lol Love the trigger. On At 2,200 rds shot and have yet to have a ftf of any kind. While the claims of being the best of everything is overrated a little I shot this gun better than any other semiauto striker. Your review and experience would be in the very tiny minority as my experience and those of others including the top viewed youtube reviewers can do nothing but praise the strike one. My new favorite semi.
I just got my Salient Arms Strike One Tier One and oh my god I love it, I am even thinking about selling one of my Custom 1911's to buy another. You have to try one, wow.
Titanium slide barrel and rod/spring assembly to mitigate the recoil and a glock style compensator built in the barrel/slide ( two holes in on the upper section of the barrel)
Yeah, the feed problem is frustrating. We pinned it down to the shape of the bullet. Conical bullets wouldn't feed, but rounded bullets were fine. It's not the shape of the casings or anything else, it's the side of the bullet itself.
Watch the placement of your support hand! Make sure the thumb is not slowing down the slide. DPM recoil spring is a good addition as well! Love my strike one! One of most accurate polymers I own, as a Styer was a jamomatic! So I guess its the luck of the draw!
The newest model, coming 3rd quarter of 2016 will be made in the USA by Prime Manufacturing Group. They fixed the trigger and other quirks including the sights which will now be set in normal dovetails
+LifeSizePotato Salient Arms has their hand in the new one. Many of the internals cant be swapped with the new one and it can take glock sights front and rear. Military Arms Channel Just put up a video on Salient Arms and he shows the new one in prototype form.
After purchasing a Archon Strike B the firing pin catch chipped off in under 1.5K rounds. After battling with customer service they finally sent me a new firing pin the quality seemed like the same cheap casting if not worse.
Mine came with a terrible finish, and before the 200 round mark, the mag would disengage with just about every round. Got in contact with Daren at Firearms International, and he took the gun in and fixed my issues with little to no questions asked. Got it back, and while my qualms were addressed, it just about always has light strikes on Wolf Military Classic... no probs with brass stuff, but I really haven't shot much brass through it since I got it back. I'm with you on the "eh" review.
Thank you for your review, is love to have seen a malfunction on video though, if they are so frequent as you made it sound in the video this should have been no problem ;)
Mine has just over 1000 rounds and has had 3 malfunctions that I can remember but it was in the 500 round break in. It is the newest of the original Strike Ones and seems much more refined than the first runs. Has a consistent trigger and no light strikes as some people do complain of. It shoots ver fas and I would say has a touch less jump than a sig228 M11A1. I shoot alot of duty grade guns like the Strike level so I'm really not fussy about triggers.
It looks interesting but no gun which has that failure rate is acceptable. My Browning Hi Power has more thousands of rounds through than I can count and the few failures were due to operator error.
+Dan Troop It might just be that LifeSizePotato got a lemon. TheYankeeMarshal says in his Arsenal Strike One Performance Review that he fired it a bunch and that it's completely reliable (even with a bunch of various generic ammo).
MrRandysh The disparity of performance between the pistols reviewed by the two men illustrates the necessity of doing a thorough test and put enough rounds through a new gun to be sure the one you got is reliable. This difference could also indicate poor quality control or just the one in a million that goes bad regardless of all efforts made.
What do you think about the changes that Salient Arms is making in their new American production versions of the Strike One? From what I've seen it looks like they are going to be addressing a lot of the problems you point out with this earlier generation version, especially the trigger.
I have had 3 failures to extract over 2.000 rounds as the only type of malfunction. However, I find the trigger on mine is better than a Glock, even a Glock with an expensive aftermarket trigger, having compared them side by side. I find it more pleasant to shoot and more accurate than a Glock, however, the Strike One (I have the Speed version) is not as reliable.
I would love to hear your opinion on the Steyr. Actually started looking for an L1-A1 about two weeks back but they seem to be out o stock everywhere. You've already influenced my purchasing a Rhino, Benelli B76 and Pardini GT45 so keep the vids coming...
If your fingers or hand contact the slide, your shooting your gun wrong, as it can indeed lead to failures. In Mr. Potato's case the thumb that appears to be on the slide is probably resting on his hand.
good review, I wasn't all excited when it came out. Its not like they did anything that hasn't been done before. I heard that they won't be available in the US anymore is that true?
it's rated for +P+ 9mm ammo. try running the hottest 9mm you can find. BTW salient arms does the stryke A and B models and they have far more features than the original strike one.
agreed. I don't have that one, bought the speed on release and all I found was that the spring was a bit stiff so limp wristing causes ejection failures but using hot ammo and not range ammo loosened mine up within about 100rounds. Much easier to limp wrist than my glock...so when noobs use it be sure its going to fail :P (before spring was loosened up) Your trigger looks horrendous though :O that model is like buying a reference model graphics card
+funcounting It's the trigger guard and dimpled slide "serrations" that kill it for me. Also the big cheesy Korth logo on the other side. I just feel like it's kind of tacky and missing the subdued sophistication I'd expect from the old Korth.
I enjoy your videos quite a bit. You have extremely good taste in firearms and your collection is amazing. Do you have any interesting long guns? It seems that you only do handgun videos. Keep up the good work!
+LifeSizePotato Thanks for the response. My collection is dominated by handguns as well. My firearm interests seem to parallel yours so I'm excited to see what you have coming up.
+LifeSizePotato I have a Speed with the trigger job and the DPM spring upgrades. The trigger is pretty nice and I like the pistol a lot, but to be honest I haven't shot a ton of other guns so I don't have a lot to compare it to. Its a hell of an upgrade from my 9x18 pistols though. I've shot about 1,000 rounds through it and had only one failure to eject in the breakdown period. But... and this is where it gets messy... It does not like hollow points and pretty much refuses to feed them reliably. It jams easily with anything with a flat nose. They usually snag on the transition from the frame feed ramp to the one on the barrel. Lead round nose runs better, but the soft lead can get caught on the sharp edge of the barrel feed ramp too. So its pretty finicky with things other than FMJ. For me, its eaten any FMJ ammo I've but through it. The ammo issues isn't a big deal for me as I'm planning to use it for IDPA and the range.
+Sean Maroney Good input, thanks for the comment. I honestly never even thought of running hollowpoints since it's purely a range toy for me. Now I'm morbidly curious how they'll do in mine...
The indoor range I go to doesn't allow FMJ, so a friend picked up some JHP to shoot for our visit. The first shot was the one that jammed consistently all the time, but with some messing around you could get it to feed. Then you would fire a couple of shots and it would jam up again. We were using Aguila JHP. The LRN is more reliable, but the one jam I had with it was probably the worst. The barrel feed ramp actually "bit" into the soft lead of the bullet. It took a bit to get it to open up and cycle, but at that one round it was fine. If you decide to give into your curiosity and find a JHP that works consistently, by all means, let me know.
I purchased this firearm 3 months ago. I go to the range once maybe twice a week, and since my firearm is new I make sure to bring it with me. I've put 520 rounds through it and I've had this same problem twice. But I think me and you have isolated problems and maybe just a lemon.
Great review, would you ever consider making videos for Full30? I feel like you'd be a wonderful addition to the content over there, you're about the only channel I watch on UA-cam anymore, haha!
+LifeSizePotato If I am not mistaken you could get a Strike One Speed with an Ergal frame but the price was absurd! I did have a thought about one till sticker shock happened. And now I hear the original S1 is no longer imported and the design has been revamped and rebranded, plus a compact (G19 size) model by this new partnership with Salient/Arsenal and Prime ammo. News via Military Arms Channel. The new Stryk's look cool but based on all the customer reports that have been in long circulation regarding Salient, no thanks. I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire because that's how their customer base is being treated. Plus there's no shortage of problems with Salient's guns. Keep doing what you do man, love your vids and when I want to see unique and high quality guns & videos, I know where to watch!
I myself was this close to buying one mainly because of the the so called revolutionary bore axis. Then I shot on at the range and bought a Sphinx AT2000s.
Thanks to an earlier video you'd made on them. I found a two tone, black slide on stainless with wood grips. Kinda ugly and beautiful at the same time but definitely worth 1200$.
I hated having to rack the slide on a striker fired pistol if a round didn't go off. That's why I sold my Glocks and use nothing but Walther P99's for my striker fired home defense or carry pistols. The P99's Double/Single action and second strike is second to none for polymer pistols.
first negative review I've seen, I'd say you got a lemon and should of reached out to them a long time ago to get you straightened out vs just living with it and not being happy.
Today I have a close look at a used Strike One (9mm, black frame), and I was surprised that the locking block can't easily be removed from the slide. The salesman told me this is very typical for any AF Strike One after a few 1000 rounds. The locking block easily moves up and down inside the slide, it locks /unlocks the barrel, but it takes pliers to take the locking block out of the slide if you need to field strip, aka separate barrel from the slide. Did you notice any burring at locking block-slide touching surfaces ? thank you
Whenever an innovative new gun like this comes out reliability alway seems to be an issue wait for the 2nd gen of this gun or any new tech for that matter so they can work out the kinks
Made 3,000 shots with mine. Recoil spring changed, aftermarket trigger acquired. One nasty jam at 300ish, now all broken in. Very inexacting when it comes to ammo choice. A perfect flat shooter. Oil it, hone it, and it will reciprocate you.
FINALY. . Someone with a little love for the Steyr! I have two, L & M, and think they are fantastic shooters. Mine are fortunate enough not to have any of the "struggles" of the earlier productions as they are relatively new. Cost $475 or so each too.
Got mine for $2300 at Rain 6, Some of you will say it is too much money but I don't care it is worth it when compared to Taran Tactical, Zev Customs and Agency Arms guns.
You may or may not now that theyve signed over right to make this gun to antother company and they are calling it the Stryk Pistol and looks that it will be entirely custom
+William walton I didn't know that before tonight, but someone else mentioned it in the comments. Sounds cool and I will hope for the best with the next generation of the gun.
I totally agree. I got to shot one of these. It was fine. If it was between $300 and $600, I would say it is a great handgun. For the price they are asking though, hell no. For the price, the quality is just not there. Like you said, trigger is not great. The laser engraving of the one I handled was a bit messy. Minor flashing on the plastic, a problem I would ignore if it was less expensive, but at a premium price, I expect a premium product. If I wanted an all around okay gun, I would get a TP9...actually I did get a TP9, ha. Better gun and 1/3 or less the price.
Looking at your video I can already see that your thumbs are the problem and their causings most of your stoppages. When shooting your slowing down the course of the slide with your thumbs since placing them way too high. In fact your grip is always varying in the different sections of your video and your never placing your thumbs in the same spot which is probably playing à big role in the erratic behavior of the pistol.
My thoughts exactly!! I would like to see what Salient does with it, not they are going to be building it here and they will be offering a mid-size version as well for CCW.
I Love My PPQ-M2 !!! Especially for its Cost !!! Cheaper than a VP-9 by quite a bit !! I've recently heard, the Striker One is Discontinued and will be replaced by the Stryker One, a redesigned and improved gun ?? Bullshit ?? Marketing ???
It was hard for me to understand all the hoopla that accompanied the Strike One. To me, it appeared to be just another striker fired, polymer framed pistol. Available in 9mm and .40S&W, it would meed to be offered in .45 ACP, before it would interest me much. With the occasional unreliability you mentioned in your review, I think I'll pass.
Arsenal has supposedly tried fabricobbling these guns in Germany and Italy, to get around the whole Russian gun embargo thing. I'd like to see tooling brought to America, and for starters: The striker springs suck. The feed ramp geometry sucks (hence malfunctions). The extractor is poorly formed, hence malfunctions, and the trigger is just pretty darned awful. I can't believe Salient is selling a $3000 Gucci Strike One. I have less use for that shite than I do a Gucci Glock.
I have loved these videos for years. But the idea that potato will make a comparison to a much much more expensive gun and say “it’s not much better” but also will not have to audacity to compere it to a Glock or something else that everyone has. Would be nice to look back on these videos and we him hate a handgun but also make a comparisons to one which actually compares to it, not just a completely obscure 8k HK piece of unobtanium. Sad to say potato is the boomer of the modern era. “The stupid 9mm Glock 17 does not compare to my sig p210”
Low bore matters but the Glock has a low bore so not much difference, however the PPQ has a high bore access and recoil is a lot more than a Glock! My point just stay with a Glock still the best since 1982!
Very nice review! Saliant Arms and Arsenal have a collaboration going on with improvements to this gun. Maybe you are interested in doing a comparison video between those too. ua-cam.com/video/iSKSpGDLAAg/v-deo.html Good video as always!
lol Love the trigger. On At 2,200 rds shot and have yet to have a ftf of any kind. Apparently theres a compact version of this gun coming out that will have some new design features. I'll be much more interested in that one.
+PrintWizard89 Yeah, and the full size one is getting new internals as well. Stryk A and B
Great video. I am waiting to see if the new manufacturer will fix the issues. MAC has a video tour of the new US maker.
***** Possibly better than the Remington R51. I'm hopelessly optimistic.
Some people just equate expensive with quality. I think that's what kimber is going for with their sp101 clone. Great to see another vid out!
I just got my Salient Arms Strike One Tier One and oh my god I love it, I am even thinking about selling one of my Custom 1911's to buy another. You have to try one, wow.
That carbine setup image... The C-more sight assembly was entirely backwards lol.
***** How does an AR15 rear sight assembly being installed backwards look cool? It looks like something the chinese would do.
+Tombs Clawtooth What is humor for $500, Alex.
+Tucker Dale That isn't the exact gun from the movie. It's just a representative picture of the carbine kit that I found online.
+Tombs Clawtooth i dont think it even has a front sight.
In _Spectre_, the pistol carbine that Bond uses is a Glock 17 in a FAB Defense KPOS, not a Strike One.
Optic64654
I'm looking at it. Did you confuse it with one?
Titanium slide barrel and rod/spring assembly to mitigate the recoil and a glock style compensator built in the barrel/slide ( two holes in on the upper section of the barrel)
Glad you're back!
Yeah, the feed problem is frustrating. We pinned it down to the shape of the bullet. Conical bullets wouldn't feed, but rounded bullets were fine. It's not the shape of the casings or anything else, it's the side of the bullet itself.
Failures could be due to the extremely fast action of the cycle, I imagine any ammo inconsistencies would mess it up a bit.
the extractor looks very small
Every gun should cycle every time with every ammo. Many guns do. Anything short of that is a problem.
Watch the placement of your support hand! Make sure the thumb is not slowing down the slide. DPM recoil spring is a good addition as well! Love my strike one! One of most accurate polymers I own, as a Styer was a jamomatic! So I guess its the luck of the draw!

Great gun! If you are having issues, they’ll make them right! Great company!
Do you have a korth pistol ( 1911 style) saw it at shot show. Ordered one but won't be receiving it for 3 or 4 months. Wondered if you have shot one
Thank you for your review, is love to have seen a malfunction on video though, if they are so frequent as you made it sound in the video this should have been no problem ;)
Ikr all those complaints yet every clip shows it running flawlessly lol
Needs an aftermarket trigger, then she'd be sweet.

+Dan Troop The Hi Power is great. It is a classic for a reason, it works.
+Dan Troop It might just be that LifeSizePotato got a lemon. TheYankeeMarshal says in his Arsenal Strike One Performance Review that he fired it a bunch and that it's completely reliable (even with a bunch of various generic ammo).

The disparity of performance between the pistols reviewed by the two men illustrates the necessity of doing a thorough test and put enough rounds through a new gun to be sure the one you got is reliable. Great video. I'd like to hear your opinions on Grand Power pistols.
Have you tried to .... emm ... strip and clean it ? Mine works like clockwork with proper oiling and ... aftermarket stuff.
I have had 3 failures to extract over 2.000 rounds as the only type of malfunction. My thoughts exactly. I had the same experienced. I may send it back.
Just like I figured, a whole lot of hype for a less than mediocre handgun. Thanks for the update and getting good data out on this.
Do you think your style of holding the firearm, with your thumbs resting on the slide, may be contributing to failure to eject or failure to feeds?
If your fingers or hand contact the slide, your shooting your gun wrong, as it can indeed lead to failures. In Mr. Potato's case the thumb that appears to be on the slide is probably resting on his hand.
@lifeSizePotato can you please help me, what do you think is better gun? STrike one or Canik Tp9sfx? Thank you
good review, I wasn't all excited when it came out. Its not like they did anything that hasn't been done before. I heard that they won't be available in the US anymore is that true?
Do you think the version being made/modified by Salient is similar to the competition version?
He's back!
Surprised you haven't had more issues with way you position your thumbs
When are you getting a carbine version of the Mateba Unica?
Can you still buy these? They were all the shit a couple years ago but I couldn't afford one, now I'm ready but they stopped making them didn't they?

Got mine for $2300 at Rain 6, Some of you will say it is too much money but I don't care it is worth it when compared to Taran Tactical, Zev Customs and Agency Arms guns.
Got mine today for $726 on gunbroker
I'm over 2500 rounds with this exact pistol. Not even once FTE or FTF. trigger does suck. Super accurate.
It'll make you nips hard. Google shotshow, Stryk Pistol.
polished changer does the trick
Complains about all types of issues. Shows clip after clip of it performing flawlessly. 🤔
That’s awesome
My thoughts exactly!! I would like to see what Salient does with it, not they are going to be building it here and they will be offering a mid-size version as well for CCW.
This review is so depressing! I've never had an issue with mine!
True. Mine also has not had any problems. Just a few FTEs but only with Fiocchi Ammo.
From what I can tell, your thumbs might be riding the slide.
Might?!?! They're all over the slide
So what you're saying is it performs the way it looks 😂
Man I want one!!! Just too poor 😣
Well you could keep it in the camping trailer or the boat ! You got some Kool videos or more like kool pistols ..
Low bore matters but the Glock has a low bore so not much difference, however the PPQ has a high bore access and recoil is a lot more than a Glock! My point just stay with a Glock still the best since 1982!
a $1000 paperweight.
+phitausundown not according to TheYankeeMarshal's performance review. LifeSizePotato may just have gotten a lemon.

+MrRandysh Others have told me they've had my experience with their Strike Ones. Might just be that quality control is hit or miss.
*****
Yeah, that makes sense. Darn, if it wasn't for that I'd probably buy one, lol.
I would of just walk away from the pistol if I didn't like the trigger before I dumped that amount of ammo up the pipe!!!
+FAT LOLO I bought it online when they were brand new so I didn't know what it would be like. I was hoping I'd grow to accept it but it's been hard.
i'll keep my glock. is there a gun that made you say: this is an outright piece of shit ? and what was it?
ZiP 22lr and the Heizer come to mind.
i've seen the .22 zip and would love to see another review of that wonder gun. thanks for the response !
2160p?? tf? lol XD
That's UHD 4k. The frame is twice the resolution of 1080p. Thus, 2160p.

Very nice review! Saliant Arms and Arsenal have a collaboration going on with improvements to this gun. Maybe you are interested in doing a comparison video between those too.

Good video as always!
