When i do art, i do the brain shift thing, and i lose track of time. So, 5 minutes could easily be 45 minutes. And, more importantly, i don't care! BUT, I really resent people snapping me back into real (left-brain) time, so it's better for me to plan some time when i have time. Like late at night when everyone else is asleep. Which leaves me sleep-deprived, but some things are worth it.

Same for me. My husband gets annoyed when I snap at him about it, because even if I say 'I am going upstairs, leave me alone, don't disturb me' he will still pop up to ask if I want a tea or if I want anything, which while it is a nice gesture, it constantly snaps me back and then I get frustrated and just give up trying. Even after I explained my reasons.

I packed a bag for my office downtown (includes a tiny water bottle) and a tiny bag of sketching materials for my purse. I can take breaks during the workday and I’m just a nicer calmer person for the remainder of the day. I always have had a to-go art bag packed to throw in the car for weekends away. But now I also bring my paints on work trips too. Taking a break from long days of meetings to run up to my hotel room. Also makes me a happier and nicer person. Takes only 5 minutes or less to begin to feel the endorphins or oxytocin or whatever hormone is moving to activate with art. Best therapy ever.

I put art on the backburner for years while raising my children.
Then when they were older I was to tired after working all day. Now the kids are grown and I'm forced to retire due to illness. Having a place where the supplies are at the ready quickly is half the battle. Makes it easy when you have a few minutes.

Yes. Just a few minutes is all it takes. I've taken my pen and my notebook and drawn a quick dungeon in the restroom at work. It helps so much to let my mind wander dark stone corridors sometimes.

What a wonderful viewpoint!! 🥰 Taking art in those lost moments to relieve stress... Breathe is a great goal and so amazing at how often we forget to do it! 🤦‍♀️ Breathe and create would be a step above! 😍 These items from your book remind me of the reverse coloring trend. The same idea, different medium, or could have some cross over? Very pretty pages to inspire! 💖

Great idea; a magic cup. But that would require me to separate my pretty and neatly packaged art supplies neatly stored away in it's place. Which is basically a big hurdle on myself to start a project, because you have to dip in all the different containers to get the stuff you need and store it away afterwards. Which exactly drives home your point of a magic cup or basket hahaha.

I had mine all neatly sorted into tote boxes and piled in the kitchen. It was a pain taking them out and putting it all back. You really rang a bell with me with the cup idea. I have a bag of stuff I'm using at the moment that I keep where I paint. I put a little notepad and pencil next to the sofa so I can doodle while watching Netflix. I put one in my purse in case Im sitting waiting somewhere. I can't say enough about removing excuses when art anxiety shows up. Thanks so much Kristy. ❤

What pen are you using that draws over top your painting so easily? I just tried to do that to one of mine with a couple of different pens, but neither made more than a line or two before stopping. They may be too fine tipped. I just tried a 1.5 Pitt pen that seems to work, but I love my 1.5 Pitt pens, and I'm down to my last one, so don't want to wreck it. I need to do some rummaging . . .
I totally agree about finding time to make art. I've had a really bad few years, but before they went so far south, I was doing some pretty stuff, and was excited about where my art was going. Then, my marriage went sideways, and so did my art. I have months and months of just smearing watercolor paint on notecards (because I was not going to waste good paper - or bigger paper - on that mess!), and mostly just ugly smears of me making nothing but a dark, useless mess because my brain couldn't focus enough to make anything better. Yet, it soothed me somehow and was therapeutic because it allowed my brain to check out and focus on something else, so I felt some sense of relief afterwards. I honestly don't know how I would have gotten through some days without paint and paper. Things are winding down slowly, so still haven't gotten back to anywhere close to where I was before, but every once in a while now, I put out a little painting I feel good about, and that's something. 🙂

Love your teachings, Kristy. I am constantly dealing with artists block as a fed in the killing field of Epsteins partners-in-crime. I found that drawing & paintings art supplies is the guaranteed subject I can tackle and be satisfied every time. Especially when the wonkier my lines, the better. Sketches of my.Brushes, paint tubes, ink bottles, pens, markers, pencils etc are always fascinating to me. I get my artist swag back then started tackling wildlife in ugly Christmas sweaters. Raccoons, squirrels, rabbits, etc. For others they may need to start with random doodles, flowers, landscapes, food, coffee ☕ or whatever. I am autistic & not very imaginative. I have to have a reference to start with. But that's just me. Blessings to you & your family! Your channel made my Christmas a joyful one despite my occupational hazards. 🎄

Like you, I Totally agree that it takes less than 45 minutes. I can get into that feeling of everything dropping away and only what I'm doing is there in a few minutes. So much so that I set myself timers. If there is something scheduled coming up that I have to do the timers bring me back to adulting.
All of my hobbies are my play time. If it turns out that I make stuff for people that is mere happenstance.

I agree that it doesn't take 45 min to reach that meditative state but I also think that that is because our brains have formed that habitual groove to slip into more easily from doing the practice time after time.

45 minutes....pffff! Within 2 minutes of sitting down with a paper and pen/ crayons/ paints, I start breathing deeply and sighing with contentment. And my stress goes out the window.
I used to love drawing and colouring as a kid. As a grown-up and parent and serious musician, painting or drawing simply disappeared from my life. Now, 6 months away from retirement, I have started again. Stress levels have dropped, I feel calmer and very joyful! Thank you for the wonderful inspiration and encouragement in every video!! ❤🤗🪷

As soon as I sit down to paint I start to relax and get in my happy zone! 😊 I disagree with the 45 minutes!
