She had kid adult vibes to me when I was a kid since she could like. Explore, and had a house and could bake and walk everything I never thought that hard into it tho ngl
She was like Dora, a kid that could do adult things like bake and travel long distances alone or with just some animal companions. What REALLY threw me off was Apple Dumplin.’ Do the fruit kids just spawn like cabbage patch kids? Was Strawberry at one point caring for a newborn all alone? Maybe they have accelerated lifespans, and that’s why the kids act older than they appear, and there’s no adults anywhere
Same 😂 Idk if I still have it but I colored In a coloring book so wrong with the colors and Im sure if I see those colors I’d be so mad at past me with how I am at making sure anything that is from media and set color schemes is colored the same way 😂
Pumpkins and gourds are actually berries! A good rule of thumb is that if they have many seeds inside, they’re berries, and if they only have one, they’re drupes. If they have seeds outside they’re accessory fruits iirc, so strawberries aren’t berries, they’re accessories.
@@Iputtheunctionalinfunctional apples are pommes, which are slightly different ad noir ember said, but idt there's many pommes out there, so I didn't think on mentioning them
*Fun Fact:* There was a pilot of a _Strawberry Shortcake_ reboot from 2017 that was originally going to be CGI, but it was later reworked into 2D in the 2021 series. Now, that 2017 SS pilot become part of the lost media.
The 2003 version hits so hard. It was my first introduction of Strawberry Shortcake🍓🍰 The 2009 one is also apart of my childhood and i loved it while it aired, but the 2003 one will forever hit hard for me, especially the theme song!✨
Come on, the 2009 theme is so good though. She's a berry bitty girl with berry big possibilities. That's the only part I remember, it's been 14 years. But the fact that I remember it at all after 14 years shows a lot.
I used to play the 2007 dvd on repeat. For years I've had the lyric "that girl's so sweet just like her name" (spanish version) popping up randomly in my head. It's way too catchy.
Did anyone else grow up with those early 2000s Strawberry Shortcake VHS tapes with the boxes that smelled like strawberries? I still have them and opening the box brings back so many memories
Yes! 🩷There were dvds at some point too, which I also ended up getting when I was little. Glad someone else remembers this! Now I want to dig through all my VHS tapes
I remember being upset when they changed Strawberry Shortcake to look more feminine. Having a tomboy-ish female lead was a breath of fresh air. Of course, tomboy dolls don't sell.
@@tulip811In fact I once had a cherry jam. I loved it, but I played with it like it was an action figure. One day my sister fought with me because I didn't want to wear the clothes she chose and she set the doll on fire. I was grounded because she said I did it and my mother didn't want to give me another one.
@@tulip811 this is new info... I thought everyone had one. I still have the big doll with her strawberry scented hair (which is now unfortunately matted because I played with it so much. 😭)
i grew up with the 2009 one and honestly i still go and rewatch it sometimes. i haven't actually seen the 2003 one but '09 will always be in my heart. plus the theme song is iconic.
I grew up with the 2009 one as well but became obsessed with the 2003 one I would watch old episodes and clips on my dads old computer on school nights lol
My favorite iteration of Strawberry shortcake was the one I grew up with, the 2003 version. My late grandmother got me into the franchise when I was a toddler and the show has stayed with me my entire life. Even as a 21 year old woman I find myself going back to Strawberry shortcake when I just need that feel good safe space I had as a child.
i’m also 21 and shocked to see so many growing up with the 2009 version! i remember when it came out hating it bc it looked so different! growing up with the 2003 scented dvd case was just 🤌🤌
@@kaitlynzuniga I had the strawberry shortcake 2003 version of the christmas special. The case AND DVD smelled like strawberries and oh my GOD it smelled so good
@@kaitlynzuniga haha, I absolutely hated it too. Not only did it look so different, but if I recall the one time I did watch it (first one) Strawberry Shortcake said that Berry Bitty City is the only home she's ever known, or something to that extent, which made me incredibly bitter. You can't just erase my childhood and pretend to be the same person!
I loved strawberry shortcake more than hello kitty I’m 16 now and still love strawberry shortcake I wanna dress up as one of the characters for Halloween
I always liked the 2003 version 1. Cause I grew up on it and 2. Cause the clothes they wore is so for “play” like they’re all in jeans or overalls, the whole world is built for play and is 100% a children’s world Their personalities, for the time, were really unique and they had great traits and whatnot. Like Ginger Snap being a mechanic and engineer, Rainbow Sorbet living on a boat and being a nomad and whatnot
Loveddddd Ginger Snap :( I want her back... They just replace her with the new "better" Lemon Meringue. I don't like new Merengue I have plans to go into cosmetology and do hair. I will say her personality after some research was kind eh.... Freaking love Blueberry Muffin and Orange Blossom. I am also a sensitive art kid ;v; (Sensitive not as in a mean way. Just I am somewhat emotional lol)
the 2003 and earlier eras are my favorite!! when they get more modern and away from the candyland world, i struggle to see it as the same character/world :( i remember not really seeing them as kids or teens, but like, Fruit Gjinkas as their own species without age! sorta like, fairies or something
I agree with you but they also cut many characters from the newer stuff and when I watched the 2012 and other stuff the world felt small I have episodes on DVD and my favorite one is call friends around the world. As the new characters are not just based on a food but different culture. Qnd I thought tat was cute and cool.
19:58 I really liked that they made raspberry mean again. Although i miss how she used to be just easy to annoy rather than truly mean. The 2003 movies had her be like that but she had a soft spot especially for lemon which I thought was cool.
I actually did a bunch of research on strawberry shortcake, and I thought I only watched the nightmare fuel 2009 3D animated version, but when I saw the clips from the 2003 show, a bunch of memories came back to me! I remember sitting in front of the tv watching hours of strawberry shortcake. I have memory issues which cause me to loose large chunks of my memory, and it’s so nice to remember another thing I’ve forgotten for so long. Thank you for restoring my childhood
I grew up with the 2003 and 2007 versions of Strawberry Shortcake! It was definitely one of my favorite shows as a kid and I still adore those versions of her (hence my username lol)
Strawberry Shortcake was fun, but Lemon Meringue was my GIRL in the earlier series. Alongside that, I’ve seen the 2021 series and love it a ton, remaining faithful to the source material, but taking it in a unique and fun way, paired with great music, animation full of character, and cool character interactions, and Berry in the Big City is a show I’ve watched with my brother thrice!
I grew up watching 2003 Strawberry Shortcake over and over again, seeing clips from the DVD I had made me feel so nostalgic! The DVD cases smelled like strawberries which was such a fun detail. I always thought of Strawberry and her friends as around the 8-12 range, she's old enough to take care of herself and her little sister all on her own while still being young enough for other kids to relate.
2003 peak. That version had such a good impact on me that anytime I see strawberry shortcake I cant help but think of the intro song. STRAW BA BA BA BA BUH BERRY ! x2 SHORTCAKE ! THAT GIRLS SO SWEET, JUST LIKE HER NAME !!! :musical_note: Oh and yes, Custard was a major comfort for me since everyone validated Custard for having issues and dissagreements- something I never got. I was also furious when they made pupcake green instead of blue. (Oh and I adore huckleberry and blossom) I remember there was this coloring/cook book and I would use it religiously as a child. Oh and yes, im 17 now.
I really loved the 2009 one when I was younger. There was something about the animation that was very…satisfying to me(?) even if it’s not that good looking back
Berry In The Big City is easily a fun show to watch with it's music, characters, being faithful to the franchise while also bringing some new things there and how fun this show can be. It always makes me smile on how great this show is on how I grew up with the 2003 series as a kid.
I agree! However, I do wish that they committed to the berry theme, they could’ve easily made the city super berry inspired and kept the nature aesthetic in an urban setting. However, I do admit I have so much fun watching the new generation.
I LOVED Strawberry Shortcake when I was little. I got lucky and won a Strawberry Shortcake bracelet, I wore that thing until it broke. Also, I know you were joking, but technically pumpkins ARE berries! So I agree, there should have been a pumpkin character.
I loved Strawberry Shortcake! The 2003 Strawberry Shortcake was my childhood! The minute I saw this video pop up in my notifications I immediately clicked!
This. The theme songs lives rent free in my brain. I was "too old" for all the other versions afterwards. It was super weird to see that it had kept going.
Wow, I remember the 2003 series. I remember a pink DVD (it smelled like strawberries if I remember correctly) of some of the episodes! I definitely was obsessed with the character designs growing up. Lol, maybe it’s part of the reason why I grew up to love fashion so much. Thanks for covering the history and reminding me of this!
Oh my god! Your memory is correct with the strawberry scented cd! I used to have the strawberry shortcake doll when I was younger with the cd in the box :😅
Strawberry shortcake was a big part of my childhood. I remember my parents bought me a dvd of all the episodes of the 2003 version as well as merchandise like stickers, doll, and a bag. I'm surprised that this show wasn't well known. For me, the 2003 version will always be the most iconic one since, it's close to home ❤ This show was so sweet and lighthearted that as a kid, it always brought me to a good mood whenever I watch it.
As a 2008 baby, 2009-20015 Strawberry Shortcake was my favourite thing ever, I have the fondest memories of watching it in the car headrest tv on roadtrips, the awesomely strong smelling dolls and their matching outfits, it's the best one for me
“You don’t really see a lot of shows nowadays that have a good in between of a good story and really focusing on that turn off your brain, have fun sort of feel. Cute characters in a cute world...without being boring.” YES!!! Thank you so much!!! This is what I’m waiting for!!!
Have you watched much of Berry in the Big City? I was apprehensive about the character design at first (was absolutely obsessed with Strawberry Shortcake when I was 5, in 2003) but when I actually gave the series a chance I LOVED it. Very much MLP also-funny-for-adults humour and vibe. They seem to be young adults maybe- they have full on businesses and live away from their parents? (I haven’t watched a ton so correct me if that lore is wrong lol) I also really love that Strawberry is a self-employed work from home girlie with a fluffy cat… like girl that’s me!!!! Anyway you should give it a chance if you haven’t 🥰
I haven’t watched big city just because I wasn’t super interested in what I was seeing and never saw anyone talk about it but mlp vibes are definitely something I like so I’ll actually check it out now
No, they are pretty much children/teenagers in the series. They do live with their parents, but it's normal in their world to have some kind of business (it was always like that in this franchise). I mean there are literal adults in the show, we know what they look like.
@@smart.but.stupid It's so funny when they drive the food trucks. Like, hello, little strawberry girl, you cannot even reach the rear view mirror, how do you have a driver's license?
Strawberry Shortcake is so nostalgic for me. I grew up watching the 2003 version and then later the 2009/13 one with my siblings. As a kid I had several Strawberry Shortcake toys, including a doll that would sign the Friendship Grows Like a Flower song. I think my biggest problem with the newer adaptations is that they’ve strayed away from what originally made the character. They’ve forgotten that she’s Strawberry *Shortcake*, not just Strawberry
I grew up with the 2003 version, and I always imagined her a bit older than me. So she was 8-10 in that version for me. Also 2003 Sour Grapes is iconic!!
This genuinly made me cry, 2003 Strawberry Shortcake is such a precious part of my childhood and everytime I see clips of it I get so emotional Q.Q Great video as always!!!
11:01 Ginger just roasted the pony with a "Snap" she solos 🔥🔥🔥🔥 She is an icon and a legend of the 2000s the franchise just have forgot about her and abandoned her in the dust PLEASE BRING HER BACK I BEG YOUUUUUU 😭🙏🏼
In case anyone was wondering, ss had dolls before the 90’s. They were made by the same people who made the ragdoll (which was previously mentioned in the video). And simply to flex, I literally have them all, including banana twirl
I don't know if you've already seen it, but if you want something else to watch with slice of life fantasy vibes, may I suggest the cartoon Hilda? My mom and I recently watched the first episode and trust me, the vibes are immaculate and cozy and you know, insert your adjective of choice here. The screenshots I've seen of the Moomin animated series also seem to fit that vibe, I haven't watched it myself yet though.
I can second that Hilda is a wonderful show. It has that 'magical world that would be neat to just exist in' vibe, while also having a bit more of the story-focused character stuff, more on the 'solvable through exploration and trying to understand stuff'. I particularly like that the show establishes layers of weirdness - like how in the city there is the 'normal weirdness', but then there's weird stuff that the city people don't believe or won't deal with, but Hilda is more used to, being originally from out of town, but then there's weirdness that even she's out of her depth with. It helps make the world feel more organic, because there does exist a 'normal' to these people, even if it's a very weird normal. :)
SEASON 2 SPOILERS I love Hilda but that one episode where they went to the Library and Frida become a witch instead of Hilda made me super angry cause I really wanted to see Hilda be a witch 😭
I grew up with the 2009 version. Never saw the 2003 one, didn’t even know it was a show. My first exposure to it was a Christmas book with the 2003 designs and I assumed THEY were the newer designs not the other way around 😂. I think I might still have my Ginger Snap figurine, she’s the only Strawberry Shortcake toy I have. Edit: I do still have Ginger Snap 😄
Still can’t believe after reading the book I went “I wanna see Ginger Snap and Angel Cake in the show” and found out years later that they were, but in an earlier version
Oh my gosh, I remember growing up and watching the Strawberry shortcake 2003 show when I was little. I also still have the music box of Strawberry shortcake to this day.
Man 2003 Strawberry was just so fun! My favorite thing was how the backgrounds look, every setting was just so creative and weirdly very well colored like paintings! It’s just fun to look at! (Oh also that theme song “Straw bababababaerry” bop!) 🍓 heck even my brother loved the show when back cause of how visually creative it is!
I remember borrowing a GBA game based on the show from a friend because I was fascinated with the fact that the game had an episode of the show on it. I also remember the game being decently fun. That and a McDonald's toy of her that smelled like strawberries.
This might be because I never watched the other versions but Berry bitty adventures made up quite a bit of my childhood! Maybe because I was so young, I got desensitized to the bad cgi but I remember loving that version. It was my comfort show, the one I'd watch during dinner or for a whole day after getting a splinter out. Idk but I could turn of my brain when I watched it and when I think of strawberry shortcake, I think of berry bitty adventures.
As someone who grew obsessed with the 2003 one like i would cry to my parents to buy dvds of it,I also watched the 2009 and I really loved it- I remember them having jobs was my favorite thing.I was somehow very invested in The Berry Bitty lore lmao and loved the show. At the time i was not weirded out by the cgi or the fact it was 3D, and up till today not really since i got used to it?? Love the video negative!
Ima be so real the 3D strawberry shortcake was my favorite show growing up. I always liked the art style and the fun aesthetic. I totally get that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's definitely mine lol.
I may have watched the 2003 version (it feels really familiar) but I definitely remember watching the 2009 version. The Hub channel was a big part of my childhood, Shezow, Sabrina Secrets of a Teenage Witch, Dan V.S., were all so good :)
As someone who absolutely thrives on campy villains, 2003 Sour Grapes was my EVERYTHING. Ugh, they did her so dirty. Fashion-wise, iconic, and she had sympathetic qualities. They allowed the Pieman to be an adult villain in the newest reboot, so how come they give her this?? 😔
The feeling of safety I get from rewatching Strawberry Shortcake, especially the 2003 version, it's unmatched. The Moonlight Mysteries episodes where they go camping and then go hiking through the woods and meet Blueberry Muffin is still my favorite episodes to this day. And no matter what version you watch, the songs all go so hard. It's a travesty what happened to the original artists, but I'm still grateful for these shows. Strawberry herself was my role model, and really helped shape me into who I am today. Have berry wonderful day, everyone! 💋🍓
I'd like the Purple Pie Man to return in a future Strawberry Shortcake series. Maybe as a Robbie Rotten type of villain who just wants to ruin everyone's day. And perhaps also have Raspberry Tart and Sour Grapes as his minions. Bumbling around like Team Rocket. And Orange Blossom, maybe theme her around orange cream popsicles in a future series.
I rewatched all the various SSC cartoons last summer, and that really hammered home to me that every version has its pros and cons. The 80s specials set the stage for all the versions to come and have a pretty good pedigree: the first three were written by the guy who wrote the Rankin/Bass Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and have songs by Flo & Eddie (same guys from The Turtles). The last three were one of Nelvana's earlier projects with songs by John Sebastian. Plus, Russi Taylor is *the* voice of Strawberry Shortcake. But the other characters didn't have a lot of, well, character. The first three specials at least gave the new characters something to do, but the last three treated them all as interchangeable. As you said, the 2003 version has that cozy feeling, and the character designs are great, but the animation was often not so great. My biggest gripe about the series, especially when it was coming out, is that the voice acting was done mostly by actual children, but without enough voice direction to make them sound good. The main cast got better as the series went on, but those first four specials are painful. Despite the unfortunate sameness of the character designs, Berry Bitty Adventures is my favorite version, partially because there are actual professional voice actors again, but mostly just because I like the writing more. And that they didn't try to cram in as many characters as possible, a flaw of both the 80s and 2003 version. The new characters added actually get to develop, and the characters already there didn't have to fade into the background to make way for the new ones. But the mid-2000s CG is definitely a detriment, though you do get used to it after a while. Berry in the Big City's biggest flaw is that each episode is only 4 minutes long. It's hard to really develop the characters in such a short time. It's other main flaw is that it's sometimes painfully obvious that it was made by people who worked on MLP (like how they turned Sour Grapes into a Maud clone). Other than that, this is a really solid SSC iteration. The characters are all pretty distinct, the animation is fun, the songs are good, and the episodes are able to do a lot with their short runtime (most of the time).
I mean... the Rudish Mickey shorts were usually 2-3 minutes. Yet, they are still enjoyable. I don't really mind cartoons becoming just mini shorts for only 2-6 minutes. Also, about the animation in the 2003 series, you probably know it's from DiC. A studio that is notorious for having stiff animation (mostly during its final years, 1996-2008).
The 2003 version of strawberry shortcake makes me remember of the 80's my little pony, trollz, bratz, girl focused media in general back in the 2000's that was more of a "hey this is a show that doesnt need a lot of brain power, just enjoy it", no over-arching plot, a life lesson hammered somewhere, pretty stuff everywhere and a lot of toys. It was a great time to be a no thoughts head empty child. Also the scene-emo sour grapes is peak character design.
I really like the big round hats and the big poofy dress and the overall soft round feeling of the greetings card versions that was so cute and got lost, well, almost immediately after the first redesign 😅 I mean I can understand why, but still 😔
I grew up with the CGI and I thought the animation looked sm better WHAT!!!! I remember singing the dmx or whatever at the end of the episodes with my sister, I wouldnt say it was my biggest obsession as a kid but it deffinitly has a realitivly special place in my heart
Really hope one day you’ll cover Ruby Gloom, the show that basically shaped my entire personality. I think it would be right up your alley. It very much has those feel good, wholesome comfy slice of life vibes, but more goth and Halloween-y. Pretty similar origins to Strawberry Shortcake too!
I grew up with the original strawberry shortcake. As I remember having her as a toy. I simply adored the custard cat that she came with. They smelled so good too. Although the one I am most familiar with for the animation is the 2009 version, as I rediscovered her as an adult at the time this was on. So this is my favourite version for this reason.
The 2003 strawberry shortcake was my first introduction. I had soooo many DVDs and all the cases were pink and always stood out on the shelf. My favorite episodes were the ones with the horses, please tell me I’m not the only one with the pony island song drilled into my head lol.
My grandpa died from cancer too, he was only in his 50’s. I was only 10 when he died, and what scares me is that I’m forgetting him. The older I get the fainter the memories become. And one day, I won’t have any memories of him left.
I don't remember much from Strawberry Shortcake but we have this DVD set. with two CD's I believe, and the CD's were scented with strawberry. A scratch and sniff. I wish I could see whatever reiteration that was, because that's all I remember and I remember absolutely loving it.
Fantasy/Fantastical Slice of Life is the best genre. Even superhero fandom has a big demand for slice of life but superheroes. So much fan work and love of scenes and stories that show what they are doing between missions.
The main thing I remember was that the 1980's dolls smelled sickeningly sweet that made entire rooms incredibly stinky. As a toy dealer, I can remember how highly collectible the dolls have been.
Berry in the Big City is alright, but i still wish we had an adaptation in the magical country/garden like the 2003 version. I have a lot of mixed feelings about the show but it's entertaining when i want something fun and colorful on that i don't have to pay too much attention to. I gotta say, i LOVE the strawberry beanie though, it's too cute. And her aunt has an ice cream sandwhich ottoman in her living room that i'm obsessed with (maybe i just like it when ordinary things are designed to look like food)
I grew up with the 2003 series too. Especially loved that one episode where the talking pony was kidnapped. And the one where her pets almost died from the cold or something.... I had special tastes as a kid.
Honey pie pony was the horse's name. Adventures in ice cream island and best pets yet were the names of the VHS tapes. I really liked get well adventure and seaberry beach party.
i grew up with the 2000s strawberry shortcake cartoon... but also the live action show my dear country did. yes, there is a LIVE ACTION STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE SHOW (or, as we know her, Frutillita) which aired in my home country, argentina. i have no idea if other latin american countries also got to see this but it was *a time*
While I didn’t watch a lot of it (only with my cousins) the 2003 Strawberry Shortcake and “The Strawberry Shake” dance song still remains in my head to this day o.o
I grew up with 2003 version. I remember having the VHS for it when I was a little girl. They did that thing where they scented the plastic. Little me sniffed that thing so many times. My favorite character was Custard the Cat.
Orange Blossom was my favorite character. I loved seeing a person of color when I was going to pwi’s for all my life- I even had a doll of her! Her everything from skin color to hair was like mine! I felt bad when they lightened her skin and took away the texture in some of those newer versions but I’m glad to see they gave it back. I wonder how my old doll is doing now…
Even though I grew up while the 2009 CGI Strawberry Shortcake was airing, I always preferred the 2003 version- the vibes created by its setting and its characters made it so much more interesting to me as a kid. They dropped so many characters that it didn't just feel like the 2009 show was a reboot- it felt like an entirely different property. Gingersnap and Peppermint Fizz were always my favourite characters, and I remember being devastated that they didn't get carried over.
I grew up with the 2009 version and I remember it looking so much better lmao. I also remember being OBSESSED with the designs even though you're right that they're all kind of same-y in terms of silhouette i LOVED each of the outfits on their own they were all so cute
I figured that 2003 Strawberry Shortcake was a kid but like 10 years old so on the edge of being a preteen. A comic/graphic novel series you might like that I've been reading my daughter Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson. It's a comic series that's in the style of Calvin and Hobbes in which Phoebe lives her everyday modern life with her best friend who is a unicorn called Marigold. It's basically a slice of life series with magic elements as in other magical creatures are very much around. Haven't read the whole series yet but the later novels do have the characters solve problems but it's not a big overall plot like Owl House or anything. I find it quite enjoyable when I want a comfort read.
I didn’t grow up with any of the shows, I only ever watched the 2006 movie “Strawberry Shortcake: The Sweet Dreams Movie”, which was one of those movies I watched over and over and over again as a child, yet the only parts I remember of the movie make it seem like an absolute fever dream, I haven’t rewatched it as an adult, so I don’t know if it’s as much of a fever dream as I remember it being.
A fun fact that I just remeber: In the latinoamerican dub, most character arent name after desserts but after the fruit they represent but adding the suffix "-ita" at the end to sound more little ans cute. Like instead of Strawberry Shortcake, you had Rosita Fresita/ Frutillita (I've some intros using both, though Rosita Fresita is the most iconic) Orange Blossom- Naranjita Blueberry Muffin- Morita Raspberry Tart- Frambuesita Funnily enough, Lemon Merengüe still was named after a dessert, which was "Pie de Limón"
2003 Strawberry Shortcake was 100% a tween (also this is my favorite iteration due to nostalgia) . She had so much responsibility. I loved it so much as a kid. Orange blossom was my favorite main character but I adored Strawberries friends from around the world and Blueberry muffin. 2015 was interesting The berrykins really threw me off when they were introduced and Raspberry not being a sporty girl and Plum not being smart was weird. But I really liked Sour Grape (and Sweet I guess) when she was introduced I mean sure she was different from the original but she was an icon. I wanted to be her. I had not seen the new one and I am so disappointed in the Sour Grapes design. The only thing I knew about before this video was that Vincent Tong (Kai’s VA) was Huck and they made Plum a boy again. I’m interested to see what they’ll do though.
Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse also randomly did confessional cutaways with no explination. This was closer to when that was a widely used trope but I think it was used really well. The whole show is phenomenal too, best Barbie media I said it watch it and prove me wrong. I think it works really well for kids shows cause it can make a lot of good jokes both kids, older kids and adults like. Only The Office kept the 'documentary ' shtick really going, Modern Family and Parks and Rec didn't, they just used the cinematography of zooming and shakey came and confessional cutaways for punchlines. And those are really good tools for comedy. Animated kids shows don't want to spend the time establishing a reason for a film crew when even if the kid's understand it they probably won't remember it (not that kids are dumb) but there's no cinematography cause it's animated so you just do cutaways, which are really easy to animate. I think it's a great tool and love to see it in kids stuff cause you know it made the writers chuckle.
I was with the 2003 strawberry shortcake iteration. That was my strawberry shortcake. I was well aware of the previous one as i kept seeing them in stores as merch, so they kind of became interchangeable to me. They were BOTH strawberry shortcake. I think my favorite character has to be 2003 Custard actually. I found her sassy and sarcastic nature to be funny.
The feeling of safety I get from rewatching Strawberry Shortcake, especially the 2003 version, is unmatched. 💋🍓 Edit: For the argument at 8:58, I believe it was the Sweet Dreams movie that Strawberry says, "I'm just a kid, you know?". And then in the 2007 S4 soft reboot, she's driving a car. Make of these as you will! XD

I am sorry love legend but you do want a house and money right 👍👍👍
I always kind of assumed the 2003 Strawberry Shortcake was a kid but never really thought about a specific age range.
I also kinda just assumed she was 6-8 in 2003 and was a preteen in the 2007 version but idk
She had kid adult vibes to me when I was a kid since she could like. Explore, and had a house and could bake and walk everything
I never thought that hard into it tho ngl
I always thought of her as older because she was taking care of a baby and 2 pets
I felt like she was around 10, and that Apple (her baby cousin/sister???) was like 2.

Pumpkins and gourds are actually berries! A good rule of thumb is that if they have many seeds inside, they’re berries, and if they only have one, they’re drupes. If they have seeds outside they’re accessory fruits iirc, so strawberries aren’t berries, they’re accessories.
So... an apple... is a berry?

*Fun Fact:* There was a pilot of a _Strawberry Shortcake_ reboot from 2017 that was originally going to be CGI, but it was later reworked into 2D in the 2021 series. Now, that 2017 SS pilot become part of the lost media.
Like 99% of pilots for things are lost media, it's not that special tbh. Which is unfortunate.

The 2003 version hits so hard. It was my first introduction of Strawberry Shortcake🍓🍰
The 2009 one is also apart of my childhood and i loved it while it aired, but the 2003 one will forever hit hard for me, especially the theme song!✨
YESSSS ME TOO❤❤❤❤
Come on, the 2009 theme is so good though. She's a berry bitty girl with berry big possibilities. That's the only part I remember, it's been 14 years. But the fact that I remember it at all after 14 years shows a lot.
I KNOW A GIRL, and there is no one sweeter
Me too.
OMG YES! Unfortunately I don't have the VHS anymore :'c
That was how I was introduced to the series!
I have the DVDs and they still have a scent❤
yeeeeesssssss
I remember being upset when they changed Strawberry Shortcake to look more feminine. Having a tomboy-ish female lead was a breath of fresh air. Of course, tomboy dolls don't sell.
Tomboy dolls DON’T SELL WELL, NOW I’M FINDING THIS OUT!!!
I DIDN’T KNOW TOMBOY DOLLS EXIST!!!
Dolls .... Don't sell. Everyone loves strawberry shortcake, no one has had her doll.
@@tulip811In fact I once had a cherry jam. I loved it, but I played with it like it was an action figure. One day my sister fought with me because I didn't want to wear the clothes she chose and she set the doll on fire. I was grounded because she said I did it and my mother didn't want to give me another one.

I don't understand what's good about the 2009 version.
but the theme song is the old song from 2003.. I also liked the 2009 one but y'all wont understand how the older one kicked in
I grew up with the 2009 one as well but became obsessed with the 2003 one I would watch old episodes and clips on my dads old computer on school nights lol
@@MetaKnight964 Very GOOD CGI ANIMATION! =D
Cause the clothes they wore is so for “play” like they’re all in jeans or overalls, the whole world is built for play and is 100% a children’s world
Their personalities, for the time, were really unique and they had great traits and whatnot. Like Ginger Snap being a mechanic and engineer, Rainbow Sorbet living on a boat and being a nomad and whatnot
Actually the 2nd Strawberry Shortcake series came out In 2002.
Ikrr
Loveddddd Ginger Snap :( I want her back... They just replace her with the new "better" Lemon Meringue. I don't like new Merengue I have plans to go into cosmetology and do hair. I will say her personality after some research was kind eh....
Freaking love Blueberry Muffin and Orange Blossom. I am also a sensitive art kid ;v; (Sensitive not as in a mean way. Just I am somewhat emotional lol)
the 2003 and earlier eras are my favorite!! when they get more modern and away from the candyland world, i struggle to see it as the same character/world :(
i remember not really seeing them as kids or teens, but like, Fruit Gjinkas as their own species without age! sorta like, fairies or something
I agree with you but they also cut many characters from the newer stuff and when I watched the 2012 and other stuff the world felt small I have episodes on DVD and my favorite one is call friends around the world. As the new characters are not just based on a food but different culture. Qnd I thought tat was cute and cool.
100% agree! I grew up on the 03 adaptation and recently really got into the earlier eras too. I just like the designs and world they live in ❤
19:58 I really liked that they made raspberry mean again. Although i miss how she used to be just easy to annoy rather than truly mean. The 2003 movies had her be like that but she had a soft spot especially for lemon which I thought was cool.
Raspberry was never mean so I don't know what you're on about.

@@insertusernamehere3173 why strawberry shortcake berry in the big city is on Netflix and UA-cam why ?
Yea
:musical_note:
Oh and yes, Custard was a major comfort for me since everyone validated Custard for having issues and dissagreements- something I never got.
I was also furious when they made pupcake green instead of blue. (Oh and I adore huckleberry and blossom)
I remember there was this coloring/cook book and I would use it religiously as a child.
Also, there’s canonically transgender and nonbinary characters!
To me I feel a vibe of the 2012 version of Littlest Pet Shop from this show.
NO ITS NOT ITS UGLY AND ITS RUINNING MY CHILDHOOD
I agree! However, I do wish that they committed to the berry theme, they could’ve easily made the city super berry inspired and kept the nature aesthetic in an urban setting. However, I do admit I have so much fun watching the new generation.
But this is a modern take based on the legendary G4 Ponyverse, right?
I LOVED Strawberry Shortcake when I was little. I got lucky and won a Strawberry Shortcake bracelet, I wore that thing until it broke. Also, I know you were joking, but technically pumpkins ARE berries! So I agree, there should have been a pumpkin character.

Oh my god! Your memory is correct with the strawberry scented cd! I used to have the strawberry shortcake doll when I was younger with the cd in the box :😅
Yeah it smelled like candy it was awesome !!
Very happy about your Nani (hope I spelled that right) for being open-minded about what shows you could enjoy and encouraging you to do the same.
My era was the 2009 one with the weird CG animation. I love it dearly and honestly I enjoyed the vibes the best.
As a 2008 baby, 2009-20015 Strawberry Shortcake was my favourite thing ever, I have the fondest memories of watching it in the car headrest tv on roadtrips, the awesomely strong smelling dolls and their matching outfits, it's the best one for me
2003 Strawberry Shortcake was beyond iconic, i owe her my obsession for strawberries and I wanted to eat their houses 🙏🏾

YES!!! Thank you so much!!! This is what I’m waiting for!!!
I suddenly remember owning one of the scented Orange Blossom toys as a kid... probably explains my fondness for citrus scents now lmao
Age in this franchise means nothing (I assume like late teens erly 20s)

She is an icon and a legend of the 2000s the franchise just have forgot about her and abandoned her in the dust PLEASE BRING HER BACK I BEG YOUUUUUU 😭🙏🏼
In case anyone was wondering, ss had dolls before the 90’s. They were made by the same people who made the ragdoll (which was previously mentioned in the video). And simply to flex, I literally have them all, including banana twirl
I feel like nobody talks about Strawberry Shortcake!! So grateful for this video chief, 2003 is genuinely top tier
SEASON 2 SPOILERS
I love Hilda but that one episode where they went to the Library and Frida become a witch instead of Hilda made me super angry cause I really wanted to see Hilda be a witch 😭
And season 3 is coming out soon!
Lemon Meringue has always been my favorite character, no matter the iteration. Although i love Raspberry Torte’s design in the 2021 show.
U just brought me back some childhood memories, I grew up with the 2009 version and remember being obsessed
I highly agree that the Berry in the Big City incarnation is very much like the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic of the entire franchise!
Ok but the story about Muriel actually touched my heart so much 🥺
Oh my gosh, I remember growing up and watching the Strawberry shortcake 2003 show when I was little.
I also still have the music box of Strawberry shortcake to this day.
I grew up on the 2009 version and absolutely loved it,I still love it now.
YESSS i have actually been thinking about this a lot recently; very excited to see your take on strawberry & co's evolution
I was introduced to Starwbarry Shortcake when I was 8 and I have always assumed she was between 8-10. Older child but not yet a tween
Please talk about Ruby Gloom!
It’s perfect for the Halloween season, plus it’s very cute!

Strawberry shortcake is my childhood. I grew up with the 2003 and 2009.
I was born during the 80s and saw all the classics.
I actually liked the 2003 animation. Also having many characters can be a good thing. Also I disagree about the 2009 version.
I'm guilty of growing up with the 2003 version. And I don't regret it. Because 🎶she's strawberry extorindiary!🎶 She's strawberry shortcake! ^^
Berry bitty is where all of my nostalgia comes from and I wish I could rewatch it. I recognized so many of the clips
I really like the big round hats and the big poofy dress and the overall soft round feeling of the greetings card versions that was so cute and got lost, well, almost immediately after the first redesign 😅 I mean I can understand why, but still 😔
I’m so glad I’m not the only one sad strawberry lost her soft roundeness.
I love the Purple Pie man from the 80s cartoon, he's just so over the top and funny like all cheesy 80s villains used to be. I miss that.
25:16 I am very sorry that happened, if he isn’t with us anymore than he is always watching over you, Rest in Peace 🫂💕
The 2003 strawberry shortcake was my first introduction. I had soooo many DVDs and all the cases were pink and always stood out on the shelf. My favorite episodes were the ones with the horses, please tell me I’m not the only one with the pony island song drilled into my head lol.
I remember watching the 03 version and I was so obsessed with it! 😊
I've been waiting on this video ever since I watched your channel
Strawberry Shortcake - The only well known doll line that will always smell nice.
(Unless you're not into things that are scented.)
The 2003/2009 version was always iconic imo 💚 it’s giving DVD flashbacks

While I didn’t watch a lot of it (only with my cousins) the 2003 Strawberry Shortcake and “The Strawberry Shake” dance song still remains in my head to this day o.o
I grew up with the 2009 version and let me just say, watching those clips unlocked so many memories
I still held on to my Strawberry Shortcake collector's doll. I don't know where the shoes went though.
I grew up with both the 2003 and 2009 versions and man, I was obsessed. I was even playing the PC flash games
A fun fact that I just remeber: In the latinoamerican dub, most character arent name after desserts but after the fruit they represent but adding the suffix "-ita" at the end to sound more little ans cute. Like instead of Strawberry Shortcake, you had Rosita Fresita/ Frutillita (I've some intros using both, though Rosita Fresita is the most iconic)
Orange Blossom- Naranjita
Blueberry Muffin- Morita
Raspberry Tart- Frambuesita
Funnily enough, Lemon Merengüe still was named after a dessert, which was "Pie de Limón"
Ooooh cool ❤
I haven't thought of Strawberry Shortcake in years and now two people I'm subbed to upload videos on the subject
I’m interested to see what they’ll do though.
there was such a movement to make characters from franchises with distinct styles,,, rounded. literally sanded down the edges
“LEMON THATS CAT FOOD”
“eh” *chomp*
Is literally amazing 10/10 highlight of the show
I was with the 2003 strawberry shortcake iteration.
I just realized that i grew up with the 2003 version, 2009 version, AND the 2015 version. Man, this show was my LIFE
The feeling of safety I get from rewatching Strawberry Shortcake, especially the 2003 version, is unmatched. 💋🍓
Edit: For the argument at 8:58, I believe it was the Sweet Dreams movie that Strawberry says, "I'm just a kid, you know?". And then in the 2007 S4 soft reboot, she's driving a car. Make of these as you will! XD
