I love how when Armin points out that Eren is a slave, Eren is genuinely pissed and offended. It's not because Eren is free. Eren indeed is a slave, he is a slave to his desire to protect the Eldian race, his friends and comrades and the Paradis Island. A huge part of Eren must hate himself, because he goes against his own ideals of being free. Armin just says that Eren is a slave in the heat of the moment but I love how much of an impact it has on Eren and reveals a glimpse of his true feelings for that split second.
You can't say that he's a 'slave' to his desire to accomplish freedom for paradise, you need to define what dose slave mean. Because the 'slave' eren is talking about that you can't chose your decision by your own self(they get pushed by the people around them or by the environment), not the desire.
If it was about the desire then LITERALLY everyone is a salve.

He lacks complete freedom of choice and operation because he can’t fully change destiny for himself and his friends without doing something drastic and undesirable.

Eren telling Mikasa and Armin that he hates people who aren't free is basically him telling them that he hates himself and the choices he makes. Eren is not free and the choices he makes aren't his own, he only does that because that's what he saw when he activated the founding titan during the award ceremony and because that is the will of Ymir.

It was shown that part of the memories Eren saw from the future were from Ymir(because eren never saw the kid he apologized to , die directly and only one who saw his death was ymir and the fact that it was shown Ymir is watching that scene confirms that cause why else would he only show ymir at that moment in same chapter eren says he has seen the kid’s death)
So it shows Ymir is the one who gave eren those memories and she is the one who has shown him a path he is forced to follow

Well honestly he saw what the future was going to be like, and choose to follow down that path since it would save his home&friends.
He could have chosen to escape or something, as in chapter 138, but that would be impossible because it's not in his personality.

Its not the outcome that people didn't like, it's the how the outcome was reached. We were completely convinced that Eren was making his own destiny at this point and he was doing it all because he is free, something that was always alluded to since s1, but we are suddenly told at the absolute final chapter that he was faking it all and he was just following the path that was laid out. This felt like cheap shock thing which wasn't foreshadowed in any way. He even had internal monologues that suggested he was fighting against destiny. The chills I got when his inner child screams "Freedom" in 131, but few chapters later he just shifts gear. It almost feels like another author wrote the ending.

I don't blame him for losing his way. Eren yearned for freedom by destroying the titans and reaching the seas. For him to learn that the sea, the very thing that represented what he wanted his entire life was pointless, he was... disappointed (manga readers know what I mean). But in all seriousness, all the hell he and his comrades endured felt like nothing and that it was just the beginning.
And Armin's insult about Eren being a slave brings back Kenny's statement about everyone being a slave to something.
He does not lose his way. It's who he always has been since he was born. Mikasa, Armin misunderstood this too. First he wanted to kill all titans because he viewed them as his enemies and the reason why he was not freed. When he reached the ocean and he saw the memories, he knew humanity is his enemy. The same goal. "If someone tries to take my freedom away... I won't hesitate to take theirs. Our father didn't make me that way. I have been like this since birth."

Eren is very strong both physically and mentally but the problem with being strong is that you don't have the right to fall apart or give up, no your role is to protect the weak, to protect the people you care about even if it means becoming a monster.

I cannot stress just how amazingly the aot characters are written. To have your main character transition seamlessly from 'angry protagonist' to 'basically the antagonist and apathetic mess he used to hate' is *not* easy. All of their relationships and arcs feel totally natural, and they feel like real people. Isayama is a genuis.

I'm convinced that he just told them this to push them away from himself so they won't get in his way. I love how both Eren and Armin are correct at the end. Eren is free in the end and doing this of his own choice, which is the end the legacy of the titans despite what his father or others want. But Armin is also correct in saying Eren is a slave because he's a slave to Titans, their power, and his father's legacy still. He's no longer a normal person, and truly forced to walk this path beyond his choice. Armins also correct in saying his "master" is a piece of shit, for obvious reasons if you've watched the show. The complexity and gray-ness of the right and wrong here is so good.
Eren was too complex of a man to be understood by common people. MY GOAT. Luffy,Eren,Lelouch and Naruto will always hold a special place in my heart.And,yeah i am quite satisfied with the how AOT ended.

when i first read chapter 139, i was disappointed. having the ending in mind and knowing who eren is now, i re-read the chapter and looked back at some important moments in aot such as those in this video, i feel like i finally understand isayama’s thought processes and i’m now more at peace with how the series ends.
eren emphasising he was free, getting so pissed at armin asking whether the freedom he wanted was to hurt mikasa, and armin saying that eren was a slave... their whole conversation now hits differently and i’m in pain😭

Eren Yeager is such a well written character, but seeing the hope falling apart in his eyes really touches me and it hurts, man. It really does..
I think the reaseon he was laughing when he heard about Sasha was because that's his was of coping. Some people laugh when they are extremely sad (like me) because they don't really know how to react/act, plus he's already so broken and really desensitized to death and just desensitized in gereral.

we as viewers are shown the pain on his face after we initially hear him laughing. just like at the end of season 2 when Hannes dies we get almost the exact same shot, his head is hung facing the ground and we get a shot from underneath, up at his face. In both scenes you can see the anguish there. the interesting thing is none of the characters saw that face, his head was hung and his long hair was covering his face, thats part of the reason why none of them understood.
he just saw the future and knew Sacha would died, and he knew she will say Meat so he did ask that to Connie and got this reaction: sad and nervous, like with Hannes's death.

If I remember correctly, in the manga when Armin says that, the next panel shows Erens face and he looks kinda sad which makes things even sadder, but then he gets mad again when Armin calls him a slave. In the anime however, Eren looks mad all the way through the scene.

He is one of those well written protagonists who would give up selfish desires for the sake of the world/humanity💔 it breaks my heart to see him broken from inside, having no other choice but to hurt yhe one’s he love the most😭

The poor man watched his Mom get eaten right infront of his eyes, his Dad gave him a whole lot of responsibility in his hands at a young age, got betrayed by his "friends" and now he felt like the world's safety and freedom is his responsibility, and in order to do that he has to hurt his loved ones... I want to give them all a hug t__t
