I still can’t get over this arrangement. There’s just so much going on at once it just boggles my mind how it all blends and meshes. 🤯 🌈
This song has been around since the 1650s and it's a true story about a highwayman
Geoff hit a solid F1 chest! New record chest note! Not my favorite song they’ve ever covered, but I still appreciate how beautiful the arrangement is 😊
As others have said, this is a very old traditional Irish song (16/1700's, I think?). I first became familiar with it when Thin Lizzy did their version in the early 1970's and still love that version. They appeared to rejig the lyrics, presumably to make it fit with the usual duration time for singles at that time of around 3 minutes. Colm McGuinness' version is the longer traditional lyrics and I love that as well.
5:25 You actually hit the note! Well done!
Their creativity knows no bounds 😉. Something completely different YET again - and I am here for it. 🥃
"... unless they do something just out of this world." It's VoicePlay... they do out of this world back to back like it's nothing.
Tears to my eyes.... Last time I heard that song my Irish ( Eva of Clan McGuire ) would hum it in her nursing home... still teary eyed... Sooo much thanks...🥲
Yep. Background is it's an old Irish folk song. Lane is doing his beatbox version of a bodhrán, the Irish frame drum. I play one, so I feel it in my soul!
Omg Omar yes is back, this is my favorite voice play line up.
It's my second favorite. J will always be my first
It's a traditional Irish song.
Yes from the Dubliners
@@jandrost3848 it goes back much farther than that.
Is it just me, or is Geoff using fry-sounding techniques more lately? The singing in this is so fantastic!
That F1 in chest though was absolutely crazy!!!
No he only did it once in jacks lament
But the F1 chest !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
❤❤❤😊😊😊
This may be a different version of a traditional Irish song, but Colm McGuinness has an amazing version as well. If you feel up to it Dennis, react to that version.
Never heard Metallica's till recently, more familiar with the older Thin Lizzy version and traditional performances. Great reaction to this Amazing version of a very old story song. My family is split between Crimson Tide, Volunteers and Tigers. My older cousin (Dad's side)played for Alabama under Bear Bryant (so fierce rivalry but politely southern) I just say ROLL TIDE !
love how differently they did this ❤🏴
I've heard many versions of this song. I really enjoy Voiceplay's take. They have yet to disappoint.
So good. My Irish great-uncle sang this to me when I was little. I couldn't tell you that VP's lyrics were the same as my uncle sang but the Whiskey in the Jar was the line that always got my dad.
Love this cover! It’s so catchy. Loved your reaction, your enthusiasm is infectious 😊
My favorite version of this was done by Celtic Thunder, until now Voiceplay has done it again I love this!❤😊 Great Reaction Dennis!
7:40 is indeed an F1 chest note from Geoff
!!!!!!!! Yesssir
Denis, awesome reaction. I couldn’t place the “vibe” I got from this song,, but “1980’s journey” is dead on
This was a new song to me, just love it. When the perc drops in you just sit back for a ride and they do not disappoint. Thanks for the reaction!!
Great reaction.laineis on fire ,the guys in the middle wow and are any of us ready for Geoff dropping down to hell .just magic.
The only other version I've heard of this was by Thin Lizzy. Great interpretation of it
It’s an old Irish folk song so the many takes on it are going to be way different to the original. Dubliners, phil lynot with thin lizzy, Metallica are the more recent styles. (Last 30 odd years.) I grew up with thin lizzy and loved it. This is a good pop rendition and for all voice is amazing.
I'd never heard of this before, but at my age, I should have heard Peter, Paul and Mary's version. Oh, well. Nothing beats Voiceplay for me! I hope you watched the outro. Maybe you could have your audience view outros with you.
This is a nice version. My first version, and still my favorite, was sung by Roger Whitaker. Not to be confused with Kenny Rodgers.
Great reaction. Dude, you have to react to The Beatles new release 'Now and Then'. It will bring you to tears.
I didn't know Metallica had done a cover of this song. I'm more familiar with the Irish group Celtic Thunder's 2011 version of this beautiful traditional Irish song. But Voiceplay's is really nice too.
Same here. Celtic Thunder’s version is the one I’m most familiar with, but Voiceplay did great with it
Voiceplay's version reminds me more of Thin Lizzy's version TBH.
It is a traditional song, but Voiceplay did clearly use Metallica's lyrics. Metallica's lyrics only differ from Thin Lizzy's in the final stanza, but I like the "burn it down" from the Thin Lizzys version. Dubliners, Pogues, and most traditional singers have several more verses and the protagonist of the song doesn't actually get a shot off which very much seems like the difference between Rock and Traditional versions.
EDIT: Also, does anyone know why Thin Lizzy decided to change the rhyming name of Jenny to Molly?
dunno. Jenny is the one i've heard from Colm, Johnny Logan and more
@@wowguy1243 Right? Anyone using the traditional verses sings Jenny. Anyone following Thin Lizzy and Metallica sings Molly.
I really prefer the traditional Jenny. Also they skipped the bit about her putting water in the powder which makes the story confusing.
@@dianeschluter9995 Basically, in Thin Lizzy / Metallica version, the highwayman gets away.
please do the Girl that Never Was by james blunt
VERY DISAPPOINTED. It's not a bloody pop song!
I've been performing it for 36 years.
New chest note record for Geoff F1 😎
