  • Quick little shelf project, (not sure why the video ended up so long!) It's simple project but that just gave space for some experimenting which is always a good thing!
    P.s Forgive the camera work, beginning to think I should have stuck with what I know and stayed with the canon setup.

    Not my usual style of woodworking but always fun to have a play! That said, there is nothing 'industrial' about those brackets :-) Once again, apologies for the camera focus, think we will be back to Canon before too long!

      If you can manual focus to the distance where you stand and use an smaller aperture ( 5.6 and above) you should stay in focus. The background has too much contrast so i think the camera will focus on that instead of your smooth face (and head, no offense)

    on a job a couple of years ago i needed to clean up 400 used scaffold boards to make furniture. belt sanders were a hopeless option for cleaning off cement and plaster etc. given the number of boards we had i thought something more drastic was needed, so i used a cupped wire brush on a nine inch angle grinder. it was amazing, cleaning up each board in a minute and saved a huge amount of time it was also great for removing splinters from the sides and the bonus was it exposed any metal in the wood. i had no dulling of my circular saw blades afterwards and there was a lot of cutting.
    if anyone is thinking of using this method, then no 'loose clothes 'is absolutely essential for safety, and the amount of dust means its an outside job.
    i love the shelf, turned out great.😊

    I never thought that watching someone make a shelf would be interesting. Love the effect that burning the wood has.

    Great video. I don't think I've ever received a bracket kit where the screws have been any good! So frustrating. Just a quick heads up. If you're looking for a good wood stain I've used Rustins. The colours are really natural compared to some. Thanks for posting the information on your multi stove by the way, suppliers etc. I think you've saved me hundreds!

    Shellac is made of the female lac bug from India and Thailand... Funny you used it as last week i bought 2 Liters of it for some home project. Its very easy to use...

    • @evabuchberger5787

      you can buy it as flakes, too and mix it up with alkohol.

    Nice detail Tim. I've thought about these boards as a cheap source of timber but like a previous comment, worry about what they've been exposed to...

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  5 років тому +1

      Sometimes they are cheap however you would be surprised what some reclamation places want for them. It’s cheaper to buy planed solid ash from my sawmill!

    Isnt the table saw supposed to have a guard? That might stop the dust being flung up too. I recall watching an american bench carpenter on discovery home and leisure who put a disclaimer on saying guards removed for photography purposes.

    A shelf is fair enough but it makes me cringe seeing people male tables etc out of these boards having seen the nasties they are exposed to in industrial environments. A lot haven’t come from construction.

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  5 років тому +1

      Agreed. And often they are selling these for a small fortune at reclamation centres.
