MATCHBOX Restoration No.K7 Refuse Truck 1967
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- I managed to take two broken refuse trucks and make one that works. The other bits left over have been put away as spare parts. Today I learnt that the metals used by Matchbox seem to have varying tolerance to heat. Attempting to weld a repair, something which I have done before, resulted in the metal turning liquid and basically dissapearing! I had to learn a new method involving the use of solder with a lower melting point. I will have to showcase this new method in another video as I ended up not filming it because I was not sure that it would work.
A short documentary on the real thing:

This matchbox model represents the Shelvoke & Drewry T series Pakamatic refuse collector from the 1960's. The crew cab actually seats 7, 3 in the front and 4 in the rear which is a full width bench seat. I build & cutomise waste Industry equipment models. I've restored a few of these models and modified a couple with the high cab roof that most of these variants had (to allow crew to stand up in the cab) The low roof version didn't actually have the two vent grills either side of the radiator shown on the model but the design was obviously taken from the other prototype. Nice restoration Marty, Love the improvised tool for peening the body pivot, keep them coming! Oh yeah and the rear portion is the Hopper/tailgate assembly, and the round dome above the radiator grill in the centre of the windscreen is where you filled the coolant. On the real vehicles these were Chrome. The roundel in the centre of the radiator bears the letters SD, these were white on a red background. the spar down the centre of the radiator was body coloured. (Obviously matchbox simply did the easiest paintjob to apply)
WOW! My head almost split in half due to the smile on my face when i spotted this!!!!!!!!!
Another amazing restoration you've done Marty keep them coming
Great stuff, Marty. Very well narrated and satisfying to watch.
Another great restoration Marty!!!
Marty, how nice to watch someone allow their skills to grow and adapt. It is always a pleasure to see you master new techniques.
Drills come in two sizes,
Two big and two small.
I love the newspaper headline you picked LOL
“Pick it up as you go along” that took me far to long to get, and then made me laugh until they thought I was mad! Nice one Marty!
And good to see Kevin wearing his mask too!
King sized model with a KING SIZED restoration. Kudos, mate! You never fail to amaze and amuse. Must say, "I'm happy with that"!
Thank you very much!

I never get bored by your video’s! Once again a job well done. 🔝
Great. As always. The best matchbox restoration show in the world
Wow, thank you!
What an awesome restoration
One heck of a repair, just outstanding modeling!
G'day from Germany. I had this model as a child, too and it's nice to see it again in brandnew condition. That's another first-class job, mate, a lot of effort but worth it in the end.
Clearly, a thumbs-up for that. 👍🏼
And besides, I see the trash collectors in Australia work the same way they do here. 😂😂😂
(Just a joke 😁😜)
Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Cuxhaven to You, Julie, the team behind the scenes and of course the most "koalafied" garbage truck driver in Australia, KEVIN 🐨
😁👍🏼🇦🇺👋🏼🇩🇪👍🏼😁
Seriously watching this for the comedy as much as for the restorations 😂
looks better than new. always love the news paper articles
102% but it works perfectly! Marty you made my day!
Marty you did it again. Another great video and makeover. The little box on the side of the truck is a battery box. Thank you for keeping the yesteryear alive.
Hi Marty, very nice piece of work on the Shelvoke & Drewery refuse lorry, l loved the redesign on the rear tipping mechanism what a good idea !
Loved the video at the end, l thought when you put those last bags in the bin for Kevin to collect if it had been here they wouldn’t take, and l was right ha ha ! Conclusion is ALL bin men are trained to the same standards ha ha . Looking forward to the next video. Regards Tony Hawkridge.
Nice job restoring 👍🏻, I had this as a kid, if memory serves me right, mine was blue. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I think it was the small dennis 1-75 that had the blue cab
@@highpath4776 Cheers for the reply, after doing some research, I think I've found it (Vintage Budgie #274 Cast Refuse Garbage Waste Trash Truck).

Great little truck, fond memories 😃
Nice restoration and paint job 👌
We need more garbage trucks to clean up the streets 👍 Nice job repairing the vehicle by the way i approved :)
If you havent tried baking soda for blasting your parts, I highly recommend you do so. It wont remove details, but it will remove paint and leave a nice surface for painting. We use it at work for removing epoxy from delicate printing parts when they get worn out.
Have you had any training as a binman"
"you just pick it up as you go along" 😂
Great restoration Marty, it caused a few problems but turned out beautiful.
At first, it seemed this was a simple fit, but you used a lot of your experience to engineer a better model. I really like the results and enjoyed the tips for my modeling projects.
Nice to see Kevin being a responsible citizen. :)
I do enjoy the king sizes Marty. The engineering in these models is great
Nothing comes close anymore.
A very nice job! The rivet job was ingenious.
Nice to see Kevin gainfully employed. 👍
This is an amazing bit of work. Welding all the bits of metal together fascinates me. Also your voice helps me to sleep so thank you for that lol
Marty as I've said before, you are the master of your craft! As always it was nice to see Kevin up to his wankering ways. 🐨
Great looking bin lorry and with Kevin being so fussy it should stay nice.
Love watching your videos I wanted to do this when I was a kid
Garbage truck looks great! Love your videos!!
Very nicely done. I guess 1 of ur best restoration. Greets from The Netherlands.
34:55 Yep, that's what they tell you on your first day at dustman training. "You'll pick it up as you go along." 😂
Great job! I’ve always enjoyed your videos as well as being entertained by Kevin
You’re clearly a master restorer. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if you ever wanted to some custom work, though. No matter what, I’ll keep watching.
Hey, I have this one from when I was a kid and it is in great shape!! Loved this video!
Wow a sand blaster very handy!!! Beautiful work on that truck Marty love the red color
That back section is fiddly as heck. Beautiful work as always!
I have totally enjoyed each of your restorations since subscribing. You do a fine job breathing new life into potentially discarded models. And I've been inspired to attempt a few myself. Keep up the good work Marty!!!
Its 1:35AM here in Ontario, Canada I should be sleeping but must watch Marty Matchbox 😀
Another fabulous job Marty and great video. You need to give Kevin a serious talking to when his shift is over!
"Give it a quick tug' if you will..."
You, sir, owe me a new keyboard!
Fantastic restoration it looks awesome 👍👍😊
Beautiful restoration job. I had that one and the small one and loved that truck. Carried it all over the house with me.
13:08 When you walk through the magic door, your clothes automatically change. And at the end of the video... I've NEVER heard you talking about your mother before!
Marty’s Matchbox Midweek Makeover! Marvellous, Mate!
Great ....❤️ "Kim Ngan river barge craft" wishes you good health, and I hope you have many interesting initiatives💕❤️🥰
Congratulations! Nice restoring. I love trash trucks
I really appreciate that you leave in the difficulty and how you overcome it. If Kevin was collecting on my street, he would be leaving more of those damn overloaded bin notices than taking away rubbish! LOL.
Yeah, 3 workers on an 'Ash Cart'. One driver and two guys to run out and grab the bins. Totally amazing restoration!!
Another great restoration and no airbrush to clean! Thanks Marty.
Hi Marty love youre show. I used to play with match box cars when i was a kid ow maybe early 70s. And after watching youre show started collecting them again. I have (2) no. K7 I’m restoring and could use some decals if you still have them let me know how much i would owe you.Im a welder and a mechanic and i do restore first gen Toyota’s 4-runners for fun also. I have loads of Greek family in oozyland but have never made it there yet some day. Have a nice day from down here in Texas.
Charley, email me your address and I shall send a couple of sets out to you, no worries, Marty.
Marty, the next time you need to use the Muggy Weld and torch, try using an small alligator clamp on the part, so it acts as a heat sink to draw away the heat, in the hopes that it won't melt your part. You'll still have sufficient heat to melt the Muggy Weld and join the two parts. I use alligator clamps, when I'm soldering capacitors to potentiometers on my guitars and it works beautifully, preventing the capacitors from being damaged.
Right on brother, alloy heat sink clamps work like you said, my Dad used them when doing electronic repairs 🇦🇺😎👍
@@MetalMania3DTV-TAS-AUS My Dad was an electronics engineer with Westinghouse, that's how I learned.
I love the headline placement in the spray booth Marty.
Love that, great restoration. As for the plastic interior many of the 1-75 series with interiors also have the same construction of the dash and steering wheel folding back like that.
Folding allows transition from a more easily injection-moldable geometry to the final use geometry.
Looks awesome, Marty. I always like when You restore a complicated model. It’s so neat to see you take a model that’s destined for the bin, and make it look like new again.
I am glad to see Kevin wearing a mask!!!
Good job as usual.
Always a joy watching your restorations Marty. You have passion for your hobby👍😊👍❤
Great restoration and wonderful idea with the extra rivet! Great colors and detailing as always
One of your finest restorations, Marty! Brilliant work!
That’s a cool idea, using a large bolt as an anvil horn.
Great job Marty! A lot of work but a beautiful result. Glad to see Kevin is keeping safe even if he won't pick up your garbage.
You don't say bad words, do you? Turned out very nice, love the red.
Love the way he works. Gives it all he's got with every project. Very good perseverance
Marty... The Grindstone Cowboy!
Love the resto, and your choice of headlines is always brilliant!
Keep up to great work on the videos
One of your best turnarounds Marty.. Thoroughly enjoyed!
Thanks for another superb restoration, According to my friend from Jersey (old not New) the word you're searching for after the axle fail is "Bugger". Narragansett Bay
Love your work. I suffer from pulmonary fibrosis and because of you i have now started doing this. Only problem i do not have any old cars only new ones so I modify them a little with new paint. I did have a 4 x 4 from a few years back i midified. I added roof mounted spotlights. This may interest you i used old hearing aid batteries.
Thanks for helping with my anxiety and depression due to my illness.
Rick, Do you ever use ebay? There are a lot of older toys that could be restored there and many of them are inexpensive. Or garage sales or flea markets, I've seen a whole box of old toys that are beat up for a few dollars. Keep working on whatever you've got and remember it doesn't need to be perfect, if you like it and enjoy the process that's all that matters.
Beautiful restoration. Love how you draw us into the process. My son always gets excited when Kevin makes an appearance. 😁👍👍
Love it. Well done! Good to see Kevin wearing his mask! 😷
Awesome restoration, and a beautiful result. I think paintig the parts trash container prior to assembling would be much easier then painting it assembled. And Yes, Kevin is right this time! Grreetings from Germany to Down Under !
Yes As Marty added the black bags I was thinking they wouldn't take the rubbish in the UK. There was one old man in southern England who put a sauce bottle in the rubbish bin and they wouldn't empty the bin. Pleased I don't live there
Another great overhaul but the best bit/s other than the finished piece is the outtakes 😂
@22:13 -- Ah, that's the "moneymaker shot" for sure! Marty's Tabloid Press returns!
It really gets you in places you don't want to think about! 😅
The car restorers sometime use bi carbsoda as a sand blast medium it would be finer than the glass beads
I really enjoy the King Size castings. Very nicely done, Marty! ✨
Great job Marty! I had two of these trucks, one with the individual tires and the other with the Superfast wheels. I was also impressed with your creativity and work arounds to effect the repairs in this renovation.
My Grandpa Joe Scrham and I love your vids you do an amazing job
Turned out really great love watching ur videos where u have to repair damaged parts i find it fascinating to watch how you resolve the problems keep up the good work
I had the chassis/cab for one of these. I found it on some waste ground. What you started with was so much better than the one I had. Mine had been burnt. I didn't even know it was supposed to be red! It was perfect for the model scrapyard I had on my window ledge as a kid.
Hi Marty you took a rubbish truck and recycled it lol great job.🚚👍
There are tool and engineers tools. Live and learn :)
lot of patience also
Nice change of pace doing a king size Marty. Great job!
*Huge work on this almost trash die cast, you have renovated it from top to bottom! 👍*
Love your work Marty I still have old matchbox from I was younger keep up the great work
Beautiful job, Marty. It's now better than new.
Great video Marty - aha, Tamiya Mica Red, wondered which paint to use for my upcoming restoration.
Quite agree with the somewhat loose fixing method Matchbox originally used on the back collector back in the day.
Will drill out the left hand pin like you did and then opt for easy axles 2 or 3mm tube running through the inside and secure on the outside.
Not original I know but it will look good and work just fine.
All the best Marty
Hey awesome, I had the same when I was young!!! I might still have it somewhere in storage. Great restoration!!
When I was a kid, this was exactly the sort of dustcart (Shelvoke & Drewery, or 'S&D') that rolled up on Monday morning to empty our bins. Three blokes - a driver and two dustmen - I think there are no seats in the back, as the blokes would be in and out of the truck all the time, and possibly only sat whilst driving to and from the depot - who, unlike nowadays, would come into the back yard, pick up the bins, empty them, and then put them back where they came from. Nowadays, I've often had to walk up the street, and find my wheelie bin from amongst a clump of other ones.
I don't know what the back of the truck is called, although there is a possibility, that like a normal tipper or dump truck, the load area is known, here in the UK at least, as the 'Buck'.
And your finished model? A thing of beauty. Nice one.
A highlight in another wise dull day.😎
@@rossariotrimboli I thankyou. Haha
Encore une belle restauration ,super collection
Well done Marty, pushing the skill set there! Great result.
A FABULOUS restoration job!!.. Looks better than it did when it left the Lesney Factory!!... Keep up the great work Bud!!
They do that stateside as well. Kevin is everywhere. Cool truck!
Kudos for showing your defeats it helps just as much as all the successes...
Atleast for me ty I am in that boat you saved me an hour or 2
