Finally!! Someone who actually show the process of mixing colors 😭 I’ve been looking for someone who shows the colors that needed for mixing to produce another color. Everyone else are only showing how the painting process goes not the mixing. Thank uuu
Love this ❤️ Pls do a video on how you draw clothing (folds, shadows, colouring/painting it, etc!) yours is the best one I’ve seen ever!! I’m so glad I found your channel. I love your style so much and you inspired me to do art more!
@@hambot Honestly I would love to see it in all the mediums that you do best (which is basically everything bc you’re perf) like from a simple pencil sketch to watercolor, gouache, and markers.
i just got my gouaches and i had no idea how to mix or use it, and since i come from a watercolor background, it’s so much harder for me 😭 your videos are so helpful for inspiration and they help me understand more about the medium
I don't envy you working with HIMI, I have such a hard time with gouache working from cups or tubes because I find it too fussy and/or wasteful. I ended up buying M Graham because it rewets SO easily, I just use fresh white and all the other colors are dry in a palette unless I need a big blob for a background or something. You're so talented, I've been enjoying watching your progress with gouache!
I get what you mean! I can't fully explain why miya is hard to mix with. I'm trying to understand it but after trying the holbein i now understand the difference between professional quality and student. After trying it,i immediately ordered one big tube of the white. Thanks for the comment, Sarah ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Could you do a watercolor version of this? You're SO good at showing all of this type of stuff and I feel like I've improved a lot because of your videos them ILY (using my dad's account)
Your videos have given me the confidence and motivation to try and improve my gouache&watercolour portraits, sometimes I'll rewatch some of your videos multiple times, they're so good and helpful! Thank you for showing up throughly the process and how you mix skin tones 🥺 ❤️! It has helped me so much!
You've done very well in making the colors serve you as they should. I do understand your wish for fully control color applications with short bristle brushes, but see many times where you may have had greater ease with a round configuration. It is a beautiful example of gouache portraiture. Thanks.
This was sooo helpful. I come from watercolor, and have only really painted with acrylic outside of watercolor, so the consistency of gouache is difficult for me to get right.
Hamrib great video on mixing gouache! Thank you for sharing your insight on the struggles of painting with this medium and the plus with working with professional level gouache. By the way - beautiful work on this portrait!!!
titanium white is made as (just) a white paint vs other white which are more transparent and made specifically with mixing in mind. that probably explains why titanium white makes the colors dull
Great job. Excellent video. Maybe it would be helpful to think of green as a complement/(darkener) for flesh rather than purple. That would also help blush tones. YMMV. Best to you.
omg this is absolutely perfect!! it helped me a lot, thank you so much! it really makes me wanna learn more abt gouache painting, i started using it a while ago and your videos are being very helpful! your art is amazing 💖

Ang gandaaa talagaa, huehue your videos made me buy these gouache paintss, I usually do ghibli but so farrr I really love it, Can you please do tutorial in mixing your palette colors? Like what colors you mix for the skin and other colors?
Beautiful! I’m getting started with gouache and totally overwhelmed with where to start with skin tones. What brushes do you recommend? I have the Holbein set… and I love it!
thank you for this! i'm just starting out with painting with acrylics, and mixing on the palette is the thing i seem to be having the hardest time wrapping my head around. coming from a drawing background it's quite confusing haha
I think your muddy problem is coming from titanium white. It is very opaque and it dulls down the colour loads, you are better to use a zinc white to mix with because it is more transparent. I really appreciate this video, I usually paint landscapes and I always start with darker colours but it makes sense to have the lighter one first because it is harder to get lighter colours from the darker colours without making them muddy or weird even with the zinc white!
The Holbein will be a much more enjoyable experience than Himi because Holbein is a professional gouache so contains a higher quality pigments and a higher pigment load, so colours are more clean and less streaky.
Ty!! I purchased the himi set because I’m new to using gouache, and wanted to have a fairly inexpensive set to practice with + build the consistency of painting everyday (I come from a background of painting with oils and the amount of time it takes to mix my palette + clean up afterwards wasn’t working with my schedule.) I’ve been doing research on other brands to try in the future, and I’ll probably go with Holbein!
I wonder if the muddy effect is more caused by your yellow. the Holbein yellow is a lot warmer than the other one. Also the Holbein red is cooler than the other. so, overall a more vibrant mix.
Would it be better to mix the paint with a silicone stylus/brush thing? I usually prefer using them for pre-mixing since it doesn't have bristles that could trap the previous colors and slow the process, plus the silicone makes it easier to just smoosh it onto the palette and waste less.
@@hambot i got so inspired by your art i bought watercolors so i was wondering maybe a pen sketch of drawing the clothes and using watercolor for shadows?
Which one would you recommend for someone whose interested in going for a smooth, yet opaque piece: gouache or oil paints? Would you use boar brushes for either?

Saturation is how bright a color is. It really depends on how you want your painting to look. However, desaturated (closer to gray) colors are more similar so painting with desaturated color can help to keep the painting cohesive.
