    • @HollywoodCreeper

      Is it smarter to have a clip that is impossible to take off and reuse? ......freaking A. See Audi are the smart ones because this is to discourage angbody from doing any mechanic work on these cars outside of the dealer. It's another part number they can list to give you as a part that was needed to fix your car. I freaking hate that. More and more, we are pulled into a world where nobody can do anything to help themselves. People can just do like one almost meaningless puzzle piece and the real picture....life!......is lost. Everything is so complicated. Just making a freaking phone call is a head ache and expensive! So who's smarter? People today or back in the 70's? For crying out loud. I'm sick of it all.

    Also called Oetiker clamps. You can cut through the ear to get them apart. If it's on a metal barb fitting, you can grab the ear with a pliers and twist. You can also use a side cutters to grab the end instead of using a screwdriver.

      @@GearheadDaily It was a new one, I opened and closed it. There is no way to remove the nylon hose on the top of the Fuel Pump Assembly (I mean there are ways of course, but I can't get any information about it like for 2 weeks, fm/ what I conclude it is rather complicated procedure at least, or maybe done only by the manufacture). The newly installed clamp sits pretty sturdy on the hose. At least it sits much better then on another new assembly (not OEM) I got for any chance in addition to OEM I'm working on (someone put those small clamps on the central line (both ends, probably that central line is under most pressure) and you could rotate them, I tightened those as well). Now I think the right way to add those clamps would be to remove the other side fitting f/the hose (not on the top, but the opposite, which goes to the Fuel Filter e.g., put the small clamp on and put the fitting back on that end. But to remove that fitting and put it back you need to have a special machine (tool) ~ $350 Amazon. Thank you for you replay and attention to my question. MIke McC
      - I've got to agree on the K&N air filters. Only good to empty the wallet and populate the land fill. How people still fall into it, beats me! Even with the so called plastic looking "carbon". ;-)
      On the clamps I've got to disagree. Oetiker clamps do a much better job.
      Spring clamps on higher pressure applications are a hit and miss. They might hold or not. Particularly with these aftermarket silicone hoses that don't have the indent to properly seat/lock.
      Usually the user only find that out when under full boost in the middle of nowhere, most surely at night and under a rain storm... That Murphy "thing". LOL :-)
      Either case definitely using the proper tool for the job turn a nightmare into consistent use and reuse of those clamps.
      BTW in this video, the poor example with the screw driver I highly discourage. With the proper tool, it can be used to clip on or remove, without major head aches and leaving the clamps in perfectly usable condition.
      The example of the one I have, one side clip on. Turn it around and clip it off:

    Oetiker clamps is the name but much like Crescent wrench or Skil saw, , they've all become synonymous with a particular style of tool, instead of the original brand, they once represented.

  • @rvmenn

    There is even easier way to unclamp those. Just put a flat screwdriver in the clamp ear and twist the screwdriver. It loosens the whole clamp and the teeth come off easily.

    • @GearheadDaily
      @GearheadDaily  3 роки тому

      isn't that what i showed?

    • @rvmenn
      @rvmenn 3 роки тому

      @@GearheadDaily The screwdriver would be parallel to the hose. Put it in the ear of clamp (where the pliers tighten it), effectively enlarging the ear itself which loosens the whole clamp. The teeth release once there is no tension on them. I hope that explains it better.

    No offense intended young fellow, but those pliers you called "side cutters" are properly called diagonal cutter pliers. Side cutters have a cutter on the outside of the plier at the hinge and every one I own has that cutter on each side. Fencing pliers still come with a side cutter on each side, and of course lineman's pliers have side cutters on them too, though they are a lot harder to find in tool stores these days. Channel lock and Klein still make and sell them, or did a few years ago. I am sure there are others that sell them too.
    I have a brake bleeder pump that uses these clamps and I have had to change them too when a darn rat chewed the hose and I had to replace it. I used the diagonal cutter pliers to pull that end up you used the screwdriver on, and it worked well. I am told by a guy that uses these clamps at work that the company that designed the clamps also sells a tool to remove and install them; I was hoping you had it on this video. Good video all the same.

    Dont use Pinch Clamps. They are a PITA to remove and a PITA to install, plus you are likely to grate some skin off, or stab yourself with a greasy screwdriver in the process. Use a reusable quality clamp, like a Worm Gear type Hose Clamp and sell on ebay or recycle the Pinch Clamps. Better for you and better for the environment. Cheers.

      @GearheadDaily  6 років тому
