great build, thanks for your support
Thanks! Love my BT kit!
Cool build man, so similar to my preferred V-Raptor setup. The Komodo outrigger handle works great as well on my cam. And the Breakthrough VND is fantastic indeed. Good stuff!
Beautiful rig, man. Loved it! Enjoy the new toy!
Loving it!
Fantastic setup! So anxious to get my hands on a Komodo X.
Nice build Tyler! Looks so clean. Wish you could add a teradek TX to the monitor, but it definitely cleans everything up and makes it look great as is!
Dude if this monitor had TX built in, that would be so insane! YOUR MOVE RED
Looks great!! Thanks for sharing :)
🙏
Solid man! Just waiting for my Komodo X black edition to come. Love the DSMC 3.0 monitor!
Nice! Awesome camera for sure
One cable is so clean 👌
Big facts. Even bigger facts would be no cables. Let’s do this RED, I know y’all got this!
Nice rig Tyler! This camera nerd enjoyed watching you talk about your setup.
Thanks dude! Appreciate you dropping by!
Fly setup! I live and film here in Charleston too and love watching your videos for concepts and inspo. Keep it coming!
That’s dope! We should link up sometime! 🤘
@@TylerEdwards that would be dope!
Very true, I don't have the Komodo-X and I don't intend to buy it since the only feature I'm missing with my Komodo right now is the DSMC3 monitor which is way too expensive anyway -- however I still watched your video because it's just nice to watch camera nerds rig out and showcase their gear. Very clean setup, even though the top handle seems to limit your monitor tilting radius because of it sticking out so far.
Bright tangerine actually make a mount for their top handle to relocate the monitor which is a great solution. I just prefer the monitor lower to keep the overall camera profile smaller. I don’t find I need to swivel the monitor much in this configuration but since the handle is a nato mount, it is very easy to remove if I need to swivel the monitor. Big reason why I didn’t opt for the red top handle
Looking good. Got a similar bright tangerine setup for my Komodo. I got the top rod-bracket for the tophandle and I attach the motors to the top-rods. So the motors stay on the rig if the left field stays on the tripod.
Clean 🧼
💅 ya kinda great
Killer breakdown. Efficiency is how you have an enjoyable time on set 😁 I just posted a vlog about shooting for the Wall Street journal. It would not have been possible unless I had an efficient camera system.
🙌 It makes such a difference when your rig doesn’t get in your way and let’s you just work
I’ve been waiting for this - likely never going to be a RED owner, but this one is interesting!
Never say never! Lol. But even if you don’t, this may be helpful if ever kitting out a rental 👍

I've always been a huge fan of Bright Tangerine - it's nice to see that they're getting the respect they deserve.
Great walkthrough. I ordered the black body and am getting all of my gear now. Get information on the left field kit, I will be picking up several pieces for my build. I went with Red's new top handle mostly because of how the DMSC3 monitor can be mounted on it. I felt that the end of the bright tangerine handle would get in the way of the monitor screen when looking at it. Do you have an issue with that? Finally I went ahead an ordered the new Red eND for my mount. Very interested in seeing how that will work. Great build!
It doesn't get in the way, but Bright Tangerine also makes a mount that allows you to relocate the monitor to the top handle : bhpho.to/3NcriRr
It is a great solution, but I just like how the monitor sits lower on the OEM mount.
I'm currently running the Komodo X with the canon speedbooster and the same lens you have in the perfect run and gun setup IMO' great video and enjoy your new camera
Nice! What’s your ND setup?
@@TylerEdwards I’m using a Peter McKinnon 82mm variable pro mist 2
I pray that handle doesn’t collide into the monitor
Good review. How much run time do you get when you use 98w battery?
How does the autofocus work with that lens? Is there a servo on handle available that zooms the lens slowly?
Just got my Komodo-X waiting on my DSMC-3 7" monitor to arrive but wanted to try out the phone. Connected just fine but I get no picture. Do you know what I'm missing?
How do you mount the handle if you don't run the outrigger handle? Can it be screwed into the monitor base?
nice Rig, I have same VND and is incredible!!
one question,
basically there is no sense to shoot in ProRess but, when shooting 4k 120fps, there is a crop like in OG Komodo? or there is a read out from all sensor?
There is a crop
Hey do you mind linking the mount you used for your phone.
Nice build! Does the outrigger handles button work in this configuration?
Looks like the monitor is getting power through the POGO.
Do you need to hook up a STI to the monitor for both to work?
Yes it does. The monitor base has pass through pins for R/S function.
@@TylerEdwards Thank you!
Hi Tyler! Great video. How does the sigma autofocus works against canon rf lens?
It is decent. Nothing to write home about. It is cool to have AF in some cases, but I think people expect Canon or Sony level AF and it is not close to that on any lens (RF or adapted)
@@TylerEdwards thanks!!
Hey Tyler! Appreciate the video. I'm trying to figure out how to best power the Komodo-X when it's rigged up on a Ronin or such. I can't seem to find many d-tap to 6-pin LEMO options for this camera though...have you found any that work for you? There's a Kondor Blue one, but I'm not sure I wanna trust a $40 cable to not fry a $10k camera...any experience here?
Same lemo as vraptor and dscm2 and there are lots of options. Here is what I have: amzn.to/3rNCHR7
Great setup Ty ! Can you include a link to the VND ? I can't find it...

Do you worry about the monitor folding back into the monitor screen?
Amazing build, thanks for the video man
Nope, not a worry of mine
can the handle block the view on the monitor?
Nice and simple build or anything like that :P. JK
Couple questions and comments:
- What ND do you use when using the speedbooster? Especially when wanting to stack filters
- Do you plan on getting the mutiny or RED I/O expander? Or none..
- How do you like the monitor mount solution? Looks a little limited if you want to raise the camera higher..
looking forward to what you will create with it
1. Depends. For run n gun, just a polar pro vnd but for bigger projects I use a matte box and really like nisi IRNDs.
2. Yes, I plan to add the mutiny expander in the future and that will only be needed for me for bigger projects where a video village os setup or first AC needs power for wireless focus and monitoring setup. The build in this video is really the ideal owner/op setup for me.
3. I love it for handheld. For tilting for high angle, I just remove the top handle. BT makes a mount to relocate the monitor which is a great solution, but I just prefer it lower profile and being able to remove the top handle really quickly. It’s a trade off for sure, but definitely the setup I prefer for how I typically operate the camera.
I've heard that the monitor was flimsy. Have you had any trouble with that?
@@faithhouse6111 it is rock solid. The only real common failure point is the RMI cable which I have mixed feelings about.
@@TylerEdwards you think mutiny could make an RMI cable?
@@faithhouse6111 mutiny can do anything! lol i'm not sure if they do or not since the RMI cable is proprietary. RED sells them on their site.
Im nervous youre going to destory that monitor with that top handle. mount it on the front there and things would be way more chill lol
Hahaha. I did actually put a piece of the soft part of Velcro from my tentacle sync at the end of the handle for my last shoot haha. Unless I’m using the top handle, it’s off the camera anyways. I just like the monitor down low like that.
I want this camera.
it wants you to have it too
Any other monitor you recommend for the komodo x ?
SmallHD 702 touch and cine 7 are also great monitors and can control KX with the control cable/license.
What about microphone for run and gun shooting?
ua-cam.com/video/WX9qi8OCNzA/v-deo.html
So you never record audio?
Usually external. After I published this video I got the Mid49 xlr adapter and it is also great
Don’t crack that monitor
Screen protector was on the first thing I did to the monitor haha
