PHILIPPINES - Foreigners Explore Holy Week Procession At Molo Church, Iloilo

- Yesterday was good friday and our very first experience of holy week as foreigners at molo church procession in iloilo philippines.
We was warned that most shops will be shut so to buy food in advance and also taxis will be very scarce and tricycles to. These were all very true, iloilo city was a ghost town with only a few jeepneys and the odd few tricycles on the road.
We managed to find a tricycle to molo church were we decided to wait for the procession with all the floats being paraded through the streets. We did not know what would happen because this was our very first experience with any religious festival or celebration.
At around 6pm the procession started with a few prayers in ilongo and then the people walked behind the floats with candles lit along the streets of iloilo. As foreigners this was amazing to see such a huge turn out of people for this religious event and so many being younger people that will keep this tradition alive in the Philippines for many generations to come.
We was speaking to some locals who told us some stories about what the floats represent and the storys behind them, and then in true filipino hospitality they offerd us to try some fruit that are iloilo specialties.
All in all holy week was a really amazing experience and gives such a good insight into the culture of the philippines.
You are the only foreign travel vloggers who are currently in the PH who covered this kind of procession, by the way this kind of procession does not only happen in Iloilo, this kind of procession happens in the entire PH so i don't know why other travel vloggers concentrate themselves on beaches or coffee shops. good job again guys and im starting to like you channel!!
Some people only travel to grow their bragging rights and some travel to grow their mind and hearts.
Some may not even know about this procession and some don't want to learn. Everyone is different but we believe when you travel you should learn the culture of the country even if you do not practise the religion because knowledge is power and the more you learn the more you grow. Its respectful to learn people's culture. Especially when tney are celebrating such a huge part of their religion. We hope by posting these videos other travellers too will understand why it's important to immerse yourself in the local culture when travelling
Ray Anthony Blanco I love these foreigners 😊😊 next time vlog the Valladolid Negros Occidental holyweek
Ray Anthony Blanco that’s true, I keep watching all travelers in the Philippines and they are the only one cover the Holy Week in The Philippines ❤️
This is what I noticed too, i don't blame them but somewhat I felt a little off when they don't look into our culture. And this vlog is different and I love it. Thank you for respecting and appreciating our culture.
I agree.. that's why vlogs about the Philippines bore me a lot and I find them uninteresting because it's always about beaches most of the time, beaches are just a small part of the country. There's more into it and many vloggers do not even bother to feature those.
Once again, you guys proved that you're really a legit travel Vloggers!!! Hats off to you from VEGAS!!!
Heyyy nfntfx45, i can safely say we are here out of pure love for the country and nothing else, oyr aim is to reach every province and experience as much as we possible can so when the time comes to move to iloilo we know what to expect 😊🇵🇭
@@CoshanUncharted Moving to Iloilo? Welcome! :)
god bless
Really? That is great warm welcome to you guys.
Yes try travelling different provinces they have different cultures, food, beauty and identity.
Great vid and hats off to you both for being respectful of the culture and traditions of Filipinos. Ilonggos are known for their smiles, again people ther.e speak a different language from even the nearby islands.
Sooooooo oo many languages here in the country. We will first learn tagalog, as it is the widest spoken then focus on the other languages after 😍
@@CoshanUnchartedthe Philippines has around 62 major languages, Tagalog is but one of them.
You guys are so simple, authentic and kind.. i really like how you converse with the locals! More power to you both!
Thankyou Marjorie. 💖 The best part of travel is meeting the people of the country its the most real experience you can get.
Yeah conversing with people is so cool. I find it very respectful and kind. Filipinos are naturally kind and humble you can alwats approach and talk to them, but please be extra careful because there are always good and bad in different places so be watchful.
the video of the Easter procession reminded me on my childhood days in the Philippines. watching here from usa
Happy Easter in the USA. Glad it brought back some memories for you, Easter here is such a huge celebration! Today we will visit garin farm and find an Easter egg haha we hope. Glad we can share this video with you.
Thanks for your sacrifice in filming the procession, from the perspective of a foreign vlogger. It's educational.
Your very welcome rolando, really happy to see you enjoyed the vlog on holy week ❤🇵🇭
i like this video, thank you. I've been away from the Phillippines for several years now and this video takes me home, Thank you.
Aw Thankyou for your comment, we are glad to be able to take you home. Welcome 💞 to our adventures. 🇵🇭 Misses you! It's our pleasure to share our adventures with you all
love the simplicity of your travels. no frills. that is the essence of backpacking
Definitely no frills, sometimes definitely not cute, sometimes smelly hahahaha but always an adventure!!
Omg! Thank you so much guys for bringing our tradition to us who are not there. US is also observing Lent but it's not as grand and spiritual as ours. The whole town, city and country standstill to feel the Presence of God in this Holy Week. Most of all you guys in my town. Molo church and that road was my way everyday from my work (IDH) to our house in Villa. Try to visit the public beach Villa beach. There's many restaurants there at the side of the beach.
Happy Easter
Ginoo malooy ka sa amon.
(God have Mercy on us).
O Cristo malooy ka sa amon(Christ Have Mercy on us).
Amazing. So glad that it brought memories for you who couldn't be here to celebrate it. Your amazing for being away from home and we appreciate how hard you work so we are glad to be able to give something back to you guys.
Thankyou for your recommendations!! We will have a look at going there for sure.
Take care and happy easter x
@@CoshanUncharted
Thank you for just appreciating our islands.
Fort San Pedro is the best view of Guimaras. It was called the lover's lane but I think it was neglected lately.
Maybe your free video will open the eyes of tourism there. Thank you again for bringing us closer to home through your lens.
Happy Easter.😊
@@CoshanUncharted and you also know that typical Filipinos work abroad to work hard for their families. That is a sad reality. Our family is as important as our religion.
This holy week has the biggest and most significant cultural and religious events in the Phil. and yours is the only vlog that I come across on UA-cam covering an event. God bless and kudos.
Thankyou so so much Guevara. We're glad to have showcased it, especially for the ofw who are jot home this holy week. They're now able to feel a part of home with them as theyre working away. Glad everyone enjoyed the video. We will upload our Easter Sunday one today.
Wow...Ganda ng prusisyon...Amen
Watching from UK.. Thank you guys for featuring Easter in the Philippines.
Ah wow
Where in the UK are you? Happy Easter from the Philippines to the UK.
It's always our pleasure! Thanks for watching

The black Jesus you are seeing is the black Nazarene of which was brought to the Philippines By the Spanish from Mexico originally the statue was white unfortunately the Ship IT was in caught fire on the coast somewhere in the Philippines but miraculuosly the statue survived all black but Never burned, the original one is in the Quiapo church of which many believes to be miraculous.
thats a incredible story, it makes sense then that they will make a black nazarene to symbolize those times many years ago, thank you for teling us
@@CoshanUncharted yes indeed, if you would search the black nazarene, there is actually festival there in manila that commemorates that said event.. I know because I used to live in that part of manila for 13 years and the black nazarene float would always passby in front of our house
Kevin 080592 ,yes, every January ,participated by almost 5 million people.
That's something for experience in the Phil's really. But be careful and stay safe. There'd be millions of people.
just a correction, black nazarene wasnt caugt on fire . the wood used was actually a dark wood used popularly in acapulco mexico . same wood also used with the Virgin of Antipolo . the wood is known as mesquite wood . also black nazarene is celebrated jan9 (correct me if im mistaken) . lastly, the image of black nazarene in Quiapo, Manila wasnt really the original image brought from Mexico . its actually a replica given to Church of Misica now known as Quiapo Church as a gift .
Thank u for visiting our beautiful country dear hope u enjoy god blessed!!!
We always sass enjoy our time here. 😍 We keep coming back ♥️
Hi guys. This catholic procession is already part of our culture & also it is our faith. This tradition was handed to us by the Spaniards, who colonized the Philippines. Holy week is celebrated throughout the Country. We, Filipinos are proud Catholics & the only Catholic Nation in Asia. I love & admire your videos. I'm from that Place. This procession is celebrated in every towns & cities in the Philippines. The black Image of Jesus is called the Black Nazarene. More power to You Both & your Channel. Good luck & God Bless.
It's amazing how dedicated everyone is to their religion. Old and young. So much love and hope. Lovely to see everyone come together. We have learnt a lot this holy week
Elmer, stop using "we" because you do not represent the rest of us. Go figure and die with your own organized religion. This country is in a shithole because of devout and hypocritical Catholics like you. This country is held back in rights and in economic progress because of the influence of your Church. The fuck.
Chris and Cody you guys are truly one of the good vloggers . I just started to watch you and enjoyed every one of it.
wow. uv been coming in PH since 2017 and this is the frst time i saw ur vlog. nice content. definetely a new sub here. 👍

nice holy week ducumentation here in molo iloilo and the grandest caroza in molo iloilo is there calavario and that certain caroza looks like the carozas from the provinces bulacan, manila, laguna, rizal, and cavite and other more provinces here in philippines that prepares a beautiful and a grandest caroza for the holy week procession.
we are glad you enjoyed it !
we don't mind the late uploads... actually it's nice to know you have tons of footage waiting to be edited from your trips.... black Jesus is called black nazarene.... the original is in quiapo in manila, there's a crazy festival held every January there.
Ah very interesting story about him. We have read about it today.
Thankyou for the mention about our late videos too glad it's no problem. We have a lot of adventures to share with you guys.
Awesome slow mo shots by Cody during the procession. Though as you said you guys are not religious, it doesn't mean you don't have faith. And I know that you guys do. And it shows on how you both Love and respect each other (Cody & Kris), the places you go to (Philippines) and its people. And also their traditions.
Absolutely!! I have a very very strong faith. I think its important to have faith and hope and it doesn't matter how you present that faith aslong as its with love and respect for other people's faith too. Thankyou for this comment it means a lot to me., 😊
Hello, I'm from baluarte molo iloilo city, presently staying here in dasmariñas' cavite, I would like to thank you guys for featuring my hometown molo.....GOD BLESS YOU both"

Thank you for capturing the moment. It reminds me of my younger years when I used to participate on events like this with such devotion. Oh how time flies.
Thank you bernardo, i hope we did a good job because we did not know what was going to happen really so this was a "off the cuff" vlog really. What impressed us was how many young people there was in the procession to carry the tradition on
The church is huge . I never been there yet in Iloilo. Wow !!!
Amazing cinematic footage Kris I Love it. This video brings me back my childhood doing the procession during the holy week with my parents back home. Thank you.Cody and Kris :)

hehehe iloilo is home ❤ we cannot stay away from this city it really does have our heart and we look forward to that day when we live here in iloilo
Nice to hear that you like to stay in Iloilo. Enjoy guys.
Wow! It surprises me on how respectful you guys are towards other people. Normally, bloggers just parade in some places where its supposed to be sacred but, you guys actually didn't! I'm glad you had a wonderful time visiting the Philippines! Keep up the good work!
Oh btw, in this part: 8:50
we actually portrayed Jesus as black because there's this figure of Jesus carrying a cross in Quiapo City in Manila where its said to have been caught in the fire hence the black color, but miraculously, it survived unscathed so people show devotion to the figure now which we call the "Black Nazarene". Replicas of these are commonly found within procession as a way to show devotion to the Black Nazarene. Hope this helped you!
Thank you for appreciating the culture of filipinos.you touch the heart of us.black nazarene has an miracle story.being religious is the way to communicate to GOD.😊
Ph is like our home and wr love everything about this country, we will try our best to represent you all the best we can.
I highly recommend to watch this video or vlog, good friday procession it only shows how religious we are filipinos & strong faith in GOD.
It shows how much passion and faith every one has here and its really beautiful to see. Glad you enjoyed it. Feel free to share it with your friends Dennis 😊
Welcome Back to Iloilo. ☺ ... The Holy Week procession is something I've missed for the first time in my life since we sold our old house and changed address late last year.
Iloilo has our heart big time, we will live here in iloilo 1 day soon im sure of it. You did not really miss it because you watched it thtough us hehe. That is what we are here for 😊🇵🇭
oh, Indeed ... We can say, I still have witnessed the event, "vicariously", through your camera lens, which is Great coz I personally couldn't make it to the venue myself, given my current situation ... and thinking that the previous generations didn't even have this internet privilege of someone sharing travel vlogs for them ... THANKS! ... though, regarding most of the areas of Iloilo, we are still pretty 3rd World ... Ongoing developments are underway, and many cozy-looking real estates are popping up mostly in the "Pavia" town area which is soon to become a city of its own.
its crazy what the internet has given us in opportunities right, it is our honor to do what we do and we will always remain a channel for the people 😊. What is your view on jaro? we have a condo in a sub division there to view on monday 😮 is it a good area for us do you think? we are simple living people like filipinos we are not your typical foreigner
Jaro, as I've known, is one of the districts of iloilo that's got the most historical landmarks, such as ancestral houses, old churches, and most especially one of the most popular 'religious festivals' .. So you got a lot more to explore there compared to other areas of the city ... Subdivisions, for me, are one of the safest places to live in the Philippines coz the tenants living within the village neighborhoods are not really impoverished, and so, there's much less risk of snatching and other minor crimes that usually happens on shanty areas ... I myself are now living in a subdivision and it's quite peaceful here ... When I used to visit our relatives and stay in their house in a different subdivision, it's just as peaceful ... So, yeah, subdivisions are generally fine places to live in for people on a budget.
The highlight traditional event in Jaro is the "Jaro Fiesta" or "The Feast of Our Lady of Candles" ... Observed during the 2nd of February .... Although, funnily, during my childhood, my family only used to go there at the Jaro Plaza Fiesta for the "Carnival Faire" with all its rides and food-market stalls .. LOL !!

Aw that's amazing you notice us. We tried to stay out of th e way so we didn't disturb anyone. We wanted to watch and observe respectfully. Was a really beautiful evening
Nexttime you visit our church try to go inside the church to see the beauty inside of our church. , especially the 12 ladies saints. Just approach one of our staff in the parish convent or the security guard. . The people there is so friendly. They can assist you to go inside the church.

im from Molo, Iloilo City and growing up i used to join this procession. Its a rewarding feeling to walk around the district behind this floats representing the station of the cross. Its way magical especially when its dark, youll see the beauty of the floats and the sea of candles. But lately im not joining the procession coz of work. hope you enjoyed your experience here in Molo!
We sure did andrej, iloilo is like our home province so we are excited to get involved in the culture and intergrate. Although you did not make it to the procession we hope watching from far was a nice experience for you ❤
watching your video brings back memories.. thanks
Cody, our Holy Rosary has 3 components; Joyful Mystery(birth of Jesus/Christmas), Sorrowful Mystery (His crucifixion/Lent)) and Glorious Mystery (His Resurrection/Easter). So, Sunday will be a blast. They'll be FIESTA all over the land. It will start with dawn mass. Drama in the street reminiscing the meeting of the resurrected Jesus with His mother, to end in the church. Thereafter all roads will lead to the beaches, malls, parks, cinemas, etc.
wowww sunday sounds like a special day indeed! do you think there will be busses jeeps and taxis still? we would love to visit garin farm on sunday if we can get there that is
There are four ,not three .You forgot the Luminous Mystery!
The best way to experience a culture is to immerse yourself in it. Love how you took part in the procession. There's not a lot of those in Manila anymore but is still observed in some areas during the holy week.
If you're still here in May, the next countrywide religious festival is Flores de Mayo (flowers of May) and the Santacruzan both of which are held in honor of the Virgin Mary.
Ah okay thanks for the heads up. Where in the Philippines will this be? I don't know where we will be in May but I think mindoro 🤔
Wow, wasn't expecting you to reply to my comment 😍😍😍. Flores de Mayo is observed all throughout the Philippines as well.
I'm Ilonggo! Thanks for showing our religious tradition!
Heyyg su ga, itnwas our pleasure❤ iloilo is also our adopted home town while we are in ph so we hope to represent iloilo well in the future vlogs to come of iloilo
try to shoot some nice city center places ( I mean except churches 🤫 ) , I Think this town will be on my bucket list & maybe Antique if not far away from everything.🐸
Hahaha im sure we can find somthing for you hehe, we actually do visit antique, we spent maybe 1 week there its crazy beautiful and cant wait to make the vlogs already
Iloilo has a lot to offer from food to sceneries- for local food, I recommend you to try Tatoy’s Manokan and Seafood and Netong’s Batchoy. There is calle real in downtown iloilo and it has old buidlings that are preserved. Iloilo also has Megaworld Boulevard and Esplanade:)
Really you already went to antique? I cant wait for this vlog uploaded. I heard from my childhood that this is the home of supernatural, witches and aswang hehehe. Now this is very interesting for me.
I appreciate your vlog covering a religious procession. It is observing Good Friday when Jesus died on the Cross. Ilonggos that was they call people in Iloilo are very religious people. So, they have this.
hey josefina, its very important to see all aspects of the philippines and not to just pick and choose like many of these foreign vloggers do. We learnt a lot yesterday on good friday and that is the best way to learn about a country and we just love iloilo to hehe
@James Pelobello I am just commenting about the video in particular. which I think I am supposed to do. If you like to give more information based on your own research., go ahead and make you own comment. I think everybody will appreciate that.
You guys are amazing vloggers! Where’s your next stop?
In the order of thr vlogs we will be heading to nueva ecija for a spectacular place called minalungao national park 😍 then to baler aurora. After thst we move south to batangas romblon and more so there is plenty of great vlogs to come 😊🇵🇭

hey florida really happy to be able to share with you a new procession from another part of ph, hope you and your family have a great easter ❤
PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME . . .
why is there 2 dislikes in this awesome video ? please give me a reason, enlighten me please . . .
i find this video very fascinating and culturaly incline to Filipino tradition/culture (include the almost zero cars on the road) . what interest me the most is that you guys are the only UA-camrs who actually filmed this event . so i give this video the 600th like . i totally love this .
just a little note thou, whenever someone ask for some coins, i recommend not to give a penny or bill . i would rather suggest giving them atleast a food or drink (although its still on your own discretion) . also, you would say your joking about aeta thing @9.19 . but its a red flag if you asked me . luckily you pulled yourself back positively . other than that, i find you guys so helpful and kind to others . 💜💜💜 for you both . . .
I'll definitely recommend this channel to my other friends because you deserve more than 100k subs .
please continue promoting the Philippines and also the unique spots that hasnt been seen by other vloggers . i wish the best and good luck . . . 💚💙💘
heyy delosh, 1 thing we can garentee and promise you right now is that we will always continue to find the hidden quiet places vloggers do not go to or that are to hard for them to get to. We are making this our "thing" that separates us from other channels.
as for the dislikes i have no idea why anybody would dislike a part of ph tradition unless they are not from filipinos which is possible, either way we are glad to have covered holy week and hope we made you proud
@@CoshanUncharted since im a pinoy blogger and also a part time tour guide, im happy seeing things on a perspective of a foreigner . your the best guys . looking forward for more unique spots . wish you the best .
I'm from Molo, Iloilo City and thank you for visiting our place. 💕
Aw it's always our pleasure ❤️ 😌 we enjoy being in Iloilo 🙏
Our strong faith on the Almighty God made us resilient people, unafraid of the future. Always full of hope. There's same procession scene in the movie Godfather II i think. Mafia people are Catholics too, you know.
this is 1 huge learning curve for us because until yesterday we did not even know what a procession was. We are learning so much being here and being involved in the culture of the philippines.
yes those mafia members are not practicing catholics.theyre catholic in name only ,not in practice and are the judase of the cc ,including those who were involved in horrendous sex abuses .
During Holy Week, most of the people in the community actively participate in the church activities. The dark-skinned life-size statue of the kneeling Jesus in the procession is a replica of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo Church, Manila, and considered by many devotees to be miraculous. The original statue that is in Quiapo Church was carved from dark wood and believed charred by a fire while aboard the spanish ship that brought it from Mexico hence, its dark color.
its very true because iloilo city was a ghost town yesterday all day. It was really facinating to see real filipino culture and the hand made statues and with you guys the viewers explaining to us what each part means. We really do value each and every one of you for your kindness and help with explaining
i really like your videos...more power!

Sensitive music choice when the Santo Entiero was passing...so touching. You would kiss somebody's feet if they'd died for you...

Nice Video!
Thankyou so much! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Hello ma'am and sir pls come to cebu during a holy week any year and head up to danao city, you will surely love the procession here due to its surroundings the procession is just on the seaside so its very unlikely compared to other normal processions which is just in the city so yeah do check out danao cebu :) have fun!
Hey flaming, we do plan on heading to cebu to travel more of the island and to visit the procession there is a very big possibility. I dont think we have truly explored cebu like we would now so we must go
Thats the procession of the Sto. Entierro. We are doing also that in my hometown. Tagaytay. It's like burial of Christ.
SOOOOO many people turned up for this procession it was so busy the whole city, it seems.
Very beautiful floats. Nice experience for us. 💕

Yes we have noticed them to be very busy all weekend. We had a look inside the molo church and it is beautiful and I think people was practicing for a service 😊
Fantastic that you covered this.

Happy Easter to both of you
salamat po happy easter for you and your family also❤🇵🇭
we may have different faith.. but u proved to us that we are all one race... human... (:
🙌🙌 amazing comment, that is the most important thing to and just another reason why we love this country truly
Sinuguelas are one of my favorites! And the roasted island legumes, that's hilarious hahaha....
Also known as peanuts 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 made us laugh so much!!
the Black Nazarene 8:50. Quiapo Church in Manila has the most celebrated one in the country. May want to visit if you ever go back to Manila. The Feast of the Black Nazarene happens i believe January 9, with crazy amount of people trying to touch the Black Nazarene as it says it heals.
not to mention they have to be barefooted if you're going with the procession.
oooo ok so the biggest procession is in manila? that would be really really cool to see that perhaps next year we will try. We did feel like we did not want to go into the church for the service because we are not so religious and did not want to intrude on peoples faith with us and a camera but perhaps 1 day when or if we feel like we can we just may go in for the church mass before the procession
It's ok I'm still waiting for your video whatever it takes just take both of you watching from Italy
Amazing. Welcome to the channel. 💕 Thankyou for the support and patience 😊

hope you enjoyed the procession😊
The image of the black nazarene was a devotion among Filipino. The wood used to carve the image was naturally black. It had nothing to do with color or origin

The Molo Cathedral is the most unique Church in the Philippines . The only church in the country with all female saints inside. Molo Cathedral honor Girl Power! ;-)
BEAUTIFUL CHURCH !
Hope you can come inside Molo Church. It's called the feminist church of the Philippines as it has statues of several female saints on its interior pillars. Enjoy my beautiful province!
