    Honestly, when we see Rapunzel's tower get destroyed, you can understand her pain because despite all that trauma and being manipulated her whole life, that was still her home and where she grew up. To see all those years worth of semi- good memories from before learning the truth, destroyed in mere moments in front of her eyes is heart breaking. Not to mention all the art she did is just gone.

    Fun fact: Some storyboard artists pitched a spin-off show for Varian called Varian and the seven kingdoms where he would go on a journey his mother died on with three other people and it was a really interesting concept, the executives loved it but thought it wouldnt do well because they thought the fandom didn't like Varian enough which is kind of stupid since he is literally the most beloved character in the series

    With Cassandra’s narrative, you also have to keep in mind she’s supposed to be Rapunzel’s best friend. But the moment they meet Adira, a suspicious stranger they choose to throw all their faith in her and don’t step in when Adira mocks Cass. All throughout season two leading up, Rapunzel shows a complete disregard for Cass’s thoughts and advice. She even has a whole song about how no matter how hard she tries, she’ll always be second best (Waiting in the Wings). Finding out Gothel is her mother isn’t the turning point for her villain arc, it’s just the straw that finally broke the camel’s back.

    • @sofialozano4031
      @sofialozano4031 Рік тому +283

      A lot of people miss this point so badly. Cass was always seen as second place from Rapunzel. Even in season 1 we can see that, from the game episode to Secrete of the Sundrop (she led the troops and in the end Rapunzel saves the day and gets the praise anyways). the fact even her own mother ditched her for Rapunzel (arguably for the wrong reasons) made it worse. It’s obvious her actions afterwards are evil, but it’s not like she was all happy until this happened.
      Also, considering how Cass reacted to Rapunzel talking about her mother in Rapunzel Day 1 and their conversation in Tale of Two Sisters, it’s pretty obvious Rapunzel didn’t tell Cass much about Gothel as a person.

    • @DragonGoddess18
      @DragonGoddess18 Рік тому +110

      Yeah, whether Rapunzel meant to hurt Cass or not, it doesn't matter.
      Intentions don't always matter. Cass was hurt by Rapunzel's actions and inactions. Rapunzel wasn't as good of a friend as she thought she was. And she learned nothing.

    • @friefrank
      @friefrank Рік тому +50

      If Cass felt underrated being Rapunzel’s lady-in-wait, why didn’t she just spill it out and quit to find another job? When Rapunzel and Eugene tried to pry what Cass thought out of her heart, she simply refused. So how can they know how Cass felt? Her betrayal makes all the adventure they went through and all the conversations meaningless, with all her baloney of destiny and jealousy.

    • @DragonGoddess18
      @DragonGoddess18 Рік тому +82

      @@friefrank Rapunzel (almost) always disregards Cass' boundaries and feelings, almost as if she's wrong to have either of them in the first place. Rapunzel doesn't listen to Cass, the person Rapunzel keeps saying is her best friend. I mean, Rapunzel severely burns Cass' right hand and she only says this: "I'm sorry but I did the right thing" That's not a real apology, especially when you add in the word "but". When you do that, you're basically saying, "Forget the first part of my sentence, here's what I really mean." I don't ask "Why did Cass not talk to Rapunzel?" I ask "Why not?"

    I really hated when they turned Cassandra evil. I could see where they tried to build up how she felt - always overshadowed by Rapunzel in some way. There's a power dynamic in their relationship that Rapunzel doesn't understand. She's a princess who wasn't raised as a princess, but she's still considered a princess to all her people, including Cassandra. And when it seems like Rapunzel won't even listen to her anymore in favor of someone they literally just met, it was whiplash. Cassandra felt put in her place. When Cassandra is not only trying to keep her friend alive, but also do her job of protecting the princess, yet Rapunzel won't allow her to do any of that and basically pulls rank. It just sours their relationship.
    And I can understand how Cassandra might feel like finding out about her mother. She was robbed of any ability to even learn about her. So she takes out that anger out on Rapunzel and puts Gothel on a pedestal because she's no longer there to justify her actions. Rapunzel got to know Cassandra's mother. But Cassandra could only dream of what it might have been like to have a mother. I can see how that would make her act out.
    But it was just way too much to drop on everyone all at once. "I'm betraying you! Also Gothel had a child! I was the child! Gothel was my mother!! Also, I now have the moonstone. I hate you so much right now! Because Gothel was my mother!!!!! And now I'm not going to act like normal Cassandra anymore! BECAUSE GOTHE---"

      I actually had a theory that the Sundrop and Moondrop have effects on the emotions of people who 'bear' them. It would be the reason Rapunzel is so happy and upbeat despite Gothel being a terrible person who only cared about her hair, and Cassandra would have had her negative emotions ramped up. Grabbing the Moonstone in the first place? An impulse fueled by being afraid that more Moonstone power would send her back to that 'Dark Mode' state, which almost killed Cass the first time, and everything after that has to be taken under the lens of 'if anything could make her upset, the Moonstone would ratchet that way the hell up' so she'd thought about her Gothel-related grievances, but she didn't really take them seriously until the Moonstone was sitting in her chest.
      Rapunzel was fine because, well, she has literally had the Sundrop's influence on her for her entire life. Nobody would really notice any difference, assuming there was one. Acquired Poison Immunity, basically. Cassandra... didn't have anything like that. Zan Tiri manipulating her was more an issue of the Moonstone making it really easy. In theory, Lady Kaine could have done as good a job, it's just that ZT knew a lot more about the cast and the lore, so she knew which buttons to push. Heck, maybe the reason she doesn't bother showing herself until Cass takes the stone is because she knew that those tactics wouldn't work on Rapunzel, partially because Gothel used them on her for over a decade, and partially because one of her underlings tried that with magical assistance and it still didn't work.

So you end up getting misunderstandings and manipulation that make the villain's motivation look petulant and stupid without the writing treating it as such.

    I'm really not a fan of Cassandra's villain arc for multiple reasons but I think the worst is what was touched on in the video about toxic friends. The idea of having patience and understanding for a friend even when you're fighting is nice and all but kids shows are always taking it to such an extreme that it comes across as justifying abuse because it comes from someone you care about which is a really bad message. I would've liked it more if Rapunzel at some point decided that she'd stop trying to 'save' Cass and instead take steps to protect herself and her kingdom, while offering Cass a place to come back to if she wanted. That's already something that would take a lot of forgiveness and emotional strength without sending a harmful message.

    "Is Rapunzel like a god" well actually yes, the origins of the fairy tale/folklore comes from various sun goddess myths. That aspect has been lost to most versions, like the Grimms, but it seems Disney decided to tap into the idea by giving her hair sun/healing powers in the original movie.

    The series was so good in a lot of areas but so bad in others. I loved the expanded cast and Kingdom residents. All of Rapunzel's new friends felt rounded and like the writers put a lot of heart into them. I especially loved Varian, Lance, Red and Angry, and Hookfoot. I loved Eugene becoming more mature and trying his best to prove himself as a reformed man and a good leader, I actually found myself liking him so much more than I did in the movie because he bettered himself. [[SPOILER WARNING]] But I hated the fact that they made Eugene the "Lost Prince" of another Kingdom (him being secretly royalty is absolutely pointless) and towards the end of the series he lost a purpose in the plot and was just there.
    I used to love Cass until the reveal of her being Gothel's biological daughter happened and they brushed aside her admirable traits just to force her into a villain role even though NONE of her actions make sense. She resents Rapunzel over her being kidnapped by Gothel as a baby. Rapunzel was stuck with an abusive woman while Cass had was adopted by the Captain of the Guard who went above and beyond as a doting parent (he was easily the best parent on the show). Rapunzel was raised by a monster who took every opportunity to lower her self-esteem, and Cass is JEALOUS of that? She was so great for the majority of the series but her heel-turn was so poorly done.

      I think Cass’ motivations not making sense, is the point, she doesn’t know what she wants to do to what she’s doing. Her mind (which is already in a bad mental state) has been warped by Zhan Tiri and the moonstone, making her already existing strain and jealousy for Rapunzel warped too. I think that’s the way it’s meant to be interpreted although, it’s not very clear.

      Elena of Avalor did this as well. S1 was a lot of world building and one-off episodes introducing characters and their places and then in S2, it had a more serialised story with breather episodes in between, while still developing the characters. Then S3 was a hot mess in the latter half. Everything up until Magic Within was great, but it kind of dropped off after that in my opinion.

      As far as I know its because disney prefers monster of the week plots and tend to be INCREDIBLY heavy handed during all first seasons to focus on that kinda storytelling, they tend to give the team more control after s1.
      Obviously they get some story bits in s1, but they gave to still work under the restrictions more.

      Yeah, I felt the same way. Season 1 was great, season 2 was okay, season 3 was bad. Season 2 was fun and inventive but it felt a little like a road trip movie and there were certain times it just dragged (the island mini arc comes to mind). What's more is that it was kind of hard to get invested in some of the adventures and mini arcs when you know they're going to be moving on next episode and likely never mention this/ that place again. It kind of felt like it was padding out time. Then came the finale. It was a big change but I wasn't too surprised. (I think I was spoiled?) I was actually interested to see where that was going. But then they're like 'ah whatever lets just go home'. Not only did it feel anticlimatic, it was like, what was the point of that entire last season then? Then Varian was back, yay! But his arc was resolved super quickly. It felt like 98% of it happened off screen. He feels bad, he's a good guy now, the end. And then he was gone except for like 1 min cameos... not so yay.
      And what got my goat the most was how Rapunzel slowly turned into a Mary Sue as the episodes went by. In season 1, she had things to learn, she did things wrong, etc. Now, it's like, she's always in the right, she never does anything wrong, any argument isn't her fault, etc. She doesn't even get mad/upset with Cass betraying her. She just shoves it all down and we never see it. Doesn't even make her lash out like you would expect. Rapunzel's biggest Mary Sue moment that comes to mind especially is an episode in season 3 where it shows how Cass and Raps became friends. There was an episode very similar in season 1, actually. In it, she tries to become friends with someone, they don't want to, she gets exceedingly pushy and starts rolling over their boundries, they get more aggressive, she tries even harder, and in the end, the lesson is you can't be friends with everyone. Not everyone will like you, and that's okay. You gotta respect people's boundries and put your effort into people who want to be your friend. Nice! Now, this episode in season 3. In it, Rapunzel tries to become friends with Cass, she doesn't want to, Raps gets exceedingly pushy and starts rolling over her boundries, she get more aggressive, Raps tries even harder, and in the end, the lesson is Cass is being mean and should just let her walls down and Rapunzel in. HUH?!! What, we had to take back the 'people can not want to be friends with Rapunzel'? God forbid Rapunzel has people dislike her? Even worse Cass had to give up her golden ticket to get the life she wanted for someone who steamrolled over her boundries and disrespected her feelings. And this is a good thing?! Y'know what, I'm on Cass's side! She deserves to be mad! Ugh, and then the mid season finale. It starts with Cass storming in to issue her proclamation of war, and to prove she means business, she cuts the top of a tower of Rapunzel's fancy cake. Really, that's it? It's such a small thing, but Raps couldn't even lose a cake? No? That's too awful- she couldn't have to go without some cake? And then the cake is perfectly remade at the end- they didn't even have to make a new one! God forbid she had to have a smaller, less perfect cake. Again, it's such a petty thing, but it just sums up everything I feel about how the show will not force any kind of negative effect on Raps. She can't even lose a cake.
      And then their ultimate fight is a joke. Raps reads the scroll thing, becomes a god when it took Cass an entire half a season to figure out how to use her powers, and the fight is over in 5 seconds. Like wow. Way to kill any investment I had. Power scaling? What's that? It's like, I want to be on Cass's side. I want her to take down Raps. I don't like her either, and yet I can't, because Cass sucks. Why make someone a villain if they're just gonna be a terrible villain? On another note, Nothing Left to Lose just isn't that good of a song. After this episode, I was just so drained I quit watching.

    I wasn't expecting the show to be as good as it was. I watched after being spoiled everywhere about Cass' betrayal but I still enjoyed it. I was actually surprised you didn't have that much of a problem with the way was executed. Personally I think Cass had actual good reasons to turn on Rapz without becoming a villain, like being fed up with her impulsiveness after her hand got hurt and considering Rapunzel to not be an adequate successor to the crown, and enacting a coup. Like sure, manipulated by Santiri but having a more solid reason than "I'm always second to you".
    Also not mentioned, but there's a reason Sonnenberg didn't work further with Disney after how well received this was. Not only he got salty with the fandom because they obsessed over Varian, he also seems to have behaved inappropriately with the show's staff. And well, he was recently announced to start working on "non woke content" for Ben Shapiro's Daily Wire. So, yeah...

      @DragonGoddess18 Рік тому +16

      Cass never wanted to be Rapunzel's friend in the first place. Part of it was the power dynamic. Cass was the handmaiden to the princess,therefore Rapunzel was her boss and Cass was the employee,there was no equal footing between them in the first place. Plus, Rapunzel always imposed her opinions on Cass and publicly humiliated her more than once. Plus,her not giving Cass a real apology after burning her hand is beyond un-okay
      Chris Sonnenberg loved the idea of sisterhood but couldn't do that properly in the show. Rapunzel and Cass weren't sisters in the slightest. Cass was just forced along the ride and Rapunzel only cared about what she wanted, thinking everyone else wanted exactly what she wanted and anyone else who thought differently than her was wrong in her point of view

    I disagree with the show not setting up Cass' betrayal but I wonder how they could have done it better. I think Waiting in the Wings and her new armour was very much pushing her in that direction. The armour is symbolic of Cass puting her 'walls up' and becoming emotionally distant from Rapunzel and the festering had started. Also wanted to mention that not only did they bring back the entire cast of the film the brought back the composer ALAN FREAKING MENKEN. He has scored a LOT of the Disney Renaissance. He was the composer for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

    About her getting her hair back, I think it works well. Like, she finally got freedom. But she also didn't. The hair is the reason she went through everything in the first movie. Cutting it off, gave her freedom. So for her to then get it back and lose that freedom and kind of start to go through gothel 2.0, I think proposes something interesting to look at throughout the series. Like, she isn't letting it stop her this time. She isn't going to just only do what her dad says. She is taking her life back even when it seemed like her life took one big step backwards. And she really gets control of her hair and coexisting with it despite it seeming like she'd never be able to get rid of it (as well as the threats that would come with it.)

    Tangled the Series, For all of those who want to know what this is:
    Tangled the series is a Tv show that Aired a few years after Tangled the movie, this show is incredibly underrated right now but before mostly everyone was talking about it! It was the story that I think took place a few months/ a few weeks after the timeline of Tangled the movie, no it isn’t an alternative universe it’s cannon. So apparently Rapunzel’s magic hair grew back as it was before Eugene cut it, that’s why we see her normal hair. The story focuses on different things all leading to the same thing, Rapunzel and her friends getting character growth and down grades adventuring throughout the series. Now, I haven’t watched the whole show because I don’t have access to it but I do know some key parts( I won’t say because that’s spoilers!). That’s why I’m excited for this video! Thank goodness it’s on a Friday!!! Also Happy birthday 🎉 to the person who commented “It’s my Birthday the day this premiers! Best birthday gift ever!!”

    Unfortunately Disney did this A LOT in the mid 2010s to some of their underrated animated shows (did anyone remember that they made a Lion King midquel series? And that it was marketed for Disney Junior? And that it also got 3 seasons? I'd love to see more folks talk about that...).

    I loved getting to know the characters. Character development in a movie can be challenging, especially a kid's movie. Tangled the series gave the characters depth. The movie is more of a snapshot in time, there's growth. The downside is that a series can't last forever, there are only so many stories one can tell before the material coming out sounds absurd. Ending a series on a low note can damage a property. Disney stretched Rapunzel and Eugene's story as far as they could. I miss watching their adventures, sure, I can go back and watch the series over but Disney seems to always show the marriage as being the ending of a fairytale. Surely, there are adventures after marriage? Plus, we know that Raps and Eugene attended Elsa's coronation, how about some crossover misadventures?

    I adore tangled. It’s my favorite movie. When they announced the tv show I was so excited. But…it wasn’t very good. Not bad either, and had some very nice things in it, but it lacked consistency. The music was fantastic. I enjoyed the art style outside of the character design changes. But the story and pacing of the story felt like a teenagers tangled fanfiction. The world building was a far cry from the source material. In the movie rapunzels power is an extremely rare and precious gift in a mundane world. In tangled the series you can’t walk five feet without finding a world altering magical macguffin or a magical monster or mermaid or magician. And rapunzels goth power was cringe. Randomly making Eugene royalty was pointless and had ZERO effect on the story. That felt very fanfiction-like. Cassandra’s motivations towards the end of the series made very little sense and were definitely not earned. And the finale/main villain was boring and flat. Villains who want to destroy everything for no reason are so tedious. And small nitpick, but I don’t like the vocal direction here. It’s like they forgot what rapunzel sounded like. She was already an adult in the movie, why did her voice drop several octaves as if she just hit puberty?
    I really enjoyed a lot of the first season. It showed me what I was curious about, which was how the newly free rapunzel adjusted to living in a society. Touching on ptsd. Seeing and learning tons of new things. That was interesting. But it was bogged down by an overly ambitious, corny plot that wasn’t true to the source material.

    I'm almost certain Cassandra was written to be in love with Rapunzel but Disney wouldn't allow it.
    That's why she turns evil after Rapunzel proposes.
    And why her trigger word is "waiting".
    It's not just the whole thing with Gothel but the fact that she keeps waiting for Rapunzel to see Eugene as a crook like she sees him as.
    Listen to the song "This has to stop now"
    It's full of one sided romantic subtext.
    Like the fact that Rapunzel almost stops her but clearly doesn't say what she wanted her to say.
    Or even the line "And for us if we're over that's fine"
    When's the last time you said "We're over" to a friend?
    That phrasing is far more likely to come from a romantic relationship.

      The woman who designed Cass admitted to designing her to be queer-coded, and the show runner was totally okay with queerbaiting the audience with how he wrote Cass because she’s supposedly his favorite. Of course since it’s already set up in canon that Rapunzel married Eugene, the most the show could do was only hint at the romantic feelings in a way only certain viewers could catch on.

    To be fair to the decision of bringing Rapunzal’s hair back, they didn’t really use it like it used to be used. Cass embracing her dark heritage? No. Cass taking the moonstone? No.
    Eugene taking the moonstone? Maybe. Honestly I would have made Varian the prince of the dark kingdom because of that blue streak in his hair. Then he would take the stone.
    Ghost girl Zan Tiri? No, unless there was some foreshadowing or little hints beforehand in the background.
    A lot of the themes in the show just seemed muddled and confused to me.

    I really loved the Tangled series so much, I've watched it a bunch of times and listen to the soundtrack a lot! Only real criticisms I had were 1. Cass's betrayal and motivation for doing so were painfully stupid (but hey at least we got good songs out of it) and 2. I wish they'd done more with Varian. I genuinely thought he was gonna have some important significance with the moonstone (maybe be the person meant to have it's power like Rapunzel was meant to have the sundrop?) cause of the random blue stripe in his hair he apparently had even as a baby, the way he can't seem to help being so involved with the black rocks and them being particularly bad around where he lives, and then his dad actually being from the dark kingdom. Felt like they were foreshadowing something that didn't happen and I was kinda disappointed.
    But overall I absolutely adore the show! Wish they'd made that Varian spinoff that was pitched!

    • @Slightly_Obsessive
      @Slightly_Obsessive Рік тому +2

      I don’t think Cass’s villain arc was necessarily stupid, but I think it happened too soon. They were kinda building it up the whole show. Even in season 1 Cass felt overshadowed by Rapunzel. In season 2, everyone kept making her feel inferior and following Adira instead and all that. Then finding out that Gothel is actually her mother…However, I think that she would have held out a little longer. She was clearly tired of everyone making her feel second to Rapunzel (even Rapunzel herself, although not intentionally) and her own mother leaving her for Raps adds to it. The thing the writers messed up imo is her reaction to that. She knew that Gothel was an awful person and clearly left Raps with a lot of trauma, so why would she be mad and Rapunzel for that? It wasn’t her choice! I think they should have waited until like the middle of season 3 to really finish building up Cass’s reasons for betraying everyone, then give us that icing on the cake moment that finally forces her to snap. All of season 2 I was just kind of waiting for something dramatic to happen that would push Cass further to the edge, and then she turned all evil and I was super confused as to why lol.

    • @arielxlazarus
      @arielxlazarus Рік тому +1

      @@Slightly_Obsessive Eh, personally I don't even like the 'she felt second best' storyline either. Cass got mad about Rapunzel making her own decisions and not doing what she wanted, but Rapunzel is the future queen and Cass should be used to living in a monarchy by now. Maybe she just got a bit full of herself when Rapunzel was more inexperienced and needed a lot more help and guidance, but Raps always needed to be able to start taking charge and calling the shots. Idk, I just liked Cass's character in season one cause her jealousy felt more plausible and everything after that felt weirdly contrived.

    (i'm gonna ramble for a bit and i may not be correct about everything so bare with me, and if you want, check it out for yourself, it's really cool)
    it follows Varian traveling the other kingdoms and it's called "Varian and the Seven Kingdoms" which followed Varian at eighteen with his pet raccoon, a donkey his dad gave him, and three new characters he we meet in the other kingdoms, with all of them trying to find the enchanted library to find Varian's mom, Ulla using her journal that Varian's dad gave him, all while another character, Donella, is trying to stop them as the group is trying to collect totems from each kingdom to unlock the library
    Varian first meets Yong in his journey at the fire kingdom (or whatever it's name was supposed to be) who was a young boy who reminds Varian of a younger version of him...also Yong has a strange fascination with fireworks and explosions and uses those as his primary tools, then, there's Hugo, who steals the totem from Yong and Varian at one of the trails which Varian is not very pleased about, and we find out that Donella is like a adoptive mom for Hugo, and she instructs Hugo to watch over Varian and stop him, so Hugo, after some convincing and giving back the totem to Varian and Yong, gets into the group, and then at another kingdom (the sky or something i think?) we meet Nuru, a princess of the kingdom, who is really into astrology and becomes the group's main navigator.
    (this isn't scratching the surface of the plot, later on we meet Varian's cousins, and also near the end, Ulla, Varian's mom, possesses him since she's been stuck in the enchanted library and needs Varian to get out, but that would kill Varian....also Hugo and Varian kiss and become a couple which i'm happy about cause start off distrusting each other and being antagonistic to one another and slowly they start to trust each other and oh my god i love them so much)
    you can find a lot of cool fanart and fanfictions and also, actual character sheets for the characters before Disney scrapped it and also this person named Daniella Keiko Eyer who made a bunch of songs for Vat7k and i highly recommend at least listening to "Closer" cause that song is amazing in my opinion
    anyway, sorry for the ramble, and if some of the things i mentioned aren't fully correct, i'm still trying to figure out everything by whatever i can find since it's not technically a real show/comic/whatever it was meant to be cause Disney rejected it since they wanted the creators to swap out Varian for someone else and they refused since they wanted to keep Varian.
    i highly recommend at least checking out some stuff about Vat7k since it's really cool and continues on the story of tangled the series and it's just really cool! :D

    I like, ALMOST adore Cass' storyline. I feel like they ALMOST knocked it out of the park but never fully nailed down exactly what she's bitter about? And it's such a shame because i really do relate to a lot of her motives. She feels held back, she feels like every opportunity she won had to be bitterly fought for and finds herself best friends with a person who, from her perspective, pretty much had every advantage handed to her. It's implied that Cass had to wait years upon years just to be allowed to wield a sword even though she's clearly been qualified for a really long time. Of course Rapunzel is going to sound belittling when she has so little experience in the world compared to Cass and yet feels so comfortable in a role as leader she's been granted so quickly. Of course it's going to sting extra hard when she finds out her own mother even chose Rapunzel over her. Even if Rapunzel was also mistreated it still feels like something she stole from her. Abusive parents rarely feel 100% like a negative thing, of course she still felt like her mother cared for her. So yeah, it feels right for her, to me, to steal whatever destiny Rapunzel was working towards away from her. To cross a line and forge her own path without constantly asking permission from her mother or her adopted father or from royalty or whatever. I just think they fumbled forming a coherent motivation for her past that point. I HATED her ending, just fully being written out of the story, willingly taking a backseat to Rapunzel again. I think they should've yuri kissed.

    Great video! Nothing Left To Lose is hands down my favourite song of the series, and it's brainwormed me many times.

    personally, the biggest problem about TTS is that Rapunzel doesn't learn anything, her flaws aren't explored and every person she wronged goes far enough that they end up apologizing to her. She's rather selfish and by the time season two rolls around and she's told that she's part of a greater destiny she starts to disregard the people around her. You think she'd learn from Varian not to do that but time and time again she seems to barely care for her 'friends' outside of the surface immature level of friendship. In season Three when the nightmare rocks attack the town and give everyone their biggest fears, Rapunzel doesn't even notice how traumatic it might be for Varian to use the amber serum that trapped his father and when Varian tells her, Rapunzel gives him a blanket 'oh I feel the same way but you still have to save the town.' and no follow up to after that. In fact, Rapunzel before doesn't even know why Varian is so scared going as far as to tell him whatever the rocks show him isn't real, despite knowing all the terrible things that happened to Varian. This doesn't even go into the times she disregarded Cass's feelings and safety, heck she doesn't even want blame despite being the reason Cass burnt her hand, and instead of saying sorry to Cass, she wants Cass to apologize to her. What would that apology even look like? "I'm sorry that as your best friend and assigned bodyguard, I worried about your personal safety and tried to save you from a collapsing building while you were being possessed by magic that could potentially destroy the world and hurt myself saving your life?"
    At the end of the day, Rapunzel is a victim of abuse that as a result of being kept mentally childish and controlled, made her selfish, immature, hate control even when it's only her friends and family looking out for her, and disregards everyone around her for the sake of destiny. These are interesting flaws and I wished they explored them, instead of trying to justify rapunzel's behavior to make her the good guy. The good guy can have flaws and learn from their mistakes, you know how interesting it would be to have rapunzel recognize her own flaws and how her life under mother gothel affected her and grow from that. It could start after Varian went evil to give his arc more weight and show rapunzel start to learn from her own mistakes.
    TLDR Rapunzel doesn't need to be a perfect disney princess, she needs therapy

      yeah, i love rapunzel so much but its so annoying how, because the writers dont want to show that their perfect disney princess actually has flaws, she just ends up looking like a giant douche

      THANK YOU❤❤❤❤ This REALLY annoys me. Especially how she handled the situation with Cassandra. She tried to force Cassandra to talk about her feelings, but refused and refused to take them into consideration. It was only "YOU have to be okay with what I did", "I did the RIGHT thing", "You have to listen to ME!", "I'm the future queen, you have to be okay with MY decisions", etcetera. She could not even bother to say "I'm so sorry about your arm. I really should have listened to you.", or "Just because I won't always agree with you does not mean that I don't care", "It's my fault your arm hot permanently burned. I should have listened to you", "Just because we need Adira right now does not mean that I don't still trust you, you're still my bestie and unbiological big sister.", but instead she just completely ignored how Cassandra felt. Cassandra risked everything for Rapunzel and did everything in her power to keep her safe, but Raps completely ignored that. Raps even trusted Adira - a complete stranger - over Cassandra, her best friend, lady in waiting and body guard. When Eugene warned her about Cassandra, she really should have talked to Cassandra and apologized for real. Instead she took Cass for granted and completely ignored that she was a person in her own right with her own thoughts and feelings. Rapunzel became ignorant, shallow and even abused her powers as a princess.

      @@CrystalGoddess90It was Cassandra’s fault that she burned her arm tbh, Raps told her to run with the others when she was doing the spell and Cassandra grabbed her causing her arm to get burned, so it makes sense why Raps would be angry or wouldn’t apologize since she did tell her to run, but I do agree about the not talking bit and not being direct

      @@montserratmarroquin400 Cassandra's job and duty was to protect Rapunzel. She wasn't just her lady in waiting, she was a part of the royal guard and thereby also Rapunzel's body guard. Rapunzel shouldn't have chanted the evil song before Cassandra did anything.

    exactly exactly exactly, for both varian and cass there was ZERO build up for their change, cass especially. there was absolutely no reason for her to betray Rapunzel and continue to trust zahn zhan tiri again and again even after seeing her sabotage cass is just so unbelievable. I hate it but I like the show so I choose to believe it's just because zhan tiri is controlling her 😭
