I’ve had a Platinum card for well over 30 years, and I treat it like insurance. 25 yrs ago my wife was in Vegas with her sister when she was hospitalized with a seizure. Her sis frantically called me at 2 AM at home in California, and in desperation I called Platinum card services. They told to just get to the airport and they’d make all the arrangements. By the time I got there I had a flight, a hotel and car in Vegas, the assurance that if my wife needed a different hospital they would move her, and to call them when I got there so they could follow my progress. THAT is why I will always have an AmEx Platinum card.

I used to work concessions at Hersheypark, and one of the season pass holders had one. He'd bring his grandkids there about once a month, order food from my stand and pay with his Centurion card. One of the most friendly and patient customers I ever had.
One year during Christmas he came up to my stand carrying a large laptop bag. So I asked, " Working hard or hardly working?" He smiled and said, " No not today. By the way Merry Christmas"
He then opened the bag, and gave everyone working there a $100 walmart gift card.

I have a basic no annual fee american express and I absolutely love it. At 20 years old I already had an $8,000 a month limit and I love the status of it. People look at you differently when you ask "do you accept American express" (I have to ask at a lot of places I'm unfamiliar with as most small businesses don't for the reason they charge more). I think my favorite thing about the card isn't the rewards or the status of it, but now that I have the thing, it pre approves me for most of their other cards, platinum included. The high limit is great for large business expenses I can't put on my small discover card, and they have a really solid rewards program.

      @jayrose6312 2 роки тому +2

Exactly! There’s no better card for day-to-day spending than the Gold and none better for travel than the Platinum! The rewards can get a bit tricky, so you must read everything as you may miss the $120 Uber credit or the separate $120 dining credit; and then there’s the Premium Rental Vehicle Protection that will save you a ton on insurance, especially when renting for days or even weeks at a time as it’s a flat fee (the I believe the premium level here in NJ is $24.95, for up to 42 days)! When you figure in up to 4% back for groceries and dining, and all the other amazing features such as FedEx Next Day card replacement pretty much anywhere internationally if ever lost or stolen, it’s well worth the hefty fee - provided that you actually use it and take advantage of the offers! Sure, if you don’t travel much, the Platinum is likely an overkill, but damn near everybody could take advantage of the Gold! As I don’t travel a lot, the Gold is my card of choice, but I keep an AMEX Delta SkyMiles Gold Card to rack up miles for when I will eventually need them as they don’t expire! Well worth it!

I have to say this, the real benefit is the platinum stage (been there for 15 years). Before that I was gold for 3. Gold you are a friend but not one they do favors for. Gold is that are you ok enough for my kid to hang out with your kid part. When platinum and you spend at least, 15 to w0k a year on it, then you are the come over every weekend and hang out buddy. You need to borrow my lawnmower, no problem. You need the kids picked up and hang at my place because traffic is bad, no sweat. If your bills and spending that you can route through them is more than $20k a year, then you too can make that once or twice a year call where the Platinum team can do the near impossible for you.

I have the platinum card and have for years. To me it's more than worth it! One example is that it covers insurance on rental cars internationally (where my US car insurance is not valid). Last year I was on a film shoot in a foreign country and needed to rent several 4x4 trucks. The county in question was undergoing some civic issues and was in a state of open conflict with the government. The insurance costs alone would have been north of eight grand, I paid zero. That card saved me over 8000 last year alone. If you are a person who travels for business this card is fantastic and the perks make it worth every penny. I also get $20 per month credit on my cell phone bill that is billed to the card and another $20 monthly credit for streaming services (Netflix) so that right there is $40/month or $480 savings per year that I would otherwise be spending. Club access in airports, savings on events, hilton and marriot gold access, it's a long list of perks.

In a way they believe you, their customer, over the businesses that you used your card. If you claim you were scammed, VISA/Mastercard/banks might get back to you in a week. Great video!
While waiting on hold for 6 hrs with my bank when they locked my VISA card, I filled out an AMEX form. Got approved in a minute and up to this day, I haven’t had a single issue. On the contrary, I want to stay with them for the rest of my life. Customer service actually treat you like a person and help you out very quickly! Meanwhile other banks just treat you like an annoyance, are needlessly rude, disrespect your time with ridiculously long queues, ask the same info over and over, are locked via phone only, it’s a mess. But AMEX? Oh no, Amex even has CHAT and they have 24/7 service. When I was filling out my phone wallet, AMEX gave me the code in a minute. I’m still waiting for my bank to give me one-it’s been a month. Unbeatable service that can be recommended without a second thought. So happy to see other people have had this same experience.

That explains the joke in the restaurant at the end of the universe. For those who haven't read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books, basically a guy who travels the galaxy to write the intergalactic equivalent of Wikipedia carries an American Express card with him. He does this because one of the rules of the galaxy is if a HitchHiker tries to legitimately attempt to pay for something like a meal and the form of exchange is not valid they'll take the HitchHiker up on good faith. They need to pay a fee to accept AMEX payments. Why? Because AMEX card holders are typically more wealthy than the average card holder of visa/mastercard etc. But the ratio between the two being owned is such a vast difference.
Businesses are getting into accepting AMEX, because it will ultimately benefit them, having a wealthy customer potentially spending more.

Once they offer it to you, you can invite other people with simmilar income that already own a platinum card, AMEX will review them and if they pass theyll get one.
Also, if you own it, you can get one for your direct family members (ofc, you have to pay 5k each lmao).

Know a guy who was offered one for his business, said it did have some great perks and prestige was obviously great, but realistically didn’t really do enough more than platinum already did to warrant the higher holding fees and also the minimum required spending limit. A minimum limit on a card is pretty tough, unless you just switch all your expenses to that card which is pretty unreasonable for most people/businesses.

I started with a basic Amex rewards card, and upgraded to the Gold card, my experience has been nothing short of exemplary, the service, respect one gets when swiping the card is second to none.

I would love an episode on Diner's club! They have name recognition even today, but it's because it's on the list of cards places don't accept. How were they so pioneering, yet bungle their head start?

My dad's friend has one, the other day we went to eat with him and at high to get soem drinks. Both times he paid and he got the same look by the waitress when he gave his black Americans express card.
It was the first time I ever saw one.

It’s crazy how impressed people are when I use my platinum card. I think it’s silly. But people truly do react.
