  • Lynton and Lynmouth in North Devon, are two villages separated by the highest and steepest Cliff Railway in the world.
On this tour we explore Lynton which stands on top of the cliff and has a lovely array of shops and restaurants, a beautiful cliffside church and a cinema.
We then descend to Lynmouth which lies beneath Lynton. And explore the harbour, shops and take a very wet walk along the reiver towards Watersmeet.
Any trip to North Devon, must include a trip to Lynton & Lynmouth. To experience this Victorian seaside resort for your selves.

Another nice looking seaside town. Cute streets and shops glad you had a look early before the tourists. Nice cliff views beautiful Church. Fun train ride down the cliff railway. Looked steep 😮 Lynmouth Looked nice Clean beach ⛱️ The lookout tower good replica nicely built. Busy harbour. The flood sounded bad well explained Watto 👍 Expensive to visit the waterfall . Shame the rain came at least you both had it too yourselves. Nice seaside houses & memorial hall even a cinema. Thanks for showing us around Watto & Kim Good video 👍 Hope you both have a good weekend 👍

You sure did have a great day for a double exposure!! Top or bottom, front or back, heads or tails...both are quite amazing! Not sure about the Cliff Railway...I might just have to walk! Such a marvelously historic looking harbour! Must have been a sad and scary flood indeed! Oh my, the day really turned quickly...yikes...hail!! But there you have it, wait five minutes and the weather will change again...making me feel right at home! lol What a marvelous day it was!!

Looks like two fabulous villages to visit! The sped up down trip on the funicular had me worried for a moment - I thought you guys were descending much too fast! It was good that the sun popped out for a little while at least, but it sounds like the weather can get much worse. Loved the song! Very enjoyable tour all the same - great work Watto & Kim!

    I love Lynton!
Valley of the Rocks, the beautiful valley, waterfall, goats(!), stunning views from the churchyard, incredible town hall, and a very creative air to it.
I missed that old railway sign in the garden! Wow!
Thanks both for taking me back there again.

We always enjoy a visit there. I do think the £10 for the falls is way to expensive though. Don’t understand the greed of these places sometimes. Yes I was glad to spot the sign. A good piece of history.

What a gorgeous places to visit. And love the way you scoot from one to the other below. Awesome view while descending. Loved a lot of the architecture 'up top' before I forget to mention it. Steep streets I see. Great for the waistline if I may be so bold to mention it. I know it works for me. A gorgeous defense/ doubles at lighthouse tower? relic. Well kept. Oh fish and chips. Do you know I still haven't had a feed of fish and chips while Down Under. Shocking. One of my favourite treats. Terrible disaster- back in '52. They happened then and still happen now. Watto and Kim, 9 saw you sneaking off for some photos Kim) thanks for this delightful visit to Lyndon and Lynmouth. I even didn't mind the rain. Have a great weekend. 👌🙋‍♀🥝😎

Lyndon and Lynmouth look truly idyllic. Great hearing about the history and seeing the very steep funicular. Had its share of troubles with flooding and fish departing. Who would live near a river these days? That picture from 1952 is truly horrifying. Yay you got the rain too! And hail! Love the song ❤ nasty irresponsible dog owners! Superb tour guys and a great start to our weekend! 👍

    Morning Watto and Kim 😊
Both villages look great and definitely worth visiting.
Great views from the church yard
WOW water powered, we would have gone down on the funicular railway too.
Lovely little harbour, so sad to hear about the flood, that picture from 1952 shows how bad it must have been.
We agree £10 each to see the waterfalls is expensive
Shame it rained as you were walking along the river, love the song though 😂
It really winds us up too when people leave the bags or dont pick up after their dogs, gives dog owners a bad name. It's not that difficult to pick up after your dog
    Thanks for sharing
Hope you are both well and had a good weekend 😊

Always good to get an early start. These villages were both so unique and lovely. Love the cliff trolley that took you down to the other village at the bottom. Water powered is something I’ve never heard of before for a trolley. The flood was devastating for sure. Of course there had to be rain. Y’all have had a lot of that this year. WOW! That ocean view.

    • @WanderingwithWatto
      @WanderingwithWatto  8 місяців тому +1

Glad you enjoyed it. Yep we have a few Funicular railways over here. But this one is the highest and steepest in the world. Ingenious when you think how it works. Fill a tank on the top trolley until it is heavier than the one on the bottom and gravity does the rest. Empty the tank at the bottom and start again. The cables are just for braking. Soo much rain over here we are evolving webbed feet. Hope you have a great week. 👍🚶🏻‍♂️🚶🏻‍♀️

Hi Watto. Love the video. We drove past these little villages when we were travelling from Minehead. We really wish we had stopped now! Those funicular railways are fascinating - hard to believe it is just powered by water! We have a Welsh one in Aberystwyth but not sure how that is powered. It looks like there is more life in Lynmouth -, the floods must have been awful! Sorry it was so wet for you! Thanks for sharing Watto Elaine, Mike, Samuel and Thomas 😍😎👬

How did I fall so far behind, Watto and Kim? I'm so sorry and we're catching up now. What beautiful, colorful, quaint towns. Stunning coastal views and my type of wandering up and down hills! A path? What's that? 🤣🤣Not when there's a perfectly good historical train! Sad about the 52 flood history. The devastation looked terrible in the photo and the loss of life, tragic. On this Easter Sunday it looked pretty bad too. "Everywhere We Go" was lovely! 😁😁But the dog "bleep" not a pleasant find. We enjoyed the tour. But would have loved the fish and chips!

Places I have never heard of before but both really nice to visit, especially early, before all the crowds. Shame you could not get inside the church by fair play on Good Friday. Nice way to get up and down the steep cliff, I would not fancy a walk down and defo not a walk up! Loved that little harbour and nice to see the full sun too. Shame about those floods down there 1952 and what devastation it caused.....£10....pass! Opps, what did I say about full sun lol. Cheers Alan

Hey Watto and Kim, what a lovely looking place. Never heard of Lynton and Lynmouth so interested to see. Tits, peckers, boobies and tarts, ok, you’ve found our level now 😂😂. How stunning is the view from the churchyard??!!! Careful in those stocks Kim. That funicular railway looks incredible, we’d love to go on that. The Victorians had some great inventions. Stony but lovely beach. The fish suddenly disappeared? That’s weird!! Loving that little harbour area, so pretty. A chat with a couple from Chester, ah, lovely, Chester is only 20 mins from us. Nice weather…😂. If you’re not the Villa…😂😂. £10 for a waterfall? No ta, they should be free or at least a token gesture for maintenance. Pants weather there!! Nice singing 😂. Ah, you can see Wales on a good day…excellent!! We agree with you with the dog 💩 bags!!! The art and craft centre looks amazing. Mmm fish and chips!! We really enjoyed that both, top work x

The weather looked so good to start with but what a change down in Lynmouth. We have had all sorts of weather here but last time we had a brilliant circular walk in full sun. This is a great section of coast and a stop anywhere along here can be rewarding. You did a nice job presenting the towns and enjoying your visit. As for the plastic bag and its contents I find it so annoying on country trails to see people having collected the shit then placing the bag at the side of the path or even hanging from adjacent fences. Some people should just stick to sitting in front of the TV.
