Hi Natalie, My name is Veronica. I'm a first term interior design student, and drafting is one of my courses. I know how crucial a component it is and I am feeling tons of confusion, so I was very happy to stumble onto your channel. I think you are such a beautiful soul to be sharing what you've learned with others who are trying to learn- thank you for providing such a valuable learning resource to others. "Architects are optimists, that's why we always draw our stairs upwards". That's going to stick for me, that was helpful. Thank you for doing what you do! I am always supportive of driven women who work hard towards their goals and don't try to play the airhead card, but prefer to impress people with their wits- inner beauty is everything in any industry!
Your awesome and I actually get upset when I see you don’t have as much likes as you deserve you should have millions of likes as u are PERFECT and we all love your videos, I hope one day you become famous and help more architect students ❤️
this is literally helpful now i know a little bit on how to read floor plans and how to make a floor plan, this is helpful for my future job aka architect
The HB seen on the outside of the walls in floor plans stands for Hose Bib (an exterior water faucet with a garden hose connection screw thread design). Of course the W/D inside would be for Washer/Dryer and D/W found in the kitchen stands for Dish/Washer. 🤔
I work as a project engineer and my company builds high rise buildings. Part of my job is trying to make sense of the blue prints, which are surprisingly always full of mistakes. I can see why 😂😭. I'm always complaining that the architecture never draws out detailed wall types and I finally get the perspective of drawing the whole site and then why there's always like 10 revisions throughout the project.
Hhahahah don't shoot the messenger! This is how both Ohio State and UPenn teaches architecture students how to draw floor plans. It is an interesting problem because there is such a major disconnect between architecture school and the professional practice. The first time I ever drew a detail was in JUNIOR year!! that is soooo late in a program! At least in my opinion hahah
Hey. I have been making floor plans on Illustrator, so it's nice to find a new software which is more specialized. I do have a question though, how long does it usually take you to make floor plans for say an apartment building and how do you price your work? Hourly or do you do it project based and what would you ask for like an apartment building one? I'm not American so I'm sure it differs from me but it would be helpful if you talked about it a bit.
Hey Natalie did you do anything like projects or read on architecture to prepare you for when you actually start college. I’m in community college and I just feel like I should be doing something to get more experience before I go to the University
I found out McNeel (creators of Rhino) even made some more free hatch patterns that you can import!! You can check out this link wiki.mcneel.com/rhino/draftingpage and download some nice hatches there. I also found some AutoCad hatches (if you use AutoCad) ones here: dwgfree.com/product/900-free-autocad-hatch-patterns/ I personally haven't downloaded this one yet, but this is great too!
Great question!! AutoCAD is slowly being phased out tbh. I think it's just been around forever and people like a software with more 3D modeling capabilities! So I recommend learning SketchUp if you had to pick(:
@@UnravelingArchitecture Thanks so much! I'm always confused when choosing which classes I need at school because they each teach different software, so I never know which one is best for jobs. Thanks for your feddback!
HAHA omg I get this comment a lot !! Yes! I use Revit in the professional world, at internships and stuff. But in school we use Rhino and Adobe Illustrator to draw our floor plans - super funky workflow!
I do all my lineweights in adobe illustrator! But you can do a "PrintDisplay" command in rhino. You can set your lineweights as needed in your layer manager window
I am.working as arch.drafter past 14 years but its so helpful to beginners..keep it up

Which university you got architecture degree?
I have a degree from Ohio State in architecture and currently attending University of Pennsylvania for my masters!
Looks like you are burning the house? I like the dresser! But seriously, you need to use Revit as professional offices need more Revit users.
