Might get one of these. I looked at the PiKVM but it's very expensive especially considering it's powered by a low cost Raspberry Pi. My home server doesn't have a display hooked up so it's kind of a pain when I need to troubleshoot.
There’s no copy paste text function sadly which is important when managing servers remotely. Still sticking with PiKVM until they implement that feature.
They should include a header connector so you can use one of the usb ports in your case to pass through the power button thingy. You likely won't need it for actual USB in a server-device and this way you don't have to pass a cable from inside your case. And if I were the developers, I would also make a version that can toggle the mains power off and on, for systems that don't have regular motherboard headers for power and such (like nucs).
I'm CS student and I really interesting in stuff like this but I didn't knows much about it, so I hope if there a littler more introduction info about it. Thanx.
That's pretty cool, but given I need these things so infrequently, I think I'll just stick to my PiKVM (which I think is absolutely awesome, every time I use it). But they both look considerable other that the glaring issues you pointed out. Maybe someone will make an open source one using the the RP2040W or if the RP2350 + wifi.
So you cant use this to remote access a computer in two different locations? Like i built my nephews pc and my brother wants me to be able to remote access it from my home. To download drivers for gpus and stuff. Hes 10 years old and doesnt know how to do those things.
If anybody wants a cheaper option for just powering on and off your PC for a desktop (some laptops too?), purchase the kasa smart plugs, and change your PC to power recovery state in the BIOS. After this once you and toggle on and off the smart switch from your phone it essentially acts as a power button. You can get a four pack of these regularly for about 30 bucks.
The $150 is essentially scalper pricing, those are resellers, the official store has not jacked the price up but apparently they may not ship to the US right now according to other comments. Right now in the UK I could order the lite version for £28.42 and the full version for £56.87 including VAT but not including shipping from their official store.
It's a low wattage USB power supply. Just drop a cheap power brick in-line with the power USB cable and there you go. Battery backup for when the PC is off.
I do wonder how secure these little devices are, and you shared my same findings. Not very safe to use until they open the source. Do not put these on the web or use them in your enterprise.
Honestly, Wendel's solution seems like something i'd want for home use. i really REALLY want a 24 port USB-C KVM for enterprise laptops and micro desktops with a 1500w PSU for power delivery and an internal gigabit switch with 10g uplink(though 1G would be fine) Checkout laptops are my nightmare, they need to be windows, they cant be on the domain, they have to use a shared admin account, which means i have to wipe them before i can send them back out often more than once a semester. Covid made me hate my job, i spend more time on these 50 checkout laptops than i did managing the 1200 desktops and laptops pre-covid. I've resorted to finding a few good USB-C dock conected to my 32 port iKVM and using those to image and set them up but it is such a rats nest with all the wires needed.
5:00 Dude!!! Running it on a vlan is not the solution if you are scared of being hacked!!! The device literally has access to everything you type click or see!!!
And if said big, scary device can't connect to the Internet because... you know... you can put it on a VLAN with no routing to the Internet then... what are you moaning about?
This product is great, but it should be easier to use. I would like two USB devices that work together (factory paired). One for my phone and another for any computer, allowing for easy connections much like TeamViewer. I do understand that this is a completely different concept, but it’s something I have been wanting for over 10 years.

I bought one of these. It's so helpful for handling my homelab!
I've been waiting for this my whole life!
Might get one of these. I looked at the PiKVM but it's very expensive especially considering it's powered by a low cost Raspberry Pi. My home server doesn't have a display hooked up so it's kind of a pain when I need to troubleshoot.
Would like to see another video where you hook it up to multiple computers and see how it does. Because it's a really interesting concept product.
Does anyone know if the performance on something like this is better than sunshine and moonlight?
the exact second he said "case your computer freezes" my router crashed
There’s no copy paste text function sadly which is important when managing servers remotely. Still sticking with PiKVM until they implement that feature.
They should include a header connector so you can use one of the usb ports in your case to pass through the power button thingy. You likely won't need it for actual USB in a server-device and this way you don't have to pass a cable from inside your case. And if I were the developers, I would also make a version that can toggle the mains power off and on, for systems that don't have regular motherboard headers for power and such (like nucs).
That's exactly what they do on the full version.
4:07 It took you 4 minutes to even mention a "hard coded secret keys for things" and then you wrap up the video with "probably good enough for you"?
Agreed, disappointed. Even more so with the seller rasing the already dumb price2x-4x
@@Qbert2030 A stupid video probably gets a whole lot of engagement - so good or bad is probably better than OK.
@@Qbert2030 the page they linked is a reseller, the seller has not raised the price at all.
How is the web UI / app on a phone? Everything still work?
9:28 Ah, are these the fabled linux ISOs talked about on the WAN show?
Jake: "a little bit cleaner way to do it instead of having to run jumper cables."
Also Jake: "Oh look jumper cables those are useful!"
😂😂
when the price goes back down and its properly distributed, and with open source firmware
i will buy so many
the idea is perfect
Buy from the brand and not reseller linked in the video
@@robertbslee4209 i checked the link from the brands website, the were the same iirc, though theyve probably changed again by now
I'm CS student and I really interesting in stuff like this but I didn't knows much about it, so I hope if there a littler more introduction info about it.
Thanx.
can i use this to do wake-on-wan?
Once you check out much iKVM/IMPI 2.0 support costs in official server boards, this makes a lot of sense.
prices are back down, the jacked prices are just other sellers taking advantage of the storm of ppl trying to buy one
Level1Techs featured this and it went oos for a while, and now you guys feature it too ;-; I'm never going to be able to get my hands on one
That's a fantastic keyloger you got there
will it work with mac mini?
That's pretty cool, but given I need these things so infrequently, I think I'll just stick to my PiKVM (which I think is absolutely awesome, every time I use it). But they both look considerable other that the glaring issues you pointed out. Maybe someone will make an open source one using the the RP2040W or if the RP2350 + wifi.
Yeah I am not giving a device with hardcoded secrets access to my Tailscale assets. Nope.
Its open source, from the BEGINNING they stated it will be open sourced from October.
I like the owlbear(?) & wolf shirt you got going on
I noticed that too. I think they are Scratch and the owlbear cub from BG3.
Amazed people are still considering this even with the hard coded backdoor!!!!
Your getting more than a cheap KVM people...
So you cant use this to remote access a computer in two different locations? Like i built my nephews pc and my brother wants me to be able to remote access it from my home. To download drivers for gpus and stuff. Hes 10 years old and doesnt know how to do those things.
There are better and simpler solutions for that purpose. Chrome Remote Desktop is probably the most easily available one, and works great.
I wonder what embedded in the cat picture
If anybody wants a cheaper option for just powering on and off your PC for a desktop (some laptops too?), purchase the kasa smart plugs, and change your PC to power recovery state in the BIOS. After this once you and toggle on and off the smart switch from your phone it essentially acts as a power button. You can get a four pack of these regularly for about 30 bucks.
Im definitely getting one ad soon as the firmware is open source and considered save.
Lmfao 1.5x and background audio i thought it was DAN! LOL
You should take the link down for them spiking the price. (I know they won't don't beat me up 😂)
That isn’t them. LTT linked a random AliExpress seller not the official store.
@@conorstewart2214 ahhh ok ok
The other day, I bought a JetKVM hope is fine and easy to use.
Okay now at 150$ its stupid expensive for what it is. But 30 also seemed way to low because i just bought a single hdmi to csi thing for 30€
The $150 is essentially scalper pricing, those are resellers, the official store has not jacked the price up but apparently they may not ship to the US right now according to other comments.
Right now in the UK I could order the lite version for £28.42 and the full version for £56.87 including VAT but not including shipping from their official store.
It's a low wattage USB power supply. Just drop a cheap power brick in-line with the power USB cable and there you go. Battery backup for when the PC is off.
Spinning circle is called Throbber, there is a pirate software short on it.
Maybe review TinyPilot next? You can roll your own or buy a Voyager from them
You kept saying kvm but I think you mean ip-kvm or kvm over ip?
I do wonder how secure these little devices are, and you shared my same findings. Not very safe to use until they open the source. Do not put these on the web or use them in your enterprise.
If they release a 2K res version, I'll be on this thing like stink on a platypus.
Honestly, Wendel's solution seems like something i'd want for home use.
i really REALLY want a 24 port USB-C KVM for enterprise laptops and micro desktops with a 1500w PSU for power delivery and an internal gigabit switch with 10g uplink(though 1G would be fine)
Checkout laptops are my nightmare, they need to be windows, they cant be on the domain, they have to use a shared admin account, which means i have to wipe them before i can send them back out often more than once a semester.
Or buy a smart plug and set your bios to turn on with power on. And you can turn on your computer with your phone or voice assistant.
That's exactly what i was looking for
5:00 Dude!!!
HDMI transmitters and receivers do exist, as do wireless keyboards and mice.
Takes like 2 months to get to you but love it.
I have two arriving soon, to fiddle with 🙂
actually..... I built a PiKVM for just $80 (you can easily go much, much cheaper, mine is slightly overkill)...
and mine's just 33% more $$ than the NanoKVM Full
Whew, glad I ordered 5 of the lite ones for $167 with shipping.
