He went to North Korea as a part of tour. He is not the only one who went to North Korea. Various other people and influencers like Nas Daily etc went there but they returned safely. I'm shocked to see how people are calling him rich and stuff. He was simply a used as pawn in a game of politics. He was tortured to an extent that we can't imagine. Instead of saying "May he find peace and justice", we are blaming him????? Ok he shouldn't have gone there but he didn't deserve this, neither his parents. Please guys don't use such words for him. North Korea is at fault and so are the politicians. Everything was well planned and between this a poor guy was trapped. May he rest in peace.

      @safiraazul9317 Місяць тому +89

As the coroner said, “rearranging teeth”’ doesn’t happen, does not exist as some are stating it happened in this case. A tooth is not a tree that you can pull out from one place and “replant it” somewhere else!!!!
Even if the North Koreans have some kind of “special way” of doing it, it would be impossible to do so without leaving serious scars/ or signs of work done. This doesn’t happen, “rearranging teeth”!! Stop repeating this stupidity, please!!!!Bottom Teeth gets crooked over time, even if they were “straight” at one time. This is A normal occurrence in life. That’s not to say he hasn’t been tortured in other ways.
And PLEASE, don’t show your stupidity saying this is a profession and dentists do that. 🙄🙄🙄
YES. Dentists do align crooked teeth with braces and sometimes they have to pull out a few teeth to make space for others to realign in one’s mouth but to PULL ONE TOOTH AND “REPLANT” THE SAME TOOTH IN ANOTHER LOCATION IN ONE’S MOUTH, that DOES NOT EXIST!!!!!
When a dentist talks about tooth implant, it’s because your tooth or the root of your tooth is rotten or damaged/sick beyond repair therefore the best way to go about it is to remove the “rotten tooth” and implant an “artificial” tooth in the same location. The artificial tooth is literally “screwed” onto one’s gum/mouth, the “screws” show in X-rays. If a tooth shows its natural root in an X-ray, it is a natural tooth and it has not been implanted there. It naturally GREW there.
Do yourself a favor and please don’t even reply to my comment saying this outrageously stupid thing revealing that your IQ is SO LOW but Soooo low that you can’t even distinguish what they are claiming happened in N Korea from what a professional dentist does. Pls, go back to school to acquire some neurons and the ability to think rationally. Thank you!

Lots of crime happens in the United States also, when I was a canadian tourist in las vegas, they robbed me right in the casino and security guards did nothing and police did nothing.
Do you blame the tourist and say why did you visit America in the first place?
Blaming an innocent tourist is insane, ofcourse he was probably told that North Korea was safe.
And has anyone even considered the possibility that he was just doing his job?
Perhaps he was an American Spy who was just doing his job, and everyone is blaming him now which is so wrong and sad.

I've been fascinated by this case after watching this video last week and looked a lot further into this, I read many articles and stories about Otto Warmbier and other Americans who ended up in Nort Korean prison.
Since 1996 only 15 Americans ended up in prison in North Korea and all of them except Warmbier made it back home alive and well. None of the others were tortured and were actually treated exceptionally well, much better than North-Korean citizens who end up in prison. The reason? They're very good bargaining chips and a prisoner in bad health or in danger of loosing their life isn't a good bargaining chip at all. In fact all of the others have been used as bargaining chips and got home many years before the end of their prison sentence. So why then would Warmbier be the only one that got tortured?!
No one knows what actually happened to Warmbier, but from the US medical report, nothing points to torture, not even his teeth. Yes they were crooked, but there are no signs that this has been done by pliers or by beating him. The brain damage he suffered was consistent all over his brain, which points to oxygen deprivation.
The medical staff in North-Korea say he came into the hospital the day after his trail.
The theory I read which seems most likely to me is that Warmbier tried to hang himself the night after his trail which caused the oxygen deprivation and the brain damage. He was in a vegetive state after that and the only signs of life he would make were violent jerking motions, spasms and howling inhumane sounds. The jerking motions and spasms is probably how he crooked his teeth, by biting down too hard on them. I've got a lot more reasons to believe that this is what actually happened, but I don't feel like typing all of it down here. If you really want to know more feel free to ask me any questions.

In all fairness, normally it's not that big of a deal There's a minder with you at all times when you're outside of the hotel and everything that you see is staged to reinforce the official view that the government wants you to see. As in, in most cases, just being there and seeing what they want you to see is sufficient for the government, they don't normally need to arrest people and it's arguably against their interests to do so. That doesn't necessarily mean that he wasn't a genuine hostage, but I wouldn't necessarily assume that he was either.

This is a country that sentenced one of it's citizens to death for listening to K Pop and a young mother to 15 years in prison because she chose to save her young children and NOT the portraits of North Korean leaders from the walls when her house was engulfed in flames. Any foreign citizen, especially Americans, are fully aware of the severe risks and hazards of visiting there at any time. They must also know that they would be watched and under surveillance for 24 hours during their entire stay even when asleep. In short, to willingly visit North Korea as a foreign tourist is absolutely insane and completely unnecessary.

If you can think of an off the wall place, other than North Korea, I have probably been there. I just paste a polite smile on my face and behave. Amusingly, I was representing my country at a weekend symposium in Central Asia and knowing the nation well, knew to supply our employees with bottles of water and juice, dried fruit and nuts, as well as crackers and cheese, because events were usually in grand marble building who’s air conditioning was no match for the temperature and would not offer any food or drink over the course of the day. I bumped into the Iranian Ambassador at his area and made small yak through the interpreter. He was an older man and clearly not doing well in the heat. I had on my American flag lapel pin and was wearing my Star of David necklace and without thinking, offered him cool water and food at our area. He looked shocked that I would offer him that courtesy, but my parents raised me better than that and, as he was polite to me, I owed him the same courtesy. He was so appreciative of the gesture (and the water) that he presented me the next day with a beautiful box of Iranian delicacies. Would I go to Iran? Absolutely not, but people are capable of behaving well when the want to, and I am tired of people using culture as an excuse for bad behavior. Civility is never out of style or uncalled for.

A lot of people say he shouldn’t have gone to NK, and surely that’s true…but that doesn’t mean he deserved any of this. You can’t just shrug and say “that’s what you get”… He suffered more in his short life than most of us could ever imagine, and his family will never have justice. They have only their sorrow. This. "Don't go to North Korea" is missing the whole point. What about the people who are forced to live in NK regardless? The foundation of law is supposed to be based upon fairness, upon asking "What if I were the strong one, or what if I were the weak one instead?" We call what they did Human Rights Violations but if we just sit on our butts and say "Sucks for them, don't go there", then it remains just another Tuesday for the ppl in NK. NK should be ashamed of what they did to another country's young citizen but in their primitive war-obsessed culture they probably see it as "Showing how tough they are", just as apes kill the young of other apes to try and dominate. Sometimes demonstrating humanity is being better than the beastly, but sometimes you have to step up and put mad rabid dogs down too...

As a nurse who has cared for people in a vegetative state like poor Otto I am very curious as to how his brain was damaged so profoundly, especially if the damage was to the entire brain but bilateral and not the result of being beaten around the head. I don't know what those soldiers did to him, but I am terribly sorry for Otto and his family. Apparently Otto didn't have any pressure sores on his body when he arrived back into the states which is really extraordinary as it is easy for those individuals who cannot move themselves to end up with significant pressure sores if the care is inadequate. I find it odd that he was clearly "cared for" within the North Korean hospital he was a patient in for almost his entire time in NK but he was also clearly tortured and his brain starved of oxygen as evidenced by the contractures of his hands and feet which are signs of significant brain injury. One of my sons has a close friend who went to NK a couple of years before Otto did and I was so shocked that he had done something SO stupid, but he claimed that he enjoyed himself and the people were friendly! I noticed some posters with NK'n propaganda on his wall, and I automatically remembered Otto supposedly taking the poster off the wall and what that act, IF he did it at all, resulted in To any young person thinking of visiting NK DON'T, there's nothing there that you need to worry yourself about. Watch some of the extensive number of documentaries on UA-cam, and you'll realise that Im right. As weird as it sounds, tourism makes up for a significant part of NK's economy. It's kind of "thrill-tourism". What's also a bit weird in this case is that AFAIK there are always government agents around the tourists to make sure they only see what they are allowed/supposed to see, so damaging something without someone directly noticing seems a bit questionable.

As well as the Chinese guide, there were two North Korean guides, and another governmental man, checking that the tour guides didn't say or do anything you shouldn't do, also all our electronic devices were taken from us when we entered NK, and they were taken into a room and checked, they were also checked when we left and also our photos were scrutinized, and any they didn't approve of, we were asked to delete. I went to North Korea in 2015 not long before Warmbier and stayed in the same hotel on the same floor. For all I know he could have stayed in the same room as me but I can't remember the number.
A Chinese-American guy called Vincent was part of our tour group and was taken away for questioning about espionage. We had a drink the night before we left and he told me how he'd been made to write a letter of apology to the government. The guy was terrified and I was scared for him, glad he made it back okay.

How was your experience when you went? What made you chose North Korea to visit?

@@kylermelson6712 I like going to sketchy places and the communist aesthetic, that's it really. The trip was amazing. That's not to say I'd want to live there, but it was an impressive piece of state theatre and propaganda straight out of Stalinist Russia. Everything is perfectly choreographed except the horrendous quality of the food, they just can't get that right.

I went on the longest tour that Koryo (the tour group) offer and it would take ages for me to tell you about everything. You can ask me anything you like though.

I don't see appeal in NK as a tourist when it's very well known most sceneries and the way people lived were staged. Other than thrill and maybe bragging, there's no point to go to NK.

@@renemejias1842 I did. There's a lot of NK documentary in YT. There's even documentaries of some citizens journey to escape NK, the routes they took and the political climate of surrounding countries that if they got caught they will be returned to NK.
It would be very awkward to enjoy watching a parade knowing people aren't treated well and under a totalitarian style of government. It's all for show.
