    When the GI comes off.....it's no longer Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu....it's Submission Wrestling at that point...

    My bjj coach once told me that what he teaches is catch wrestling, he told me that he just said he teaches bjj cause it's more marketable which made kinda sad ngl

    That isnt a scam. That is an adaption. Im not sure what you mean "they dont want to tell you," it is pretty common knowledge they train no gi. We already know wrestlers, that do mma, train mostly no gi. Why? Because it is no gi in the ring. You are not passing off some secret knowledge.

    I totally agree with what you are pointing out. They did the same thing with Judo. Which is where they got all of their Gi techniques. To this day they are still practicing old fashioned pre-Olympic, Judo Newaza. Pretty much all of the Brazilians that appeared in those early UFC's spent at least 6 months training under George Medhi, 8th Dan Judo, 8th Dan Aikido and one of the key developers of Brazilian Jujutsu. The Gracies tried to claim they trained him because he spent a small amount of time training under their father before spend many years in Japan at the elite Judo Universities.

    You know I've now watched a few of your videos over the past few weeks and I feel the need to tell you how refreshing it is to hear someone that truly exudes a love for combatives and/or martial arts. Extremely insightful and well thought out perspectives. Thank you for the thought provoking information.

    I think we just need to call “no gi”, submission grappling. I think it’s a totally different sport.

    How to recognize a wrestler the person who dominates the fight, but has zero submission skills.
    As a former Aki-jujutsu-ka, and now Judo player I can tell you Judo has a lot of wrestling in it, all the turnovers not involving the Gi are from wrestling. It's all wrestling but with different rules... YI grappling.

    This explains why I'm a purple belt that's been training and competing for 8 years. Yet I don't know how to do a double or single leg. I've never been taught any wresting at all. I've asked people to show me a few time's after class, but I still can't do it and wouldn't even try to. I know how to close the distance grab you and drag to the ground. using trips and and body folds. I have also learned a bunch of judo throws. I'd attempt a judo throw in street fight way before ever trying a single or double leg. I'm like how could you bee a bjj black belt and not know any judo throw's how???

    The gi vs no gi issue in bjj seems similar to Judo as well. I find wrestling more practical.

    I trained 4.5 years of submission wrestling with BJJ, Luta Livre, and Folkstyle athletes prior to BJJ with different level Judoka,Wrestlers, and BJJ athletes. I’d love to hear a conversation between you, Dr Rhadi Ferguson and Robert Drysdale. Keep sharing your perspectives💪🏾

    Having a wrestling background. Most tournaments say I have to register at a blue belt and I am a white belt. This is for both no GI and GI. So are schools matching what tournament use for wrestlers competing. I know if I compete at white or blue it's not about winning it is about the BJJ and learning through competing. I think it hurts my development if I plan on just wrestling the whole time during a match.

    Yeah, the Gracie fights before they came to the U.S.lasted hours with no restarts until someone tired out, gave up or was chocked out. The 1990s Gracies In Action video series showed some of these fights.
    Just out of curiosity, do you know anything about Uighur martial arts or Hui martial arts?

  • @CalCaliente
    @CalCaliente 7 місяців тому +12

    Sorry bro. Had to stop the video in the beginning. You trying to argue that leg locks are pointless? You are basically saying ignore 50% of the human body. Which is ridiculous from a logical standpoint.

    • @TheUmmahFightCamp
      @TheUmmahFightCamp  7 місяців тому +12

      @CalCaliente: It is idiotic to try to submit someone by attacking the strongest part of their body and call it self defense. Only someone who thinks real fights are staged on mats and in air conditioned studios would say otherwise. Leg locks are a waste and only for hobbyists. If you are not choking you are not serious. Period.

    Isn't this the evolution of styles? It might be something else in the future if revolutionised enough like how BJJ cane frim Judo and Judo from Jujutsu before it. I agree that to say you're a "black belt" in an art is acquire a complete understanding of the art up to that point then it's practising to perfect it as it appeals to you the individual.
    So in the case of bjj basically a player should be proficient in both ginand no gi to be considered a true black belt. With regards to using wrestling techniques for no gi, why not? Unless a player has loose fitting clothing then there's nothing to hold on to so there should be a way to hold on to the opponent. Didn't karate abd taekwondo borrow kicks from other styles to make it part of their respective portfolios?
    Not saying I didagree with what's been said in the video it just sounds like a kind of "purist" perspective leaving little room for evolution. On the one hand if it changes too much then it's no longer the art it started off as but in the other hand if it doesn't change enough it will get lost in the dust and basically be compared to Aikido.

    The Gracies had been training without gi since they were children... The fight only started when a black belt trained by a Gracie started teaching bjj in poor areas where people couldn't buy gi while the Gracies only taught in poor areas... So there was an internal fight that didn't make sense since people always trained without the gi. Please don't talk about something you didn't experience and didn't see, even Rickson trained and fought without the gi, he even advised Royce to take off the gi to fight in Japan. Rickson trained without the gi, he pulled guard, even in street fights he did the leglock. I repeat no-gi has ALWAYS existed and it has always been common to train without a gi in the summer in Rio de Janeiro because of the heat. We here in Brazil train with and without the gi.

      @alexcardoso4487: You are the main reason why ENGLISH should be required before commenting! Did you NOT listen to the video? I SAID RICKSON used BJJ without the GI! Get your head out of your backside and put your big boy underwear on! If you keep it up, I am going to hurt you feelings bu telling you people how you need top thank CARLSON and not HELIO! I may throw in how much was stolen from Catch. Next, time listen to the whole video.

    Interesting points made in the video however, a lot of the inside/ outside trips/ other takedowns can be argued are carried from judo. What are your thoughts on this point?

    Self defense is a 5 dollar pepper spray. People stopped using their limbs to fight LONG time ago. Trust me, no martial artist without a weapon has a chance with someone who has no training but holds a 5 dollar pepper spray. People do whatever sport or martial art they are doing because of competition or out of love. Just like Aikido, Kung fu and maybe other arts, nogi or gi "sport Jiu Jitsu" is a thing. Nobody cares about self defense aspect of it. Will it help? Maybe. But if someone has a machine gun and shooting up a place, I am not going to do jiu jitsu. I am going to run. AWAY. And leg locks are gold ;)

    Love your channel and your knowledge of grappling. Do you think that the fighters you mentioned do not practice in the gi because it’s harder than no gi? In my limited experience I find that no gi grappling is slightly easier because there are no handles for your opponent to control you with making submissions harder to come by. Others think gi is easier. What are your thoughts? Thank you.

FOR 12 YEARS I HAVE BEEN ON UA-cam AND NO ONE HAS BEEN MORE ACCURATE OR KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT MARTIAL ARTS! yet, NO ONE IS DOUBTED MORE.
