This is not last minute wait same thing happened here in Atlanta. Need to verify who they are before refund released but IRS has issues. They say do it on the phone via the letter would not let people do it, tell them to schedule an in person appointment none are available. So that is why it was packed because this was an open day to come without trying to make an appointment. The news people should have did better reporting. The IRS are sending these letters out 60 days late after people have filed.
The IRS is on some bull this year. Millions have been waiting for refunds past the 21 expected days including me. My taxes were accepted February 21 and still no updates on WMR nor letters from the IRS explaining the delays. I've called the IRS twice only for them to say there was a glitch and my refund information was held up in the error processing department. Give them until May 1 to fix the issue. I'm homeless now due to this delay and don't trust the IRS for any reason.....
That statement Ol’ Peggy released was absolute nonsense.. “…working to fully staff our offices, NEXT WEEK……!?” “……and adding more people to help on our phone lines!?” 😅 Glad to see the IRS is on the ball and coming up with such innovative solutions to address these glaring problems before tax season ends! 😂😂 No people were not there to file about 90% were there to TPP ID verify. Letters are taking over 60 days to reach people. This was the only walk-in date available in the region this month. If you try to schedule an appointment your wait is 45 days plus in Houston between the 4 locations. Most of these people have already filed they are trying to TPP verify or bring forms in for an amendment. It’s a problem for alot of people but they are filling it in that region because of understaffing and incompetence from the Houston locations. There’s a 10 day turnaround in Austin. My ex girlfriend had to verify in Denver she went to the walk-in today she was out in under a hour at the Broadway location in Denver CO. Houston just sucks.

They aren’t filing, most of them likely filed in February. The majority of the people there are getting flagged to ID verify (in person at the IRS) for no real reason. It’s been an issue for a few years now and seems to get worse every year.

Taxes are too difficult to do, so even though im due around $900 in refund, i wont even take the time to file. They can have my money.
