Reason why the Pan-India release didn't happen: The name of Mammootty's character was Kunjamon Potti, inspired by an actual person. The family of his descendants filed a case just before the release. The case was settled when the makers agreed to rename the character as Kodumon Potti. This was on the previous day of the release and they could dub it only in Malayalam by then. Telugu followed a week later and Tamil a week after that.

Also don't n't forgot about novels and weekly novel on MA publications. Vada yekshi, manthravatham , Pala maram , pana it is all part of our culture. One thing, though, mamootys character reminds me of Choorakkattu Bhattathiri from the novel Krishnaparunth

Mammokka never repeats same performance which we can see in his filmography from scene to scene over decades being a megastar.. Just His chicken eating in bhramayugam.. He's having fun out there acting at its peak

Excellent review! You spelled out the audience's reaction and involvement in the story telling. It's true that the movie doesn't have any jump scares. But does it need that at all? We (as a family) felt trapped till the end of the movie. The horror was within ourselves. The B&W cinematography added to that suffocation. By staying away from cheap commercial tactics, the movie makers created a masterpiece that we can cherish for ages.
I genuinely feel you should have watched it in theatres. The sound effect is one of the aspects which makes the film stand apart. Even in house full theatres one feels trapped and lonely.
One aspect of Bramayugam that doesn't get talked enough is its animation portion, which I thought was fantastic. If anything film industry is likely to produce a Miyazaki/Spiderverse type animation masterpiece from India then I'd wager that it would be Malayalam.

It is not Bramhayugam. It is Bhramayugam. The meanings are completely different. The first one refers to Bramha, the Hindu Deity. Bhramayugam refers to the age of Madness.

There is a bit of western influence. And that’s a good thing because they make it original despite being influenced by western movies. I felt Bramayugam was especially inspired by Dracula (the old one). A guest arrives at a remote palace of a lord who is a demon in disguise. A lot of scenes actually felt like it was an ode to the original Dracula movie
