  • Well it was something I never thought I would do is buying this truck and after 4 months although it really hasn't caused me any issues I wish I had never bought it. All for one main reason.

I have a 2021 2500hd base model double cab long bed. 10,000 miles. Averaging 15.2 mpg. After driving it this long I really like it. Comfortable for long drives. Fast on the road. Excellent brakes. Tows smooth. Shift lever knob is perfect, I don't have small hands. Great interior ergonomics. Very quiet. The giant hand holds work well and are very stout. Seats are excellent. I don't have power seats and don't need it. Overall I really like it. Headlights are bright. The truck feels light and nimble on the road at speed. I'm good with it. Out the door for $49,744.

I’d like the see the maintenance on all three diesel trucks. I’m talking 200k plus miles and what had to be replaced on each. These comparisons of people who only put 30-60k miles and get a new one are worthless

It’s a lot. I owned a Powerbroke and it had 180,000 on it. Every time it broke (it broke a lot) it cost well over a thousand to repair. The oil changes alone were expensive with the volume of oil it required. I gave up on the powerchoke , doing a 6.0 GMC gas now.

If you don't have power seats you need to add spacer blocks to the seats and raise them 1.5". Then the hood isn't an issue. Visibility is great once the seats are raised.

I have a 2001 Chevy 2500HD LB7 Duramax the only things other then regular maintenance of oil change and filters and wiper blades. The rear end seal where the drive shift goes in had a small leak replaced the seal, and replaced the two rubber fuel lines to the fuel filter housing because they looked a little dry rot.. Not bad for a 21 year old truck. And it gets 23 mpg highway and 16 mpg city. The older 01 and 02 Chevy 2500HD body is a favorite among many.

I'm looking to get a new truck in the next few years, or when the prices are more reasonable, which ever comes first. I must say, my 2013 Sierra 1500 has enough blind spots as it is, had plenty of close calls with it. The nice thing about where I work we tend to use a lot of rental trucks so it's like a month long test drive.
The Ram 2500 HD (2019 or 2020 model) with the Cummings was a really smooth riding truck. But what I really didn't like was the arm rest are too low, and the seat didn't lower, which I really didn't like. But like you, I've heard that after 100,000 km's you have to replace the front end on the Ram 1500's, don't know if that is the case for the HD models.
I'll have to try to get one of the GM 2500's this fall to try out. As it stands, I'm leaning towards Ford for my next truck, but I've got lots of time to look around. Something else I've been told is to look at the trucks Irving uses, Ford and Toyota. Thanks for your insight.

We have a 24’ enclosed trailer we pull 20 weekends per year max for racing. The rest of the year our truck is a daily driver. It’s perfect for us. 2023 Chevy 2500 LT alskan edition. We didn’t want to try to pull a trailer with a half-ton. It’s great for us. Only problem, the ride is bad while not towing, and the wiper stalk sucks. Otherwise it’s great!

That IFS system was designed for more weight like the diesel option. That front end is unloaded essentially. Helps with a load and with most IFS systems they get better ride wise with age as the horizontal spring softens so does the ride not many suspension systems get better with age

Modern design for trucks must be masculine and I love that you called out the manufacture on the bad hood design. They get longer and wider every generation of trucks. The material for the body gets cheaper and thinner in order to make up for the added “mass” I personally don’t believe gmc or Chevy as it’s sister company really know how to make a good truck anymore. They just go for what they believe what most people want. Unfortunately that leaves the working man out of the picture. Less options for a simple truck and more for luxury. I miss when a truck was a truck not a staple of masculinity and financial wealth. I’m 23 and grew up with my head in vehicles from well before my time. Mainly trucks and farm equipment. Heavy, slow, loud, but never let you down when I mattered most.

I wish the would put cameras on the front of these for parking, even my Ford it feels like the fronts are way bigger than they are. I hate how when it's raining and you come to a stop all the water from the hood flies into the windshield on the ford's too...the fact fords are aluminum (partially) makes them feel such lighter then these sheet metal trucks, coupled with the ten speeds they're definitely on to something with the weight to power ratios...great video man, love your real world usage, actually work these things

I have a 2020 gmc 2500 gas truck virtually identical to yours, now at almost 9,000 miles. I don't understand your comment aboout it "going flat" on acceleration. Mine accelerates great and is fun to drive. I traded a 2019 Duramax 2500 for this truck. The gasser is much more fun to drive than the diesel and pulls our 8k lb travel trailer just fine.
I just wonder if you have a problem with your engine software? I've read a lot of reviews on the new gasser and never seen a complaint on solo performance.

If you are asking me, no snow plow package. I live in North Alabama.
It's really too big, heavy, and expensive to take off road, and I haven't had an opportunity yet. I reduce tire pressure 10 in rear and 5 in front to improve the ride when not towing. 7-800 lbs in the bed helps the ride also. When we tow the truck itself is 9300 lbs gross and rides well

I love my 2020 6.7. I'm getting 26mpg(9.0L/100km) I just made a 4800km trip to PEI from Ontario and back, pulling my 12k fifthwheel, the average for the trip was 15.3L/100km(15.37mpg US) there were spots on the flat where I was down to 12L/100km and up to 19l/100km. I test drove every combination of super duty(250, 350, 6.2 6spd/10spd, 7.3w/3.55, 3.73, 4.30) and none came close to the 2019 6.7 w 3.55(haha 475lbft vs 935lbft no comparison). The $10950 diesel option is worth every cent. I couldn't get 15L/100km at cruise with any 7.3 and the 6.2 never impressed me, I knew I couldn't deal with the screaming(+4k rpm) pulls when out with my RV. Hopefully the 2023 trucks are changed(and not on the chip shortage delay) when I trade this one in lol

As I've said on other posts...
    About pickups in general...
They are often a fashion statement. There are DEFINITELY trades and cottagers that require a 4x4 pickup.... I get it you have to tell your giant boat to and from your cottage up a muddy hill... but there are definitely better and more affordable options, that are more tried and true.
Personally, i dont want to drive anywhere where I NEED a 4x4.... who wants to get stuck or delayed ? Not me anyways. The Jeep lifestyle of considering it as some sort of rite of passage as a man to have rolled over your vehicle while trying to climb the steepest hill is teenage stupidity.
More to the point.... and from my long experience with pickups, vans, minivans and cars.....
4x4 puckups have many Achilles heels.
    Some of which are...
Much bigger purchase price, more noise, tire scrub, too many parts, too expensive to drive, more weight, more needless bed height, most peopoe that buy them only really need the 4x4 to be on 5% of the time, the gas consumption goes up, etc. Etc.....
Never mind that the manufacturers of all 3 - 5 pick up truck companies change all the designs and body work every couple, so they never get to rest on their laurels, and they never get to just live with something as proven. You can't just go to the dealer and say give me a bumper for a Chevrolet pick up truck. You used to be able to do that.
And dont get me started on the real cost if long term deisel ownership....diesel fuel costs more, pollutes more, they are loud..... they are for the big boys... And For some reason everybody wants to be a big boy.
    That being said....
A lot of pickup drivers should consider the chevy express 2500 passenger.
    At least consider it.
They have made it the same way, with the same body for almost 30 years.
6.6 gas with a torque figure of 464 is more power than most need.... you can go 0-100km/h FAST
It seats 12, how can you ask for more than that. 15 if you get the extended.
it seats 5 with a double matress in the back
You can tow 10000 pounds with the thing.
You can do the oil change yourself in 8 minutes.
Everything from the windshield, the bumpers, the wheels, door panels, etc etc. Is interchangeable with literally millions of other express vans. And the body work is all simple and straight... a novice could do bodywork himself. And hardly any exterior plastic. Steel bumpers, folks. I'm talking about steel bumpers that can actually withstand a bump, And that you can go and replace easily at any body shop for a few hundred dollars.
I have one beater van for work and one new mint one for play... both serve me well.
You want a leaky cap? Buy a pickup
You want to get less work done because you cant bring as many tools ? Buy a puckup
You want to HAVE to have a trailer to store / buy / park / maintan drive around / insure / get inspected? Buy a pickup truck.
You like to have to cover everything with a tarp when you want to move your daughter off to college? You know that tarp is gonna be flapping in the breeze and that couch and mattress are gonna be soaking wet from rain.
Work wise...when i do a roof, i put 60 bundles inside along with 5 men, and Im done in a day. A 5 year old van can pay for itself in a week or two.
There are lots of heroes there in the world that want to pull around a giant roofing trailer so that they can play garbage man... They would have much more personal time if they had rented a bin for $400 instead of pinching pennies.
I put more on the roof of my Van than most people would ever dream that they could get in the back of a pickup truck... If I dispose of a fence or a deck I will put 8 sections of fence on the roof of the Van and just toss them off at the garbage dump. This doubles my storage capacity.... And makes my life a hell of a lot easier.
Not that a van cant tow... my new one is good for 10,000 pounds.
Pickups are very useful, Unfortunately they have evolved to the point that they are primarily for the fashionista crowd that wants a new brief rush every couple years, And want to have copious amounts of badges and adornment on the vehicle that say "I Can afford to lease a Hard to park, King Ranch super cab Mega duty 4 by 4 "
This whole making your own roads bullshit is for the cheap crowd leave it to them it doesn't make any money and it isn't fun. Again it's pedestrian and teenage. Kind of like buying a 1994 Honda Civic and thinking it's a goddamn sports car.
I get it I get it.... There are hundreds of thousands of men in the United States alone that NEED heavy duty 4 by 4 king size pick up trucks... HOWEVER I think MOST people would be served by something a lot more is a lot more practical. At least do yourself a favor and investigate the option of getting a van.... They are better for work and better for play in at least 90% of situations.
Personally I went with the Chevrolet because it's more tried and true.
They stopped making those Ford cargo vans many years ago because they were unsafe roll over hazards because they didn't extend the wheelbase when they extended the Van.
And the new Ford cargo vans you can only get a V6 and there's shitty plastic fake bumpers on them which aren't even really bumpers so if you get an a rear end are you Dent your floor and doors.
And those ram pro masters are front wheel drive with the shitty uni link rear suspension... I think they're designed for Europe or something they are garbage
Anyways for my lifestyle I have chosen Chevrolet because I like to work and I like to play and their express vans have done me well... Done a lot more for me than a pickup truck ever could
And they are made in the USA so you're supporting your economy. Even though I live in Canada I still consider that it is supporting my economy by buying American.
The GMC Savanna is exactly the same as the Chevrolet expressed by the way if anybody is wondering.... And if you're going to get either then make sure you get the 6.6 l gas engine, it's got lots of power and lots of speed and it's pretty good on the highway, I get 18 miles per gallon when I'm cruising at 70 miles an hour
not bad for a big safe vehicle
Personally I even drive it in the city too because I'd rather spend more on gas and less on neck surgery if I was driving a shitty Honda Civic or something, On the off chance that somebody hits me

Isn't this truck equipped with the plow prep package? I think you read that off the window sticker the first video you made on this truck. The forums, if I remeber correctly, say that this package makes it ride like garbage, but billstein has a nice shock to help with ride quality. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Just ordered a ‘22 GMC 2500 and wanted the plow pkg but didn’t want the stiffer suspension for the exact reason you mentioned. I noticed when first building it on the GMC site that when adding the plow pkg after adding tye X31 off-road pkg with the Rancho shocks and skid plates the plow pkg only added the upgraded alternator so I went that route.

I second your opinions on this truck. Except I'll add that I think that Chevy's new look is the ugliest design I have ever seen. Definitely really hate these big tall hoods, GM is the worst. Don't care for any of the 3 brands, all of them have tall hoods. Much prefer Fords 99 to 07 hood set up, next Rams from about 03 to 2010.

I think you should try a ram. I think the build quality now is better in Ram than Ford or GM. Front end problems are an issue of the past. Unless you are towing above capacity the 68rfe transmission holds up quite well now behind the diesel and daily drives much better than the Aisin. The 68rfe would be fine in a 2500 Cummins; if going 3500 for heavy towing then, yes, go with Aisin. With the hemi the 8 speed is a heavier duty version of what has been in the 1500's for years with little to no problems. Very good transmission by all accounts.

The Chevy is hideous looking, and the GMC gauges and dash are beyond terrible. I also couldn't stand that GMC hood or RAM 2500 hood as the view is decreased. 100% agree on the stupid design of the GMC. Factory ordered the 2020 F-250 with 7.3 gas. Couldn't be happier. The Ford is so well designed and the view out all the windows are fantastic. Plus our Ford body won't rust with Canada's road salt (huge bonus).

I will say trade it for a Ford ASAP. Even a 5.0 F150 will treat you much better than this. I know plenty of people with these trucks that have nothing but issues, they keep buying them for the hefty discounts they get on them being that their family worked for GM. I’ve seen transmission failures at 20-25k, seen countless parts fail that should not be failing. I know people who lease these and haven’t finished a lease over 5 trucks, without massive failures to the point where the dealer just gives them a new one because it’s not worth all the money to fix them. It’s not lemon law, as they are different parts breaking every time. I know a guy with a construction business and uses a 2015 Silverado 2500 6.0 as his “heavy hauler” towing 10k every couple weeks about 20 miles. He’s got 120k on the clock and a new issue every other week. Such a shame, that GM can’t get their act together. I will say fit and finish of the GM products is much better than RAM but they will not last by any means.

Very comfortable never felt stiff sitting in it no matter how long I was driving in it which my longest drive was 13 hours straight and no issues. Great road visibility and plenty of power. I went from a f350 to a gmc and drive on rough ranch roads, the gmc is 500% better ride then a Ford , and has 0 death wobble, every Ford we have got death wobble . Yes the new trucks have a tall hood and are hard to see over , the engineers are clueless about stuff like that! Covid-19 has caused millions of people to suffer on parts and manufacturing problems no cure for that except waiting on micro processors to catch up, pray that none of your fleet needs any electrical work because of this world wide shortage in parts, snow plowing IMO your just going to have to compromise as those engineers don’t design any trucks for that job , you seem to have lots of cabbage ( $$$$) to buy specific stuff for jobs, spend the money on a single cab 7.3 or 6.4 , 6.6 or a old 6.0 to cover that job , because a 4 door truck isn’t designed for plowing, you are a do dad guy, and need a diesel fuel truck to mess around with to buy do dad’s, you need a pedal monster and custom tune for this truck , so grab some good tires and use this truck for a heavy duty daily driver / Forman truck , you should have bought a snowplow package!!
