There will probably never be another person like John Moses Browning. The man was an absolute genius

Andrew Dalton Ray Agreed. The amount of innovative designs he came up with in his time is staggering. Without him firearms wouldn't be what they are today.
It could be argued that we are in a time of stagnation in regards to development with the exception of George Kellgren of Kel-Tec but his designs often suffer from poor initial implementation as well as low production numbers.

I have owned and shot more guns than I will ever be able to remember but the feeling of that cold woodsman in my hand when I was a boy Is something that has never left me. It is tack driver accurit made it so much fun all those summers out in the woods of East Texas

I own a 1949/1950 Colt Woodsman just like the one you are showing, except my sights are not adjustable, and is a second generation. The original grips were plastic and chipped on mine, so I replaced them with hand made rosewood. And I make my own custom leather holster for it. It is a beautiful hand gun and like you have said, very accurate. My father bought it for my mother in Okinawa Japan just before the Korean War broke out. And my mother gave it to me when I was 15 years old as a gift for finishing the NRA hunter safety course. It is a family heirloom now, and hopefully never to be sold.

During the depression time lots of companies shot down and companies like Colt they let go most of the workforce and only kept the best workers most younger employees let them go and only kept older more experience seniority Machinists - so imagine them and not just being the best but now they have more time to finish the guns , result - the best quality guns made, anything made during the depression time from guns to cars and anything in between it's quality, the Ford model A it's a perfect example, if you ever get your hands on tools from that period you'll notice it right away, Smith and Wesson, high standard, Winchester, Remington, exetera, in 1964 was the other change in Winchester my uncle worked for Winchester from 1956 to 1969 and he told me before 1964 one person will be responsible for a rifle almost for the entire process but in 1965 everything changed he was only doing the bolt assembly and it was cheaper and weaker steel , after my uncle left Winchester he went to work for Smith and Wesson until he retired .

I have one my grandfather gave my mom in the late thirties or early forties. She was a teenager. Most accurate handgun, out of dozens, I have fired. Beautiful fit and finish and like new. Two extra magazines also.

Was just given my Papa’s 1938 first generation. Just finished sewing a holster from some leather scrap and sinew. Grips are sub par so I am in the process of shaping some new ones out of some blue oak that fell a couple winters back here at the ranch. Can’t wait to get her plinking in the back forty.

I’m looking for one currently for my father, his was stolen in 1975. It was his grandfathers who bought it second hand somewhere around 1920-1925. Looking to add one back to the family for future generations. Beautiful piece, thanks for sharing.

I would be very interested in an episode on a pistol I fondly remember from my teen years. Sadly, one was never to become mine. It was the Browning Medalist.

My son and one of his friends brought me a Woodsman that broke my heart. After a brotherly conflict, the friend's brother had hid the pistol (a gift from Grandpa), in it's factory box, in the crawl space of the house. It lay there, forgotten, for a few years. When they brought it to me, it was pitted and the box was rotten. I was able to get it shooting again, but it'll never again look like a Colt should.

There's one of the very early models at a local shop for 800$ in decent shape, well used but not terrible. Wishing I could afford it, grew up shooting my grandfather's, and would love to own one. His is long gone as Is he..never did find that old pistol.

Mine is 1 production year older and is about 98% - 99%
I've fired it 200 meters and hit a 6" orange dot on a sack of flour. - It's an excellent target because you get a white cloud of flour letting you know when you hit it.

I was fortunate to acquire a pre-war, or early model Woodsman in very nice condition and they are absolutely gorgeous woks of art. My Woodsman, unfortunately, was missing the original takedown pin although I have a later model takedown pin that was in the box. I'm guessing it's a later one due to the bluing being much fresher. The original takedown pin is slightly smaller in diameter, the newer being slightly larger so my conundrum is, do I have my original slide drilled to fit the later pin or try to find a post-war slide ($$$!!!), as the original takedown pins are rarer than hen's teeth. I've been searching for one for over 8 years with no luck.

Can a machine shop make you one? Or can yours be made smaller to fit? Don’t drill the slide!!!!!

Any ideas where I could get my woodsman restored? Colt or Turnbull won't do it. Cylinder and slide will but not the original blueing.
