I started using Friends and Foes while hosting a comic book themed burlesque show about 15 years ago and I’m so happy others have picked up on it! It’s become one of my signature phrases to this day!

Hey, thats great. A friend of mine uses "Colleagues & Competition" when he's addressing a room full of peers.

Brilliant. Ladies and gentlemen has become a verbal tic for me. Once again you’ve given me the ladder to climb out of my verbal hole. Great video - great channel.

Excellent point, Timothy! And thank you for NOT suggesting the word "guys"! We think it is a generic term to address the audience, but it is not. :-)

Thanks. Yes, 'guys" seems to miss the point really

It's a funny one that.. I'm not sure if I would ever use it , perhaps "tongue in cheek" : )

There are enough gigs out there that pandering to extremism is hardly necessary. Bowing to the non-binary agenda is no different than bowing to some Nazi gathering. I'm not prepared to Roman salute a crowd, nor will I insert gender neutral nonsense.

Triggering "Godwin's Law" in the first comment must be some kind of record. : )

@@Expertmc such analogies are often required to orient towards the programmed psyche of our culture in the West. People are such blind-believers, likening them to the extreme caricatures they're programmed to view as an abomination is the best way to reach them. If I bring up analogies that are too obscure or lacking innate bias, it will have no motivational force.
Of course, I'm not falsely accusing anyone of being an actual Nazi or fascists, which is very common among the "non-binary" extremist crowd, so at least I'm being honest. By pandering to such extremists, you should've expected a similar response as mine. Perhaps, like a troll, you were hoping for it. I'd give you the benefit of the doubt, if you made it clear in an opening statement as to how to monetize extremism as an MC, but you gave it the "this is the new normal" approach.

@@Expertmc a friend of mine does a "boys versus girls" contest (with adults), and will include the caveat, "even if you identify as a", which humorously acknowledges this aspect of modern culture without pandering. There's no need to alter the fundamentals of one's unique methods of interacting with a crowd, and the best audiences will respond to the genuine aspect of your presentation. "Ladies and Gentlemen" is a classic that people strongly appreciate, and I'll continue to use it in my career.

It's really not hard to be inclusive at all. Please welcome them to the stage. Easy!

@@DannyMoreComedy by using extremist language, you are not being "inclusive" at all. Pretending that everything is the same inevitably excludes recognition that everything is different. Ignoring our most obvious differences ignores the very human quality of wanting to be recognized. If everything is the same, nothing matters at all. "Please welcome to the stage this (everything and nothing)!" has an incredibly meaningless ring to it. And that meaninglessness is distressful and very non-inclusive to anyone living in reality.
