There's an episode of the Twilight Zone (old one, I think there was a remake but not sure) where a 1950s American realized his professor was an immortal guy from Ancient Greece, and was, like, 2500 years old or something. I dunno, it's been a while since I've seen it. Anyway, I remember that after the Greek guy told the story of how he became immortal, he explained that he just couldn't die naturally, but could still be killed. This led to an inner conflict where he started wanting to die after so long, but was too cowardly to do so. When the student asks him how he survived without getting killed in a war or some kind of accident, professor guy chalked it up to blind luck. I thought that was interesting. Spoiler from here on (though I don't know who needs spoiler warnings for a 70 year old TV show) At the end of the episode, it's revealed that the Greek guy would periodically marry and have kids, then when everyone else aged and he didn't, he would fake his death and move on. He gets discovered by a now elderly ex-wife who thinks his immortality is evil or something, and she confronts & murders him, because she decided it was immoral for him to live that long. So he gets what he kinda wished for in the end, I guess

In case you're curious. Icarus is the son of some dude who was pretty damn good at crafting. The father and son was held captive on a higher place so he used the wax and feathers from whatever to make wings. He decided they should fly away after warning his son to not fly high enough for the wax to melt and low enough for the feathers to become heavy from sea water. His son enjoyed flying through the sky so much that he stopped paying attention to how high he was going so the wings melted and he fell.
I watched a programme about the first story. They also drank a sort of tea which was heavily laced with arsenic. Arsenic is a good preservative, so it helped mummify the bodies by killing off bacteria.
Wait wait.... So basically that ancestral caveman looking fitness scamming guy (can't remember his name...) was trying to obtain immortality by eating raw balls? 😂😂

So the main blocker from immortality is because our dna copies dna over and over and the more times it gets copied the more corrupt it becomes putting us closer to death, that being said dna can apparently last about 521 years, doesn't that mean that from your teenage years if you were to have some of your dna extracted and when your older you had it reimplanted. Isn't it theoretically possible to sustain yourself for about 521 years at least due to the dna being able to survive that long? Note: i am in no way a doctor or scientist so i dont know jack about this other then tidbits just a guy posting their thoughts/theory
I know it's fictional, but I have a character I've written who's tried immortality by replacing his limbs with other people's to stop them from decaying. It works, up until he's brutally killed in a fight, several hundred years after he was born.
Fact many animals and insects freeze solid, thaw out, and return to life every year leaves the potential open that a breakthrough may be possible one day. It may have taken nature millions of years to perfect cryopreservation but that doesn't mean it is totally out of the realm of possibility technology can get there one day.
It would make sense that a ruler would want to chase this down. He's like, life is pretty sweet having everyone at my beck and call 24/7. The law that I made about no women can deny the advances of the "Ruler God" was pure genius of me. I wish this could go on forever.
I remember a book where a guy was immortal and he eventually gets tired of Earth and craves death now but is unsuccessful and just ends up a preacher
