I love when Eli starts messing with his jacket. It means one of two things. Either " Yeah, I'm about to do the damn thing. " or " Yeah, I just did that. "
Growing up Irish I am delighted to enjoy VP take this "highway Man" ballad and drinking song back to it's Irish roots. Whack means a drink or a shot. A drink for my father would be “Whack for my Daddio, there's whiskey in the jarro I prefer the storytelling concept of ethnic ballads over harsh instruments overpowering the story. VP left me wanting to listen to it over and over again. It did not have an angry - yelling at me attitude and allowed me to enjoy all the layers of the offering. Not "trashing" other styles just my preferred taste. Excellent offering from VP and great reaction from you.
There's so much to love in ths! Something that really struck me is how good Cesar sounds in his lower register in the last few runs of mush-a-rain etc. Really makes the harmony.
Geoff really gave them a vocal work out in this one. Probably because this is the line up that will be performing live with Chicago later this month for their anniversary concert . Great reaction.
The harmonies are stunning here. You pointed out so much that I missed. Awesome stuff. How is every new release better than the one before? Even the mimis/shorts are great.
Wonderful reaction! Now, this is indeed some contrast to their latest songs, but then... this is so beautifully done, it's just pure fun. I think the harmonies carry along the song like a horse trotting, or maybe smoothly galoping down the street in a slow travelling tempo - to stay in tune with the song. I've been singing this all day. :)
Beautiful rendering of an old Irish pub time. I first heard it sung by The Irish Rovers about 50 years ago, but this version is just so rich in sound there's almost no comparison. The more I listen the more I enjoy it. Thanks for your very appreciative reaction!
Thank you as always for your great reaction! I didnt realize until reading several comments, that this is an old irish drinking song thats been around since the 1700s! Wow! If thats true, thsts really cool!
This is a very old Irish song back to early to mid 1600s. My Irish great-uncle sang this 60 some yrs ago. I thought he was singing to me, but probably to my dad who had a bar built in the living room, so Uncle George was trying to get his own whiskey to drink.
Even tho' Geoff spoke in the Behind The Scenes about the Metallica version, (about the words sung) he also talked about the differing word usage in the traditional versions. I feel he really came down in between, with a heavier lean towards the traditional, but much updated. I really do not hear Metallica in this at all. What I love in it is the very 'full' sound of the harmonies. I almost feel as satisfied as if there had been a fiddle in it, but there are no notes that would seem to be replacing a fiddle. It is the very fullness (or perhaps as Qofy called it 'strength'). It is in the way VP seems to manage almost a wall of sound in their harmonies. And all that just sounds to me like an updated version of a traditional song.

I really noticed that in Nothing Else Matters.

This is just beautiful. And Eli killed it.

It’s Qofy’s secret power☺️..thank you for watching ❤️
No one can break down VP vocals like you do…this was a real vocal flex..loved it ☺️❤️‼️
Geoff surprised us there with that chest F1.❤
He might be able to get lower. I'm not entirely sure
@Mid-g_4real the lowest he's ever sung in chest is F# 1. Usually he sings F1 and lower in subharmonics.
@@karenponchak5304He's gone down to an E1 in chest, unless we aren't counting the slide from Cheerlander.
@hugobasilio1303 my lowest chest is F#1
I love story-telling folk songs and this one was just wonderful. Voiceplay is just the best at everything.
Great reaction, QoFy!!
Thank you for watching ☺️
It is the best and most interresting acapella group in the world and please, highlight Layne, this uncredible "drummer"! regards from the Northpole
having known this song for a long time this was so different from all over versions but it’s amazing ❤🏴
Thank you again for your reaction on VP. LOVE them and LOVE your face when listening to their music... 🎉😂❤
Thank you for your appreciation ☺️❤️

I have heard this Irish ballad many times but this is a new style for me. Well done.

Loved the revamping of an old folksong. Songs of rebel/robber heroes are still alive! Just with a Voiceplay spin.
They did it again 🔥 they are wizards
❤❤❤❤ loved this! You're the best, QoFy! 💙

It's true! Check out the version by The Dubliners for one of the oldest recorded versions, to see how much it's been changed over time!
☺️❤️‼️
❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is overkill, my ears can't take it. The vocals---- chef's💋
Great reaction 😊

I would love to hear Voiceplay take on more old folk ballads, perhaps a whole album worth, if we are lucky.

🥃in the VP jar - trying something new and why not!?
Voiceplay is incredible however I am not a fan of this song choice.
Agreed
It’s and ok song but I know they could do even better 10x better
They've turned an outlaw ballad into a pop song.
If you want to hear a great cover, check out Colm McGuinness.
