  • The show from 2013 finally has a full Netflix release. But how does it compare to the old series? Is the charm and humor the same? A little bit of yes and a little bit of no. But the real question is, how much have they expanded on the original series?

      I liked it, because it fit the overall theme of life. Sometimes shit just happens with no explanation, and it fully fucks up your everyday life as it used to be.
      Also, I really loved that Violet was really just a selfish asshole, and the mystique around her was fully just from Cardamom's pov.

      @@MOONACHIEVESART that's understandable but they needed the "start up" episodes for new comers. Sometimes they hit and sometimes they don't for the people like us who already know the basics.

      @@MOONACHIEVESART I generally agree, but there are some small aspects of Lazy in Space that contradict the original series, such as Bee having been around for the entire lives of the Wizard siblings, and somewhat implied to have known their parents as well. And, on the whole, I like the new continuity, even if I agree that the remade beginning stated things way too obviously that were meant to just be implied in the original.

    I always thought of Bee and Puppycat as a mystery series. But it's not like Gravity Falls where the truth is actively hidden, but more like people just don't talk about everything all the time, so the audience doesn't know 'cause no one brings it up. Felt more grounded in reality to me.

      I think I'm struggling to relate having watched the original online series and remembering how much of a cliffhanger *feeling* I got from watching the end of the first one, to me yes its lorically more of a cliffhanger but I feel like that's more of a technical way to achieve the goal which is *feeling* like the og series, so if they wrote in a bunch more cliffhangers just to really feel like a cliffhanger I can totally understand that.
      For the record I'm still just as frustrated as everyone else that there are cliffhangers, I'm just not *more* annoyed or frustrated with this one than the first one; if it's a crime, it's a crime BOTH shows commit if that makes any sense 😅😅

      same!! it got too repetitive in my opinion. also, cass got really annoying and generaly out of character imo, since she just kept saying mean things to bee, like "deckard could be here right now if it wasnt for you, bee!! youre the reason he left" blah blah blah. like, in season one she practically was forcing him to go to culinary school because she knew it would be good for his future, so whar's this fuss all about?? bee also generally doesnt act the same, she's mature, sure, but she's not fun anymore. she's lacking some personality. i also wish they focused more on cardamon, his mom and the backstory of bee and puppycat. the pacing is confusing and the jokes are not funny anymore. anyway, it just doesnt hit the same to me :( PS. just because this is my opinion, doesnt mean bee and puppycat season 2 is bad in general!! if you like it, thats totaly ok, and im glad youre able to enjoy it. ty for reading this

      But then in the netflix series there's a scene in like the first ten minutes where her shoes are FULL OF GLASS and she's STILL WEARING THEM WITHOUT FLINCHING, oh yeah and when she took the blame for decard her hands are charred black but she is still unfazed and using them. it's like yeah I dunno how you think in any capacity a human could withstand any of that, anybody with eyes is gonna be painfully suspicious.

    I've been following this show for forever. Season 2 (lazy in space / netflix episode 4 onwards) was originally meant to be made for vrv but it went way over deadline and vrv dropped it. It was in limbo for a while as they tried to get someone to licence it but would release it if it wasn't picked up by a certain date (forgot the date) netflix picked it up and most likely asked for them to remake the first seasons quickly in the same style as season 2. I started to watch the Netflix version but it deeply upset me that they thinned Bee out. One of my favorite parts about the original design was that she was bigger and for Netflix they made her noticeably thinner which didn't sit right with me.
    And the changes they made felt superficial. Like it didn't feel like enough substantial change was made between this and the original Lazy in Space to warrant a complete redo. When this was announced, I thought they were going to upload the original shorts (and maybe a reanimation of the pilot) and then use their new Netflix budget and time to expand on where the OG Lazy in Space ended, which is pretty much exactly the same place. Honestly, I think that would've been a better option.

  • @theresivy
    @theresivy Рік тому +58

    the thing abt Lazy in Space is how its a semi-reboot of sorts, which is why they turned Bee and Deckard’s mutual crush on each other into a mother-like bond and made Crispin have a one-sided crush on the oblivious cyborg.
    Though, I much prefer Beeckard and the overall vibe and art style of the first season/original series, I find it interesting how they chose Crispin as the new love interest because of his hobby of tinkering with machinery (outside of his clowns obsession), so we dont rlly know if he loves her as a person or loves her as like a test subject since he knows from the start that shes a cyborg.

Also Puppycat’s story was really weirdly paced. I think this show has terrible pacing, but I love the art style and the potential the show has. But honestly this show was kind of lackluster? It didn’t make much sense and not even in the fun way, plus the voice acting was TERRIBLE. For example the episode where Deckard said “gazpachooooo” like whaaaaat 😂 also Deckard was only in like 5 episodes so that was sad. My fave ep was the Crispin centered episode. Aesthetically it was beautiful, there is lots of good ideas. I just hate how the pacing got super crazy slow, there was so much dead air in the show. Deckard kind of got shafted and the romantic subplotline between him and Bee was majorily cut down in lieu of his brother. It felt maybe it was building to something grand or amazing, but I have the feeling it will never really get a conclusion.

    I have personally watched a whole bunch of shows that end of cliffhangers that never get resolved because they do not continue for one reason or another. While I prefer stories that can remain self-contained and not obligate you to watch a second season, I don't hate open-ended endings like Bee and Puppycat Lazy in Space had. It is less of a cliffhanger and more of a transitional period. We know that what is happening in the future will take some time to expand upon and probably won't just be resolved the very next episode. It is frustrating, but this "cliffhanger" is probably the least offensive one I have seen.

    • @OcyTaviAh
      @OcyTaviAh Рік тому

      @@josiahjohnson1666 this is fair and I don’t disagree, but that was kind of my point. The season ends in a transitional moment, there is obviously a lot of story left that isn’t going to be resolved immediately. Typically, cliffhangers are called cliffhangers because it’s like leaving a character dangling from a cliff, as in, the situation you left off at is going to revolve reasonably quickly in one way or another. I do not believe that this season of Bee and Puppycat even ended in what you could call a cliffhanger, because it’s not going to be something that is immediately resolved. Cliffhangers are generally supposed to be tense, purposefully frustrating instances or big reveals at the end of a story than compel you to stick around for the next instalment. This didn’t feel so much like that, in my opinion. I am typically a big fan if works like Bee and Puppycat, that reveal things in more passive ways rather than forcing the story and constantly leading the audience to the conclusion that the writers want. I was a big fan of the first season of the tv series Westworld, until the last episode of the first season when the big bad guy goes on his unnecessary overexplanatory monologue that breaks all the rules of “show don’t tell” storytelling. For a lot of people, Bee and Puppycat leans too far in the other direction of show but never tell never talk about it only vague illusions. I understand how that can be frustrating, but it’s personally one of my favourite types of storytelling and it feels very true to the nature of characters to not overexplain or questions certain things because they’re living their lives and not narrating a story. But that’s just my personal stance, I can definitely understand why other people are frustrated by it and are more keen for the plot relevant parts to be clarified or more deeply explored, but I don’t think this is that type of show and I think it’s purposefully not that type of show.

I think the best way to enjoy it is to just go with the flow and not try to find logic at all. I think I enjoyed it so much because I accepted from the beginning that it was mostly a vibe and that I just didn't have to make sense of it.

    Being a fan since 2013, it's been rough being a fan. It's an awesome show with so much potential but the studio has been driving me crazy with promises of release dates over the years --several times over and NEVER reaching the supposed deadline and then going radio silent for years. The only complied time was it going on netflix. Sometimes you just thought it was cancelled. Especially since the kickstarter made all that money and then there was the promise for episodes. Then you heard the team was in japan making episodes, and subsequently years later you finally find out oh there is a season, but it wasn't released but LEAKED. I saved and watched the leaked episodes tbh and they're way better. I also watched the netflix series. I almost cried watching the first 2 netfkux episodes cause they were so bad and different. And certainly lazy with all the chibi drawings. The season aligned more to the lazy in space leaked show from then on with some noticeable changes, but it's definitely a slightly different show. If you're a new fan, you wouldn't notice, but as an OG, which a lot of people are, it's disappointing AF and unprofessional.
    PS. I even had welovefine merch from Bee and Puppycat still like the puppycat doll and I threw away my puppycat onesie thought because it got a little messed up. I was in early high school when this show dropped! Crazy how it's 2023 and we're still talking about it 10 years later

Not only that but a lot of the world building and plot just went away . Like BEE BEING A FREAKING ROBOT?!? They quite literally just threw that into the trash. Puppy cat being a prince??? That also didn’t get anything interesting. ALONG WITH CARDAMONS MOM like I was so confused at the ending and it was all so rushed. From what I picked up, it was clear that they had nothing but a friendship, Bee is even implied to have already dated, or at least lived with one of his siblings. His motive for declining culinary school in the Netflix series was outright stated from what I remember. He was worried about what would happen to everyone if he left, and didn't think they'd do well if he left (Not in like a selfish way tho, more like a mom), I could be wrong though, and feel free to correct me, I haven't had a rewatch since my first binge lol.

    Lazy in space very much feels like it has the opposite issue of adventure time.
    Adventure time always felt like it was about to do something big, it wanted there to be a big epic story filled with lore. But they were trapped in a highly episodic formula. So, any time something potentially interesting got going, it got cut just a little short, and it made the show unsatisfying and frustrating. There were good parts for sure, but over all it never got where it needed to be.
    Lazy in space is very much the opposite for me. Bee and puppycat had weird lore and a big story going on, but it always felt like the focus was on simpler things. There was a hurricane around bee, but she lived in the eye, and that was comforting. I didn't want answers, i didn't wanna go on a big epic adventure. I wanted to escape that and live in this peaceful bubble with bee. It was unique in that aspect, and i think its cozy vibe put it right where it needed to be. A safe place, where the lore wasn't as important as bee having a fun day. I wish it had stayed there.

    I love the series, my only complaint is the redone episodes with Netflix. I like the art style due to its consistency however I much prefer the UA-cam because it has this comfy look to it. The episodes were flat, no love, and lacked emotion, much like Bee in the three episodes. She had zero personality and was “a robot” in them also they basically took the whole mystery level out by revealing it all in the first episode. They got rid of the very “slice of life”, cozy, homely, nighttime vibe with the remake. They shouldn’t have redone the episodes, revoiced the lines, made it into some children’s show with very childish jokes, etc. those three episodes also don’t match the “Lazy in Space” part of the season (2?) because of what they did for those three episodes. They should’ve just reanimated the series but left the dialogue alone, the story alone with maybe added in parts for the extra side character lore they provided because that was nice. I looooved lazy in space however i did watch it before it’s proper release due to the leak so I had an opinion already for it.
    I still hope it gets another season because this series is my comfort series. I watched it so much, I even downloaded the UA-cam and Lazy in Space so I can watch it whenever wherever, this was back in 2020 and I still use them to watch it so I have a continued flow of the same vibe since lazy in space was made before the remake episodes.
