  • Gas fireplace pilot lights can blow out frequently during the Winter and Spring with wind. Cold drafts coming down the flue can impact the tiny little flame. Sometimes the thermopile becomes defective with age and use.
Make sure the damper is fully open before operating. Get some matches or a small jet flame igniter.
Of course I should also mention every chimney and fireplace should be inspected annually per the NFPA 211 and common sense. If you have never had your fireplace inspected or have not had it inspected recently I recommend you call a licensed or certified and insured professional with a national credential to check it out before lighting.
But if everything is good and up to code and the pilot light simply dies out... then gets some matches and watch this video if it is a manual igniter.
If it is an electronic igniter watch a different video on that.
If an electronic valve unit isn't lighting then it's probably your batteries are dead etc.
Identify your nearby wall switch on the left or right side of the fireplace. This will activate the main burner once the pilot light is successfully lit.
Also make sure after you light the pilot light that you turn the on off Pilot Knob from pilot over to the on position. This gives authority to the wall switch to turn the main burner on.
Overall the type of fireplace and gas logs set set up in this video is not our preferred or recommended scenario. We highly recommend a gas insert with a direct vent liner system being installed in its place. This will permit the system to be sealed off and not have cold drafts come down the flue in the Winter. Direct vent gas inserts will also make your home safer and more efficient and warmer.
Keep burning and enjoy your fire this season. .
