Cozy fantasy rec: A Wizards Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher!
You should do a ‘guess the book by its first sentence’ challenge. Then if you can’t get it from the first sentence someone (Tom) should then also read out the last sentence and see if you can guess it from that!
Hi Meg! I've realised that you're the booktuber I've been watching the most lately! I've just been loving your vibe, your memes always put a smile on my face and I realised I trust your opinions on books so so much! I just wanted you to know that. Your videos are a source of happiness and comfort for me and I feel as if we were friends when I watch them (not in a creepy way lol, I just feel that's what you come across as on your videos).
Anyway, thank you so much for your content, it means a lot to me! Lots of love from Argentina 🥰
Edit: even though the heat here is terrible, here you go: ❄️ 😁
One cozy fantasy that I loved was The Flames Of Albiyon by Jen Menzies. It has dragons, sapphic, amazing friendships and a mystery.
A cat as a detective! That's amazing 😂
This was so much better than a standard haul, like hearing you rate the first sentence? It’s different. It’s spicy 🎉
for cosy fantasy recs i just finished reading the witch of edgehill series and loved it. it’s a cosy witch fantasy that’s also a cosy murder mystery about a witch who lives in a small town obsessed with cats and makes magic toys and occasionally she solves some murders. she also has a sister she is very close to. idk if you’d like it but it has a bunch of your buzzwords in it!
I love An Elderly Lady is Up to No Good!!!!! There’s a second book, too!!!
❄️ Okay, I’m going to have to read Legends and Lattes.
I got a copy of Legends & lattes too - im so excited to read it!
A great cozy urban fantasy series is by Ann Bishop's The Others series. I re read them all the time.
I know you’ll love legends and lattes! ❄️
I’m living for book hauls, and the fact that you’re rating the first lines…I just love it’s it’s such a great idea☺️
One thing that I've seen with the poetry I read is that I pretty much spiral down a rabbit hole when I try to read more into the poem. I try and research the author's main themes that they write about, see the time period and see if any major events could effect poetry from their part of the world. Then if I want to know more I go down the rabbit hole ❄ ❄ ❄
You will be surprised about what happens in the elderly woman book.... it is more than everyday happenings. It is unexpected for sure. LOL.
Absolutely thrown by you using that Only Connect meme, because I know that team in real life - the person singing is an old school friend. Really caught me off guard there.
I really need to give cozy fantasies a go, they seem so easy to read and like so much fun!! Also, can't wait to read The Last Housewives too omg In My Dreams was fantastic
ok legends and lattes is EVERYWHERE
I love the addition of eating first sentences so much! I don’t usually love hauls but this was so fun ❄️ ❄️ ❄️
I loved Daisy Darker. 🤷🏻♀️
It's a middle grade book but The Girl Who Drank the Moon definitely hits those cozy fantasy vibes.
Adore the first sentence rating!!! It would be interesting if you kept track and read your books from lowest to highest and compared with the overall rating lol ❄️
I’m obsessed with the cover for the Night Ship. It’s so stunning 😩
I enjoyed all good people here. I usually prefer the uk cover but I agree this is cover is better. I didn’t realize it was a thriller cover thing. I’m going to pay closer attention to thriller uk covers now.
I gave The Woman in the Library 5 stars!! I enjoyed the friendship dynamics and the Boston setting, and the mystery was good too!!
I'm all about the cost fantasy vibes right now! You should check out the SPFBO finalists because a few of them have that vibe. I'm currently reading and loving Small Miracles by Olivia Atwater and I would call it cozy!
Oh no! A Secret Behind The Bungalow not mentioned!!!
Pure joy to watch this. 💙💜❤️
I love the first sentence ranking! I’d love to see that I’m every haul or even in the TBR Cluedo. Also, I’ve only seen people enjoying Daisy Darker! It’s Liv’s only 5 star thriller of the year and Gabby is rereading it already.
Excited to see you read the woman in the library because I.. hated it 😅
The double take i did when you pulled up Poetry Unbound 😅😅 I love that podcast!
Check out Escaping the Aventine by Mads Hennen she is my cousin and just got her book published last year!!
If you love cat detectives let me recommend the cat who series by Lilian Jackson Braun or the Cat in the Stacks series by Miranda James
❄️
Can we get Book of the Month in the UK?
Ophelia After All isn't a romance. It's a coming of age type of story.
ophelia after all is queer but I disagree that its a romance! there is definitely romantic elements, but i feel like its primarily more about coming of age themes w/ a "messy" mc and navigating friendships (old and new) if that makes sense; i rly enjoyed it and gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars!
I personally probably wouldn't recommend An Elderly Lady is up to no good for binge-reading, because it's actually more of a collection of short stories and I think they might feela bit repetetive reading them back to back🤔 Maybe that's just me though. But overall there's so many interesting sounding books in here!
❄️❄️❄️
I loved The Woman in the Library and I also really liked Daisy Darker. Having read And Then There Were None I would say DD is a loose retelling of that. You should at least give it a try. ❄️
❄❄
First!!
People who prefer the US cover of The Woman in the Library are wrong
I love the US cover.
Not to spill the tea, but Ashley Flower's podcast had a plagiarism scandal so honestly would not have high hopes for the book unless there's a ghost writer :/
It’s the way she uses POC and LGBT people to make her videos funnier that just doesn’t sit right with me…
