Excellent introduction to the world of interpreters, done with clarity, an evident passion for his (former) job, illustrated with historical anecdotes and enlightened with quotations by Ortega y Gasset and Margaret Atwood. This video should be played as an introduction at the first class on simultaneous interpretation.

This brilliant conversation is not only a great summary of the history of this profession, but also a clear way of presenting what takes place in the world of interpretation: not only is it a matter of terms and languages, but being able to handle tension and to always be ready for the unexpected. I truly enjoyed what you said that the identity of the interpreter is intimately tied to our mother tongue because, besides this being absolutely true, those different identities are what interpreting needs to communicate. Great conversation!

I enjoyed the natural delivery of this talk, how it didn't sound scripted, rote, formulaic (a common occurrence in TED talks). Memorized talks can certainly be engaging, but they also lend themselves to predictability, which detracts from connecting with the speaker of gauging their sincerity. Your speech sounded like how we actually talk in conversation, which speaks to one of your arguments (pun intended): that good interpreters convey natural sound and smooth delivery when honored by the cadence and nuance of speakers expressing themselves in their mother tongue.

Thanks for a valuable and enjoyable presentation. I'm honored to have Brazilian friends and Deaf friends, and I consider myself an admirer of these and other cultures and languages and a learner of this trade. I'm sharing this video with friends who also serve as sign language interpreters in Mexico. Parabéns. Gracias.

Amazing, Ewandro! I remembered that first workshop you and David put together at UnB sooo long ago. You are a genius with words, so no wars for you, my friend.
