@@PopTart2018 Not an expert but from my experience a hard pull is when they actually pull a full credit report on you which will affect and show on your credit report. I've had a AMEX Blue Preferred card for about two years and they offered a Gold Card to me and when I applied it was a "soft pull" I believe cause it didn't affect my credit report. Soft good, hard bad I guess.
Out of all of the credit cards I have in my wallet AmEx’s customer is the BOMB! A coworker (former) stole my wallet and used my card to make a $5,000 purchase on car parts. When I got the alert on my phone I was in the process of going through my contacts to call them when they actually called me first to verify the purchase. When I told them I didn’t make the transaction they immediately notified the retailer, cancelled my wife and I’s cards and put us in contact with their fraud department. We got our replacement cards the next day which absolutely blew my mind. They’ve always been there in other emergency situations and their credit limit increases are always generous. I’ve got nothing but positive things to say about them.
For beginners or those just starting out in their credit card journeys, Chase is clearly better due to lower-cost cards like the Chase Freedom Flex, Chase Freedom Unlimited and even the Chase Sapphire Preferred. However, it's hard to beat the total value that you can get out of cards like the AMEX Gold and Amex Plat. Great video Chase!
You got that exactly right Matt 👏🏽 I agree. Both companies offer value in their own ways which is what makes it so great to have both. Thank you for watching! 🤙🏽
Been an American Express holder since 1973. Amex is different because it's origins as an Express company and then a travel company. Back in the 1970s they were the biggest issuer of traveler's checks. Travel services including a place you could send items like luggage to. I have a steamer trunk of my dad's that has an address of American Express in London. He sent it ahead when driving from Turkey to England. The original Amex card wasn't a credit card. It was a charge card you had to pay off each month. Even the basic card was among the most difficult to get. In the early 1960s its main competition was Dinners Club. I can remember my dad running out of cash on a cross country trip and reaching Nevada where the Casino took Amex. I still like using my Amex card for travel.
A note about the annual fees… If you’re in the military on Active Duty orders, you can use the Servicemembers’s Civil Relief Act (SCRA) to get the annual fees waived. No fees! This is why a lot of military members don’t mind having these cards with fees. One important thing though is that you have to have the credit card BEFORE you get put on active duty orders. Once you get orders, you’d upload them for the credit card company and they will waive the fees.
I figured this out when Chase denied me for a Freedom card, but Amex approved me for a Gold card, then started sending me offers to upgrade to the Platinum a year later. I'm nowhere near rich lol
People at restaurants/bars etc treat you differently if you show an amex card. While it’s true that they offer great credit cards, it’s also true that they have built a huge value of prestige around brand, which is very palpable in day to day life.
I always hear about this but never experienced it myself 😢 Or maybe I'm not paying enough attention. BUT I also always saw as Amex being the more "prestigious" brand out of everyone. Thank you for watching Velum 👍🏼
It’s kinda true😄 there are times when I pop out the Gold card and get called “sir” and notice a slight demeanor change after paying with it. Not always the case but sometimes it happens. I think they think I may be rich or something but I’m just an average Joe 😅
I had some older guy pay with his GOLD CARD at a restaurant one night. He was super flirty with me and I was only 18. I remember watching him put it on the table while grinning at me. At the time I didn’t know what the difference was😂 I thought it was just a normal debt card. ….I grew up poor so all cards were debit cards in my mind. I only know now because I recognized the picture on the card. I wonder what he thought when he flexed and didn’t get the reaction he wanted.
Amex non annual fee cards like BCE and ED are pretty easy to get with limited credit history. I got Amex ED card approved (as my second credit card, first card is Discover) with only 3 months of credit history. I know people got approved with even less credit history.
Amex is able to tap into a niche that put credit use on a different echelon and a 'flex' so to speak. My platinum right now is in the sock drawer, and my Gold is King in my wallet (along with my CSP)..Chase always good seeing your vids brodie 💪🏽👊🏽
You got that right 🔥 I always used to see amex as like the cool cards to get. Thank you for always watching Mike 🤙🏽 I can't tell you how much I appreciate it 🙏🏽
Amex is for people with more then average income, Amex will review you if they sniff you broke… and they will, their system is very sophisticated. The are number one costumer service out there. They won’t play games, pay in full on time or stay out the club! I love Amex
My only issue with Amex is they cards overlap. I'll be applying for the Blue Cash preferred later this year, but why would I get the gold card (4x on groceries) when I already get 6x with blue cash preferred. I only use Uber when I'm out of town so the $120 credit would do me no good.
I feel the same way. Why would I want the gold or platinum card? None of those perks they are offering to justify the high annual fee are not helpful to me. I honestly find the Blue Cash Preferred where I get 6xs on supermarkets. And even your lowest based Hilton card with no annual fee comes with at least 5x multiplier on gas and grocery stores. At least 7x on Hilton Hotels and 3xs on everything else. So again why would I want the gold or platinum???
UNIT actually says that the entity before manifesting was woven into the TARDIS so it's entirely possible that Sutekh lets Harriet into the console room
I’ll be honest and say that for me it was a status thing. For me, it was a representation that I’d gotten to a certain level of life that I didn’t think I would get to when my credit was garbage and my income was laughable. It’s a physical reminder of the payoff of the hardship and work that I’ve done over the years. No different than a nice car or a nice pair of shoes.
I like the Amex gold. I plan to get the gold as my next card. When will that be? Not sure, I really want it but it just doesn’t make sense for me based on my spending habits and the annual fee. I’ve also heard that the customer service at Amex is great. Good video 👍🏾
Hahah one day you will get a sign that will let you know its time to get it 😅 but if u got other cards that do what you ned to do then thats perfect. Thank you for watching CJ 👏🏽🙏🏽
I am really interested in the Gold card because grocery and dining are my biggest spending categories. But I've heard the points are harder to redeem. I only travel around 1 to 2 times per year and I want an option that gets points with all sorts of travel, including cruises, hotels, resorts and flights. I was interested in Chase, specifically the freedom flex and sapphire preferred card because of the point multipliers, but I don't think I'll be able to spend on all the rotating categories and I don't me spending money on online grocery. I would appreciate some insight!
People like to hate on it but for what you’re describing (kind of my situation as well) the green card is the better choice, lower AF, travel related benefits, 3X on restaurants (they say no bars or cafes, but honestly I’m yet to find one that doesn’t trigger the 3X, not financial advice and all of that, just saying), if you don’t spend a lot in supermarket I suggest looking at PNC and Provident, they have ok no AF cards for that, you could also use the custom cash for supermarkets if you don’t plan on using it on anything else.
If you want to use points for things other than Airlines then Chase might be better. Both Chase and Amex allow you to book travel using points for cruises, hotels, etc. BUT with the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, or Chase Ink Business Preferred you get a minimum base value for your points of 1.25 or 1.50 cents per point. Where as Amex does not have a feature like that. Thank you for watching and asking that question! 🙏🏽

The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant has things like $300 Marriott Bonvoy Statement Credit, Free Night Award and $100 Marriott Bonvoy Property Credit. Also the reward multipliers are slightly different.
I don’t see what all of the fuss is about. Yes, AMEX has the “centurion“ card but many of its members have downgraded to the platinum once they realized the “status“ isn’t worth the extra fees. Especially when comparing the benefits of both. AMEX is not even excepted everywhere, which is a hassle when trying to accumulate points, and doesn’t offer any more than competitors.
