As an observer from Luzon, I think many Visayans forget that Iloilo used to be part of the Archdiocese of Cebú which also used to govern the islands of Palau and Carolines in the Pacific. The veneration to the image of the Holy Child Jesus or Santo Niño, who's central in Dinagyang, was introduced to Jaro from Cebú, the land of Rajah Humabon and his wife who received the very image from Magellan. Why am I posting this? I am posting this comment because honestly I am annoyed on how people fight on a "title" that already expired ever since we had our freedom from colonial rule. Iloilo is definitely a very charming city. For me it is like the Lisbon of the Philippines. One can promote his city without being COCKY and egotistical, Pinoy habits that actually turn off potential tourists. Just let the beauty of the city promote itself.
Find out about Los Pintados. Those are our real ancestors Spanish time. Karay a dialect similar to Tonga island/country, similar face too. So many history that needs to be discovered. Those concrete buildings are already American era. Go to Jaro, Iloilo many mansions are from Spanish Era.
From Cavite 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Uly V Ah, ok po. Other Visayans, such as the Cebuanos and Warays, are accusing Ilonggos of being traitors against our country, and being loyal to the Spaniards. That’s not true. Ilonggos also fought the colonizers during the Philippine Revolution.
@@dasigkatama029 I would have to disagree with you. They are the oldest Visayans, but no one is original, not even the Ilocanos and the Tagalogs in Luzon. Because we, lowland tribes had descended from a line of Austronesian ancestors. The only original inhabitants of the Philippines are the dark-skinned Aetas/Agtas/Atis.

Legality, Iloilo still is the Queen City of the South by decree...And Actually it is the Queen Noble City of the South as it is formally called and favorite city of the Queen of Spain, Maria Cristina .. On a different note, Hiligaynon, the local dialect, has actually a lot of Spanish words.

Queen City (Ciudad Reina) and Queen's City (Ciudad de la Reina) are different. Talking about wealth, Iloilo does not only rival Cebu during the past but also Tayabas, Vigan, Pila, Nueva Cáceres and others. I am not from the Visayas, definitely not Cebuano. Iloilo is undeniably a charming city with colorful history and culture that's why I don't understand the reason behind the insecurity and identity crisis of some of its residents. Let us be objective and friendly at the same time.
You nailed it bro. Indeed, Queen's City is different from Queen City. Queen's City may be Iloilo being loyal to the Queen of Spain in the past but at present, the Queen City of the South is definitely and undoubtedly Cebu, the latter being next to Manila in terms of economy, infra and whatnot. They better stop all these nonsense argument and just be proud that both Iloilo and Cebu are progressive and both are neighbors outside of Manila.

@@vickai_the_loner but the fact that the queen herself, personally coronated Iloilo with such title, speaks something. and it's a fact made known long time ago as you said.
History has it that Iloilo was granted the title the Queen’s City of the South NOT the Queen City of the South for her loyalty to the Queen of Spain during the time of the Spanish resistance. From then on, the Ilonggos took it to mean that Iloilo was really the Queen City of the South as she was the most economically progressive region outside the National Capital until the decline of the sugar industry after the post war era. The title was immediately “transferred” to Cebu as it was no longer inappropriate for Iloilo to assume the title because of her ailing economy.

Iloilo is still a Queen City in its own way! It has a unique character. One day when it comes to economic activity Iloilo will reclaim the title.
There's nothing to reclaim since Iloilo was awarded the title. Historically and legally, it still holds up. Meanwhile for Cebu, it was the media that gave such title. Nonetheless, both cities are beautiful and unique in their own way.
Iloilo is still the queen city of the south, nothing changed!
There's no Second Queen City of the South. Only Iloilo

Really love the slow pace of life here, all smiles and lovely people.
Tagalog Tales of Terror agree. our city is a small and progressive city, but not too small to be boring.. 😁

Other Visayans, such as the Cebuanos and Warays, are accusing Ilonggos of being traitors against our country, and being loyal to the Spaniards.
That’s not true. Ilonggos also fought the colonizers during the Philippine Revolution.
@@GaryHField Ilonggos are the original Visayan anyway
@@dasigkatama029 I would have to disagree with you. They are the oldest Visayans, but no one is original, not even the Ilocanos and the Tagalogs in Luzon. Queen City (Ciudad Reina) and Queen's City (Ciudad de la Reina) are different.

Iloilo is just the Queen's city of the south...LONG TIME AGO...LOL
