    4:00 These bikes have an accelerator pump in the carb that squirts a jet of fuel down into the intake when you twist the throttle. They'll normally fire right up when cold if you give it 2 throttle blips, choke it, and the DON"T TOUCH THE THROTTLE ANYMORE! Blipping the throttle like 20 times like that just flooded the bike and ruined any chance of it starting.

      Yeah, then the plug gets all wet and it's just too wet inside there over all. Usually let it stand for a moment or help it evaporate the gas off by taking the plug out for a while.

    51:09 for anyone watching who needs to know, those dished valves are Titanium. Ti valves are "soft" but have a hard coating/plating. When the plating wears through on the valve seat area, they sink into the valve seats quickly and need extremely frequent adjustments.
    Replace them immediately when their clearance gets tight.

    • @YouriCarma
      @YouriCarma 11 місяців тому +3

      Can they be replaced by steel ones then?

    • @mostlymotorized
      @mostlymotorized 11 місяців тому +9

      @@YouriCarma yes. But the springs are rated for the weight of the valve. As far as I know they're marked with a colored paint. So you would need the correct springs for heavier steel valves

    Hey your exhaust (silencer) on there, Pro Circuit T-4 Slip On. The Kawasaki KX 250 F and the Suzuki RM-Z 250 you’ve got here, always paired well with that particular exhaust system. A lot of guys would run the full kit for a couple horse power. The slip on didn’t provide as much but still a bit extra than stock. Not to mention a great sound 👍👍

    Nice job Joe. Good find in that crank. You got that press so just make you a crank trueing stand to balance it back out and rebuild it yourself. Once you do a few you'll see their really not that hard and you'll save yourself a lot of money on a hole crank in the long run unless you really need to replace one of the sides but a pin a bearing are cheap and easy to replace. 😉😉😉

    A little starting fluid {ether} and pop starting it {pushing and then popping the clutch while in gear} might have gotten it running. And if it was merely stuck rings, getting it running and warmed up would have unstuck them. Something to think about for future attempted starting iterations on unknown ring status.

I cannot get it to spark and I’m absolutely stumped. Timing is correct, new cdi, new stator, new rectifier, new (used) inhibitor box because it’s discontinued, new coil, spark plug, starter, key switch, kill switch and electric start module, and even a whole new wiring harness. I’ve done my best to check everything over, clean grounding surfaces and make sure it’s all good but I got nothing. If you can think of anything let me know. I love watching the vids as you do a very good job. Thanks

    Buying older 4 strokes is a risky business as they always have valve and cylinder issues and a proper rebuild always exceeds the value of the bike, especially that model, the cam lobes were in surprisingly good condition but you should replace the valves as mostlymotorized mentioned.

Have to say that is why I never got into race bikes they are made to run the snot out of them and most people do. Usually if its something simple someone is going to have already done it or they are going to pass it off.

    1 when you get a bike that’s been sitting always pull the air filter first make sure nothing is in intake boot .
    2 when you pull the carb pull the bottom to subframe bolts and muffler bolts and swing the subframe up to get it out.
    3 do leak down test instead of compression test.

    Joe brother, all that kick starting is going to come back and haunt you later down the line.
    As I own a bunch of bikes, quads, tractors.., I made my own spin start that uses the back tire in high gear to spin the engine(s) over, saving not only my feet and legs from later agony, but it's easier on the ole "family jewels" as well😊😅😂
    I think Amazon and Ebay Motors sell the spin starts as well; I often will use an Impact drill with a cog wheel to start the bikes.., also.
    Great video, and good seeing your "Master Mechanic" Vinny too.

    Dont overlook the head leaking compression via the valves not full seating. Tey lappkng the valves and filling head with gas when off to see if it leaks.

    If you unbolt the bottom bolts of the subframe and loosen the top you can flip the subframe/airbox up out of the way and have lots of room to get the carb out. You are welcome...

    These engines has to be properly warmed for the oil window to show you the true amount of oil. Ride it for couple of minutes before checking the window or you'll might end up over filling it when you thought you were running low.

    You might want to check the flywheel hasn’t slipped throwing the timing off. The engine seems to stop with a strange jerking.

      Lots of time on buyers market and being able to show up as soon as it pops up for sale. People with normal jobs gotta wait until a day off to go look and purchase a bike. By that time they are sold already.

    I'm gonna buy you a Motion Pro Leakdown tester. As you know just a comp tester does not tell you much. Leakdown will tell you everything right away where the issue is. Best money I ever spent like 10yrs ago. 9 out of 10 doctors recommend a leakdown tester over a comp test to save your kicker foot.
