As a 40 yr old, im happy to have memories of all these games. We played more together (physically) than we do today. 007 and mariokart 64 were the best of the N64
I agree. I miss playing with friends 4 player splitscreen games. And while switch does have 4 player games, now that i have kids, i would love more 4 player games on xbox and ps5.
turok’s multiplayer focused spin off Rage Wars was a really good shooter on the N64 as well, it didn’t age as well as the main series graphically for obvious reasons but it was one of my very first multiplayer experiences and one I still find myself coming back to time and time again
I'm 42. Played the original Sega and Nintendo systems as a little kid. The super Nintendo, Sega Megadrive, then the PS1, followed by the N64.. All the way through til now (PS5) To have been there for all these systems and iconic games is special. The PS1 days, playing Resident Evil 1,2,3. Silent Hill. Tekken. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Goldeneye. Perfect Dark. Turok. Mario 64. Mario Kart. You name it. The PS2 days were my personal favourite. So damn good.
Turok 2 in retrospect was easily the best FPS on the N64. It was such a mind blowing experience for me and was the game that got me into FPS games(which are my stable genre in gaming). To me, Turok 2 was to the N64/PS1/Saturn era of FPS games that Resident Evil 4 was to action shooters in the years after it’s release.
N64! I'm old! Bring back that sweet sweet N64 nostalgia. They say they are working on an official sequel to Perfect Dark. In an alternate universe, and my imagination, exists a open world, Perfect Dark 64 DLCequel . They can do that too.
the some is here, i like it better because most guns had a secondary mode making strategy even more complex, until someone got the gun that shot through walls and would auto find targets, but i did have tons of fun playing both, but overall perfect dark is a better game, but goldeneye is more well known edit: i was thinking about time splitters after commenting this, went and looked it up, i guess it's kinda a sequel to 007 and PD, alot of the same team worked on all 3 games, it makes sense they have a style and stuck to it and made 3 great games
Actually, to be very honest, I truly don't understand how anyone could say that Goldeneye is a better game than Perfect Dark. Sure, GE had the biggest cultural impact and was way more revolutionary for the time than PD was by the time that came out. And I understand, nostalgia is strong with GE. I also have numerous great memories of it. But come on, PD is a objectively better game than Goldeneye. It's not even a matter of opinion. PD improved upon litteraly every aspect of GE. How could that even be denied? People that place GE above PD are just too clouded by nostalgia. And that's OK. But then just say that you would place GE above PD because of nostalgia and/or the impact. But to say GE is actually a better game than PD is just not credible imo.
@@Teknakill OOT, MM, Goldeneye, PD, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, StarFox, Exitebike, Turok 1and 2, Quake 1 and 2, Wwf No Mercy, Wwf Wrestlemania 2000, MK4, Bad fur Day, Banjo Tooie and Kazooie, Pilot Wings, Bio-Freaks, God Wars, Pokémon Stadium, Pokémon Snap, Destruction Derby, Armored, Spiderman, Super Mario, Blast Corps, Cruisn USA and World, Diddy Kong Racing, Earthworm Jim, F-Zero X, Forsaken, Harvest Moon, Hexen, Kirby 64, Mario Party(1-2-3), Mario Tennis, Mega Man, Mickeys Speedway USA, Paper Mario, Rampage, Rayman 2, Ready 2 rumble 2, Sin and Punishment, SW Racer, SW Shadows Empire, Wave Race, Wipeout, Yoshis Story. Iam forgetting alot more, especially the car racing ones.
If you ever liked Doom 64 on the original N64, (or wanted to like it, but thought the screen was way too dark), pick up the remastered version that came out in 2020 for multiple platforms. It has higher resolution, more display and control options, and includes a bonus 6-level mini-campaign in addition to the original 32 maps.
I remember playing Goldeneye as a kid. It was a lot of fun. I also remember when our family's copy started to go bad because I would be playing it and something would happen causing the game to freeze or crash and as a kid that not sometimes scared me, but mostly shocked me. So much that I would slowly move toward our N64 and turn it off. It's a shame that we haven't gotten an official remaster of Goldeneye on modern consoles.
There is a remake of it though, on the Wii. I've never played it, but it always looked like a great game to me. The review scores for it were also pretty good, if I'm not mistaken.
Neil: it’s is a complete overhaul remake with Daniel Craig as 007. It was a fun game, but it in no way had the impact the original had. We all want a remaster - with all the multiplayer mayhem - not a remake….
A previous Nintendo Direct mention it was coming to Nintendo Switch Online with online play, it also coming to Xbox game pass but seem like that version won't have online play?, instead it'll be getting 4k resolution, consistent refresh rate, achievements and updated controls
I wish I'd gotten to play GoldenEye MP in its day; I think I only played for less than an hour total. But since Perfect Dark has bots (with custom appearances, difficulty levels, and behavior), I've been able to play its MP for hundreds if not thousands of hours over the years. I might've also played PD first but can't remember. It could be for these reasons - in addition to vastly improved gameplay and AI and the addition of voice acting and many other features - that I consider PD to be overall superior to GE, although GE had a much bigger impact and paved the way for PD. I look forward to finally playing GE online when it launches on the Switch. Now, if only Nintendo will have a N64 controller restock that won't sell out within minutes or seconds to scalpers and bots. I wish both games would have modern remakes. Not full re-imaginings where they fundamentally change missions and game design but rather the same missions and features but with modern controls, online play, new features, and maybe added content (but no monetization). The Wii GE remake had great ideas but removed things that made the original great (objectives, no weapon carry limit, cheats, etc.), botched the weapon system, and didn't have the best controls including in the very stiff Reloaded port. The XBLA version of PD thankfully carried classic weapons into MP and had an improved framerate but also made various negative changes, such as adding an echo effect, making the deadzone too big to accurately line up shots when aiming, making explosions look weak, messing up the menus, causing MP options to reset when choosing a different category, requiring players to sign in a second time for MP, having too much unlocked from the start thus decreasing the stream of unlocks and spoiling the plot for those who read it before playing, somehow still not managing a stable framerate, making speed strafing require too precise of an angle, etc. IMO, remasters and remakes should give players the option to toggle each change individually, such as new or original graphics, sounds, voices, music, etc.
well now I hope we not only get a Quake II remaster but that like the 1st Quake's remaster they include the N64 version as a bonus option. I never knew the levels & music were different!
@@Teknakill you know that your comment was entirely unnecessary, right? No effing crap the old versions can still be played...doesn't take away form the fact the modern ports with quality of life enhancements are a good thing in addition to them being more accessible than the old versions

I loved Goldeneye, BUT Perfect Dark did everything Goldeneye did and improved it! The only thing that was better in Goldeneye was the small black proxy mines!! You could hide those things anywhere! Perfect Dark they like quadrupled in size and we’re teal! Much more difficult to hide them! But was fun to set up suitcase gun and hide in a dead end corridor waiting for your opponents to wander down wondering what horrible mistake they made!!
PlayStation was for metal gear solid and twisted metal. The Nintendo 64 was for turok and GoldenEye 64. I enjoyed the console exclusives, but over time I enjoyed 3rd party games the most. Haha
i think i like the n64 duke nukem over any console or pc, the colors look better it just looks better in general (to me) even though when viewing objects up close has that n64 blur... doom64 was slept on and is dope af.. 007 is legendary.. quake 1-2 is obviously fire games .. and turok was really good and better than the sequels (in my opinion) those are my favorites i need to find a way to play them all

Quake 2 & doom 64 were the best shooters IMO and so many other great games

Goldeneye 007 is so iconic
Words can't explain it!
Its over rated garbage
💯💯
Best FPS for N64 Perfect Dark hands down
By far
I remember when I was 7 my dad let me rent Turok from Blockbuster and made me change the blood color in the menu from red to green 😂

GoldenEye 007
Perfect Dark
The World is Not Enough 007
Turok Dinosaur Hunter
Duke Nukem 64
I’m from 1980 I’ve been blessed to see all in gaming from then to now great times during this generation/era with Saturn PS1 and N64
This list is long overdue, we can only hope they'll port more of these games to the Switch.

Perfect Dark is the Best and a MasterPiece
Goldeneye 007 is simply the best N64 FPS ever!
Or, even, the, GOAT!
Turok so low on the list is criminal
switch Perfect Dark with Golden Eye
