Eve of St.. Pat's and just turned on TV (NP channel) and three gentlemen, aka Trinity, are singing Grace. I was thinking Sir Rod should have been with them as he does a beautiful job with this song. They are singing the most beautiful old time songs. Another one is Isle of Hope and Shanadoah (so.?). So beautiful. Thinking about the war in Ukraine and pray for solution. Another beautiful song is Fields of Athenry.. Nothing like music. Slainte, USA
I’ve heard Grace many times but never taken notice about it, I went to Kilmainham Gaol a year before Rod’s version came out. When I did and after seeing this interview I went back on the tour and I had Rod’s version on my Deezer playing while I was sitting in the chapel and in the courtyard & I serious goosebumps all over. I love Rod’s take on the song, powerful song and such a sad story
Rod, when I hear you sing this song. Grace, I believe it was really written for you to sing🍀🕊️ You do such a beautiful job 🌹🍀as you bring so much emotion 2:59 to this tearjerker song🌹🍀🌹
What? Are you completely bereft of any Easter Rising knowledge and just what those great men and women were fighting to free themselves from? Seriously?
Please keep singing Grace - your voice. Is so beautiful. I have shared this song with many in USA and they never heard it but now can't stop singing it. Bless you.
*This Irish ballad, written in 1985 by brothers Frank and Seán O'Meara, tells the tragic story of Grace Gifford, who married her fiancé, rebel leader Joseph Mary Plunkett, in Dublin's notorious Kilmainham Gaol prison. Seven hours after the 15-minute wedding ceremony in the austere prison chapel, Plunkett was executed by firing squad for his part in the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin. In 1986, Jim McCann (Dublin-born folk artist and singer), with his extraordinary voice and interpretation, released this beautiful and sad song. It's impossible not to cry when you look at his verses and know his story!* 💔😢

Fiona Cahill I went to Kilmainham in October and again last week after hearing Rod singing Grace and as I was in the chapel I couldn’t help feeling teary knowing that Joseph & Grace only had 15 minutes to get married and Joseph was taken out the following morning to die. Such a sad but harrowing story 😪
@@jdooris83 Good for you for visiting, it is a cold sad place. My Grandmother's favourite song was Grace , and she would cry when singing or hearing it. Rod sings it very well , as have lots of people but I personally love Finbarr Furey singing it . Its a hauntingly beautiful song.
𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐭 (21 November 1887 - 4 May 1916) was an Irish nationalist, republican, poet, journalist, revolutionary and a leader of the 1916 Easter Rising. Joseph Mary Plunkett married Grace Gifford in 1916, seven hours before his execution.
Rod Stewart...educated by Celtic fans as was the Irish fans, if it wasn't for Celtic, you wouldn't even have the fields of Athenrye never mind Grace... that's a fact ☘️⚽🍀
Of course Rod Stewart voice is not as good as it use to be. It is not a competition who can sing the song best. The point is, Rod Stewart is a big international star and the world gets to learn how cruel Britain treated the Irish people. The world also gets to learn how brave the Irish race are. Rod Stewart has shown great respect not only to this wonderful song but also to the Irish people and for that he should be applauded.
𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲𝐧 𝐆𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐭 (4 March 1888 - 13 December 1955) was an Irish artist and cartoonist who was active in the Republican movement, who married her fiancé, Joseph Plunkett, in Kilmainham Gaol only a few hours before he was executed for his part in the 1916 Easter Rising.
There would be no Grace or Field's of Athenrye around the world if there was no Celtic fans...you kneel and be part of the English, we'll stand and be part of the Celts, kneel for no one unless it's Yashua Nazarini Rex Yewes God bless
When ye get ye're independence from the english you can talk. Plenty of ye knelt before Charlie and Camilla a few months ago. Fields of Athenry was a Munster Rugby and Galway GAA song long before "Celltic Fans" ever heard of it.
Fields of athenry is sung at nearly every munster rugby game, most galway GAA games and most ireland matches in rugby and soccer . You might have a case for grace, but it was munster rugby fans that made Fields of Athenry popular
