One dying company buying out another dying company.
Respect for going down with the ship.
Reminds me of when K-Mart bought Sears.
They are Deadpool and Wolverine holding hands while the time riper destroys them. Going down together.
😂😂😂
Everyone in the sticks has one of the 2. You can't get cable or an internet connection fast enough to stream
Satellite Dishes are actually more popular in rural areas. However High Speed Internet is being more easily available in rural. There is also over the air broadcasts with an antenna.
In my hometown you can only get internet or cable within 2 miles of the post office, our ranch by itself is over half that, dish is the only way we can get anything more then cbs and nbc
I love when John talks about these topics.
Buyouts
Merger
Studios situation
We had DIRECTV. In fact, we were one of the first people to get it. We dropped it after AT&T bought it because the rates kept going up. Maybe now they could fix that problem and give better prices to people.
Former DirecTV, now Dish customer. I need my DVR!
Clearly they screwed up by firing me. I really could've turned the company around.
With the prices of all the streaming services skyrocketing lately, it might be cheaper to just go back to cable at this point.
2:52 You can't get a monopoly when people can just sub to UA-cam TV that fits perfectly with Google TV anyway.
So Kmart is buying Sears again...Got it!
I hope this mean we get blockbuster store again with this buyout
Now my Direct TV is going to go up
Dish owns blockbuster.
What will happen to the store in Oregon?
The Last Blockbuster in Bend, Oregon is independently owned. They do have the Blockbuster franchise license to pay to Dish Network. DirecTV will now own the Blockbuster franchise license.
Throughout the 80s and 90s I got my TV via a 10-foot backyard dish (still my favorite method of getting TV, especially before the scrambling started in the late 80s). I was in north central West Virginia and could watch all the programming from Canada. Even after scrambling, companies such as Turner Vision offered not only the big packages, but a la carte options where you could pick only the channels you wanted and pay a small fee for each (I long for a return to that model). Plus there was still a ton of stuff you could never get with a small dish or cable or from UA-cam TV (backhaul feeds of sporting events, etc.). DirecTV and Dish killed the backyard dish around the turn of this century. I left West Virginia, ended up with cable and now use UA-camTV and several streaming services. I have no experience with the small dishes, although I did try free trials of DirecTV Stream and Sling before settling on YTTV. It's going to be fascinating to see how all this mess plays out as cable continues its accelerating death spiral.
I've been trying to cord cut and but it's cheaper to stay with cable/internet packages for me
The only reason to get dish is if you don't have high speed internet
i don't have cable i just have a smart Tv and my mom pays for friendly tv its a app that has channels like cable just without the cable box!
Lmaoo i tried to explain to my wife a couple time😂
I cut the “cable” because the lack of service from these providers. I’m sure less competition will help
This deal marks the end of directv as well … this deal os ridiculous.
Dang
My family has Direct TV with Gemini air after our phone company pulled the plug on cable
How does affect sling TV ?
Regulators will likely approve this because not allowing mergers seems more the exception than the rule. And no one is out there representing the thousands of people in rural areas that can only rely on satellite. So Directv will do what every single internet provider has done where there is no competition, and price gouge those customers. "3rd party studies" LOL I'd love to know what the context of those studies were.
I believe the merger is off.
I thought it was illegal for a company to buy out a direct competitor in the market place? Leads to a weakened economy not to mention monopolies!!! Where’s Lina Khan on this?
It's not illegal at all. Clearly the market for satellite television is contracting, so the merger makes sense. It should increase profitability for both companies while they are both struggling.
No ! and What's next ?
I had DirecTV for a few years that's when I got my first DVR with them they had a good selection, but I do not think this will not save them which is sad because I believe terrestrial cable needs to make a comeback streaming was fun at first but now it seems to be making more problems than it is worth.
I don’t think the Government regulators, will not approve this sale
Insert No god No The Office meme
Bad investment. Ppl have been moving away from cable TV for years.
Why incur that much debt to have a bigger slice of a ahrinking pie?
What's gonna happen with sling tv is the price gonna stay the same
Why would a company sell for debt
0:26 Doesn't Dish own Sling TV?
Sling TV probably has one more year of operation. DirecTV Stream might have cheaper plans in the future similar to the Sling TV low prices.
@@amazingeric97 Yeah, I was thinking, how the hell are they gonna have competing services under the same parent company? Sling TV's brand is way too iconic to just die off like that.
Directv is on life Support. We have Directv But if they raise the price again it might be the nail in the coffin ⚰️ for me. Goodbye 👋 DIRECTV.
Directv is? No, Dish Network is. They are broke.
