    I’m at a stagnant place in my life where I am slowly unraveling and being generally unproductive. I went to a prestigious art school and graduated with a perfect GPA, but this stage of my life is forcing me to relearn everything all over again. Your videos are helping me pick up the pieces. I hope to get out of this funk soon.

      Hi SevenMillionHobbies….Life does that. I’ve been at a stalemate too…am older and just found Kristy. What a difference she made for me from day one….last week.
      Now my little sketch pad and a small travel set of paints is right by my chair. Instead of waiting until all my housework and other nasty little interrupters are finished before I allow myself to go to my studio to paint( which as you know is almost never)…I take up my sketch book and paints, do a little doodad and then get up and do a little something, then back to my sketch pad…WOW, does that ever scratch that itch! I’m actually getting MORE of both done this way! Who knew?! Try it, it’s fun, relaxing, no need to stress over making a masterpiece…just doodle, paint and enjoy. I’m getting my groove back, hope you do too, and hey, we can share our new found friend too!! WIN WIN💖👍👍

    Kristy, you are the best. I'm living in a deep depressive episode right now. Paintings lost their colors, music lost the tones - only good is that I know it will go over even if I don't feel or believe it at all.
    And now I stumbled in this video, started watching, and ... your teaching, your telling, brought some color in my life. Maybe because it's not about feeling but learning. And I hope so much to paint some muddy strawberries soon. Best greetings from Germany, Jutta

    This is gold! I'm always trying to explain to people that when it comes to watercolour there is no perfect way to do it you have to experiment with different paper, paints and brushes and stay curious when something unexpected happens. With any art you have to make it about the journey and learning experience more than painting something perfect every time because even the best artists have paintings that just don't come out and that's ok because it's all a learning experience! Just put that brush to paper and see what happens! I love your crazy strawberries!❤️❤️❤️

    1. I love watching strawberries being painted in all the colors of the rainbow, but I am not there yet with my own art.
    2. My excitement about a certain rose gold round travel brush that might be coming my way in the future is hard to contain.
    3. I totally constructed a story in my head called "Operation Press Dragon Lift" about a dragon who works as a press correspondent and needs to be lifted STAT out of some assignment location. A jungle? There might be a coloring book in there somewhere.

    I'm not sure when I started thinking the way I do, but it started when I was young, definitely. I know watercolor supposedly has "rules," and that's fine. I don't feel like I need to follow all of them all the time, though. Even back in art school, I didn't necessarily follow the rules. I would mix media sometimes, I would tweak things I wasn't happy with regardless of whether it was "correct." So now I'm fine mixing watercolor and ink and washing tape and whatever makes me happy. I'm working on a piece right now that started as someone else's acrylic painting. I gessoed over it, then got the urge to try my watercolors over the gesso and it's working beautifully.
    Would I recommend this? Not a chance. Am I having fun? Absolutely! I don't know if it will work out, but if it doesn't, I still enjoyed the process and learned something. It doesn't have to end up in a museum... It's enough for it to be fun.

      If the colors being added are complimentary or contain a lot of white\binder\filler, it will muddy soon, maybe just user one layer. If you use the same pigment or a translucent pigment and just keep adding layers, it shouldn't muddy at all.

    • @KristyRice
      @KristyRice  2 роки тому +3

      I adore this question and I think the answer is a good start. Continuing to layer more opaque watercolor will create a finish that eventually feels very much like gouache or even acrylic and not necessarily overworked :)
