    OT: My first bike, Honda C70 back in 1979, gave me the Freedom to get out and about. I never thought about speed and power. One trip, I managed Hard Knott & Wrynose....great fun... with tent etc strapped on the back. True, you don't need massive power....but it's nice!
    Since then, like many folks, I passed through 500cc, 1000cc etc and now a V7 STONE Special and T120 in the garage
    Must be getting old 😂
    P.S. love the (mystery) ride outs
    Back in Yorkshire next week (Canada) to visit mum....but no bike 😢

    A version of the Panther long stroke sloper but modern would be great.
    Leaning the engine at 45 degrees means a whacking great stroke without a tall frame.
    Just love the feel and pull of longstroke singles

    I might be the odd one out here TBW, i just dont think a 'modern classic' should ever be water cooled no matter the styling. The BSA just doesn't do anything for me especially the horrendous USB brick block on the handlebar let alone the radiator.
    With respect to the potentially new classic 650, it all depends on the chassis & weight if it uses the super meteor frame.
    Time will tell.
    Cheers!

    I think the 450 would make more sense. The 650 whilst charming is a bit lardy. All the extra tin work of a classic would make it as heavy as the SM which is just too heavy. But ….. on the other hand would you want a radiator on a classic?. Look at the BSA 🥴

    Maybe have a Single Cylinder 650 Classic? That would have gobs of torque. I'd buy that. Ride safe Dave and keep the rubber side down. Cheers from the States.

      For the bullet and classic 500 you can get a 612cc stroker kit from hitchcocks, tanking it to about 35ish hp

    Always bigger and better, but why? How about smaller and better adapted? Coming from a mk1 650 V-Strom, the first press image of the Hunter was love at first sight. A test ride sealed the deal, though I did have progressive Hagons fitted as part of that deal. It's the perfect bike for me, comfortable, exceptionally nimble (despite its 180kg) and a great tractor-like plodder for pottering for hours down leafy lanes, especially the hidden ones with grass down the middle. But it's also exhilarating, pushing the bike to its limits when having a blast on tight and winding B roads. The 20hp bike felt strangled at first, but with the now obligatory mods, open air filter, fuelX, and decat open flow exhaust (a stainless steel 225mm oval Delkevic), the bike now runs absolutely freely, possibly with as much as 24hp on tap. It's now the perfect bike for me, built for purpose, not speed.

    The Guerilla engine would drop into the Hunter without any compromise to the classic styling ,That classic 650 looks to me to be to close to the Shotgun in looks what say you TBW ?😉 Really like that there Guerilla👍

    I've been keenly anticipating the arrival of the Classic 650 since the rumours began to do the rounds. My thinking is that if RE can pull off the overall look and classic styling as they did with the 350, then I'd be definitely interested in buying one. Looking at the 'spy shot', I'm not entirely convinced they've pulled it off. That bike looks a bit too similar to a Shotgun or Super Meteor. I will however, reserve my opinion until I can look at one up close once they're released. If it doesn't 'tickle my pickles' as you so eloquently put it Dave, there will definitely be space for a Classic 350 in my shed!

  • @Bordpie
    @Bordpie 2 години тому

    The Classic and Shotgun will essentially be swapping engines, a Shotgun 350 is in the works too, as well as a bullet 650. It seems like they are making every style of bike in every engine size. I myself am anticipating the Scram 440, a development of the air/oil cooled 411 engine, an inbetween the Scram 411 and Guerilla 450. Supposedly coming out in January, but with the number of bikes RE are releasing soon, I'm guessing it will probably be a bit later.

  • @MrMoneyHelper
    @MrMoneyHelper 8 годин тому +1

    Today I'm not feeling any desire for a 650 cc RE Classic or any big motorcycle. The 350 with 30 hp would be plenty. I owned a Kawasaki 500 cc cruiser that had 50 hp. It weighed about the same as the RE 350 models. The 350 models need another ten horsepower.
    I think that my 125 cc scooter is an awesome commuter motorcycle. The small size and weight make it so easy to move around. The downside to it is the short travel suspension and small wheels make the ride really rough at times. For those reasons I would like to try an RE 350.

  • @Bob-xc2us
    @Bob-xc2us 2 дні тому +3

    I agree that the RE 650 twin is a little bit vanilla. It has a 270 degree crank and makes it's torque too high in the rev band. It is undoubtedly a good engine but it lacks the low end grunt I so dearly love. A 450 single would make a lot more sense for people of my mind set.

  • @AliasMrHackenbacker
    @AliasMrHackenbacker 2 дні тому +4

    I'm tending to agree with you regarding using the 452 engine in a classic guise. The newest 650 twins are too heavy coming in at 240 and 241kg against the Interceptor weight (220), this puts them at the same weight as the 900cc adventure bikes but without the power of these bikes. The classic 350 is a charming bike but as you say people should be aware of it's performance shortcomings (if that is a consideration) before purchase. I know of 2 classic 350s that were traded in after very low mileage due to a lack of performance, I know 'cos I bought one and saved a packet!

  • @PhilipBallGarry
    @PhilipBallGarry День тому +1

    Looks good. I think they've pulled it off. As others have said though, the weight might be an issue - especially if they've done the usual RE thing and made both fenders out of steel? Other than that, I can't see any other way they could have shed the extra 20kg that the SM carries. Would we accept plastic fenders if it kept the weight down to slightly more than the Interceptor?
    If not, it would need a power increase to offset the weight - maybe a capacity increase to 750cc?
    Love that you pulled up to do a U-turn to access that road to Kirkby Malzeard you've not travelled down before. Accessible biking - that's what it's all about. I still very much enjoy riding Ernie the Classic 350 and it's still my go-to bike for exploring. I have overtaken things occasionally on mine too - it just takes a lot of planning. And it certainly does do 0-60 mph, it's just not something that can be measured... 😂

    If RE try and sell us that ‘ spy shot’ bike as a classic they are heading down a dead end road. There is a market for a big single oil cooled or air cooled ( emissions dependant of course ) big capacity classic … like the gold star but with RE supply and support.

    Morning Dave, as you know, I too have been harping on about a Classic 650 for a couple of years now 🙄 constantly waiting for it to show up 😂. Unlike your good self, I am not sure a “Classic 450” would sell that well. I think that purists would hate it, and newcomers wouldn’t understand it. I can see RE doing more with that magnificent Sherpa engine though…….how about a “GT” along the lines of the 535 🤔, the revvy characteristics would really suit a bike of that ilk in my humble opinion. It will be interesting to see what develops.

    It's a no from me. The C350 is that rare thing where a manufactuer comes up with a package that, by design, luck, star alignment or whatever, is just perfect. The 650 just doesn't look right in that package. It would be interesting to see what they could do with a clean sheet though, desert sled anyone?

    I have been thinking & the thought has crossed my mind , that happen here said RE rep was sounding you out , as potential You Tube reviewer for 650 sized Classic . This was possibly in the hopes you would be so enthralled with it , that you would get rid of CF 800 in case & before cams showed signs of melting to replace it with new classic 650 . I reckon you have thrown him a curved ball with your suggestion of issuing a classic styled with new 450 lump in situ. Me myself reckon any new classic needs to have a long stroke single bucket oil cooled lump in it , as it would be more in keeping with classic old Brit styled single plodder , for slugging up steep hills ,such as those in Yorkshire , Lancashire & Wales . 👍

    Sorry but as a Classic 350 owner for over the last two years I will not be interested in the 650 twin Classic, totally wrong type of engine as far as I am concerned. I also would not be interested in a 450 Classic as again this engine is too higher revving compared to the long stroke j series engine. The only reason I can think that the j series engines failing is if you must do over 70 miles an hour, then you need a different engine.
    I will stick with my 350 even if the 650 was the same price as 350 and ditto if they put a 450 engine in a Classic 350. The thing about the Classic 350 is the zen like quality this bike possess, after a 180 mile round trip to my Brothers this week the bike never missed a beat and I was as fresh as a daisy and I am 70 years old , that for me typifies the Classic 350. 😊

    I think the interceptor is due a refresh… we know the engine can go out to 750 and 865 with off the shelf parts so why not do that and give it a slight refresh at the same time? Don’t do what Triunph have done with the Speed Twin 1200 though and fit a TFT.. that would ruin it.

    As an American with no cultural or historical ties to RE I don’t understand why they would make a Classic 650. It seems to me that it’s pretty similar to the Interceptor and Shotgun. Are the styling differences that important to people? I think the low power is at least half the appeal of the Classic 350 reborn. If people were complaining that the new Classic didn’t have enough thump I don’t know what they’ll think when it sounds like an angry sewing machine.

    I like the look of the J series engine it is "classic" , but a 450 motor in that frame might detract from the style
