2002 they became more popular in the UK than America. Like The Killers experienced too. It started an indie revival in the UK, and one of Alex’s favourite bands and inspiration was The Strokes.
What ever you do, do not skip their 3rd album *Humbug...* Its a completely different beast compared to the first two albums, but it's one of their best... Equally as good as their debut in my opinion.
@@lukef4166 nah mate, everyone hated Humbug when it came out because it was so different from anything they had previously released, only for it to eventually become a fan favorite (at least to people who don't just listen to AM)... You genuinely need to listen to it a few times and it just gets stuck in your head... Not a single bad song on it.
@@Ennui. Or people who also just know 505. Btw Humbug is pretty good but not anything to excellent to me. Whatever People Say I Am and Favorite Worst Nightmare are my favorites
You both should listen to Joey Badass' debut album 1999 if you have not yet. :) One of the albums I consider have zero skips, boombap beats with ridiculous lyricism from a 17-year old, rugged 90s NY style.
Mi álbum favorito junto a "The Queen is Dead". Te recomiendo una banda Argentina llamada Soda Stereo, probablemente sea la mas conocida en Latinoamérica. Saludos desde Argentina!
Weird seeing young ppl react to this album. Seen them do one of their first gig in Newcastle in 2004. Makes me feel old as fuck and miss the good times!
I know someone recommended Favourite Worst Nightmare, but it's quite similar to this album. I would go straight to AM. It's so different, that I'm curious what you guys would think of it.

Wow must’ve been an experience and a half!
@@bound2214 Amazing times! I was 18 when the first album came out, saw them at Rock City in Notts. Unofrgetable energy, the original line up as well.
I am Brazilian and i love Arctic monkeys, this album is absolutely amazing. Btw the accent of Alex turner makes everything better
That’s awesome!! 100% I agree, good to have a northern British accent succeeding in music
@@bound2214 very beautiful 💕
Brazilian too and gotta say, as a dude, I'd kiss Alex's mouth for 50 cents
I don't know why, but I just love all his albums and the way his voice/accent sounds in his songs
@@patao7554 me too,is everything very good
I knew when he said when the sun goes down was his favourite, he'd change his mind after A certain romance. Best song they've made imo ✌️
It was extremely naive of me looking back haha!
@@bound2214 haha gotta do favourite worst nightmare too bro

That’s so so awesome I’d love to share a similar journey with another artist one day, thanks for watching!

You've got to do Favourite Worst Nightmare too! Every album of theirs is uniquely different and each one sort of leans into the other musically.
Bloody great album, one of the best!
Epic background poster and great video! (:

My favourite album ever
I’m from America and I’ve been heavy into Arctic Monkeys for like 5 years. But I discovered them through “Do I Wanna Know?”
Ayyy love that

No no got to see the evolution
Nah...
Can't skip Humbug and SIAS.
There'd be no AM without those two, cause AM is practically a mixture of both.
Love thiss

I’m sure that will be coming in the near future.
could u guys do first royal blood album( if u never heard 'bout them)
Hey guys, check out the Brad Taste in Music reaction to this album. He’s an American on UA-cam, I think you’ll enjoy it.
Found a fellow Bradley enjoyer
Can you react to John frusciante ‘The Empyrean’
Thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks, if you do, can you do the one with the 3 extra songs: “here air”, “today” and “ah yom” 👍🏽
