My first fiesta experience during our class vacation. My classmate invited us to take part of their fiesta. There are bands marching, parades and street dancing of some sort of ethnic costumes and of course mass. And the main event was the eating time. I believed that it was a two day celebration from breakfast to dinner where alcohol and singing are present. And what amazed me is that, we can go from one house to another just to celebrate and eat 😄 very memorable as I'm too shy to participate but people are just too hospitable so won't feel guilty 🤣
It is expected that if you are invited and offered to have some food as you pass by a house during fiesta, you are suppose to NOT turn down the invite 😊❤
That's the one side of filipino culture mostly in the province side, that never yet discovered by the foriegner nor even filipinos that grows up in the city.. All the town folks have their own parochial Saints that they celebrate every once a year. And it is already a tradition to prepare for foods for faraway relatives and friend who would like to join the celebration.
Everyone should go the Philippines at least once in their lives, best country and people in the world. Going back to visit for 3 weeks in September, Baguio, Subic, and who knows where else, where ever I find love the entire country =D
Men!!!! People there were so friendly and treat you like a celebrity!!! Immagine? They even invite you to eat in their home??? That was a huge food and seems so yummy!!!!! You guys got already some friends over there!!! Its really different here in usa or in europe!
That was a house blessing of a relatively well-to-do family done during a fiesta. Full fiesta experience in the province would have include : procession, sports fest, beauty contest ... and then you can visit house to house and you will be mostly welcome to their fiesta celebration. imho.
This is indeed a tradition in the Philippines during a fiesta, but only in some parts, not everywhere, so it makes me wonder just exactly where this is?
I'm from CALINOG 15minutes away from Janiuay..and that day its our festival hirunugyaw suguidanonay festival..ang we wo. In dinagyang Kasadyahan 2023. Tribe JALAUD
One our old traditions wlc still very existing every new built house small or big alike to envite prosperity in the house! Hope you all ur stay here in our lovely country Philippines ! Tnkyo for coming !!! Godbless!
Thats the way of a pilipino welcoming the visitor here in the philippines and also everyone is invited on a fiesta celebration here in the philippines.
The hostess & her family & home are so beautiful! Esp the adorable babies & kiddos. I think I saw two @ different points toddling or reaching right for Bianca! But the camera angle wasn’t showing if they ever reached her, lol. The house is so light filled & airy, I really liked the wood details & quite randomly, the wall sconce.
Its pronounced as "Honey Why"!. Thats my hometown I grew up there. That St. Julian Church is where I serve as a sacristan when I was young and used to play in the town plaza.
The video is great! It's great you got to show this side of the Philippines. Not many foreigners are invited to these. Though I gotta say, you should've gotten one of those coins as they are said to be lucky if you got one from house or car blessings haha!
Your host's had money and not your average Filipino, but whatever social economic bracket a Filipino is we will always treat guest the best we (especially foreigners). Take that as you will and it implies.
I went to a fiesta in Pulilan Bulacan and yeah, we went around different houses of people we don't know except for a friend of a friend of a friend. They just let you in and offer you a plate to dig in. It was great but it was sad at the same time because some of the houses were really small but they have a small feast that you know they borrowed money to prepare it.
Congrats on your very first fiesta! Still more to come... it's only January... 😄speaking of January/Janiuary... always remember that most Spanish words and names of places that have J in them are usually pronounced as H... so, Jaro [HA ro], Janiuay [ha NEE wai], Ajuy [a HUY], etc. Welcome to the wonderful marathon of Ilonggo culinary dishes! 😋
This is so wholesome! You guys visited Pototan where my dad is from and now you guys are in janiuay where my mum’s from. I’m more familiar with pototan compared to janiuay bcs we always visit pototan. Your vlogs really remind me of my childhood. Thank you so much for your vlogs. Love from London. Xx
"Honey why?"😂 I've never heard of the place either, but lemme tell you: fiestas in far-away, relatively remote places here in the Philippines = THE BEST. The home owners will literally pull you by the arm, dragging you so you can go eat at their house next. They don't even need to know you! "What's your name? Shut up, eat."😁
The house is like my mom's house in Oriental Mindoro Philippines 🇵🇭 Lil bit smaller than that but same style tho 👍 happy fiesta guys and stay safe and healthy to both of you 🙏
Hospitality is one of the most noted worldwide filipino traits particularly the "Ilonggos" becoz after eating & before leaving the owner house they will give some more foods for u to carry out commonly called "bring home/house" or in tagalog word means" pabaon"kind gesture...
Congratulations on your new adventure😁 Religious fiesta is one of many influences of Spaniards in the Philippines. Some Filipinos include baptism, wedding, and house blessings ( the one you witnessed) during this occasion.
Thats the tradition of our every town in iloilo and some other province.fiesta here in metro manila is so diffrent .town fiesta or even barrio fiesta(village fiesta)everyone is welcome and free to eat even strangers . and you can choose any house where you like to eat.and eat all you can without stopping you hehehe as long there is no left over food on your plate.i remember when i was a teenager way back 2003 from 11am until 3 pm i just went about 3 to 4 houses and its kinda funny coz i eat still the same food.its only the taste that makes it different and compare the best food after hahaha and tell my friends that i eated 4 5 houses on that day hehehe
Fiesta is the Equivalent of Thanksgiving in the US, I don't know in Canada if you have Thanksgiving. Fiesta is celebrated with whatever Patron Saint's in a specific place. It's generally a Catholic celebration some also celebrate it with a Festival like in Cebu Fiesta and Sinulog Festival every 3rd Sunday of January.
Correction for your comment. Thanksgiving in USA and Canada is the celebration of Good Harvest season. While Fiesta or Saints Feast in the Philippines is celebrated in memory and honor of their late Patron Saints either in celebration of their Saints birthday or death anniversary. And other province in the Philippines like Sinulog, Panagbenga, Mt Sinukuan festival is the celebration of good harvest season. Fyi
You are sooo mistaken about the similarity between the fiesta in the Philippines and thanksgiving celebration in the US. And btw, we Canadians DO CELEBRATE THANKSGIVING TOO. (Duh!)
oh yeah. lots of fiestas in January in the Visayas, and then on May to June for a lot of Luzon provinces. As kids visiting our relatives in the province, it was always a time where we get stuffed and when the grown ups consume a lot of alcohol. :D
All these families will invite you in the Fiesta, so the trick there is not to eat much, do not eat full, just eat little as you need to visit each of them to eat :)
oh my...this is my town Janiuay-HoneyWhy🤣...if i knew should ask you guys to come and visit my house, though i'm not there but i can tell my family. It's very close from the plaza...next time🙏💖🏝🇵🇭☀️

We do have thanksgiving in Canada but we don't just allow people to show up unannounced haha :)
I dont think so, because fiesta is celebrated in honor of the patron saint ..
Fiesta is NOT thanksgiving.. It's a FEAST in HONOR of a PATRON SAINT of a town or city
Correction for your comment.
