      I have been thinking about that too. The transmission might have a problem though? After being in 4wd, it would slam really loud inside? It might be just the solenoid that pulls it in and out is bad?

    Good morning 🌞 Muskrat, I know a fella who lives in Vermont and he had a moose 🫎 dead in his pond. He got it out and drug off in the woods, then he butchered some chickens and turkeys and put all of the waste out on the moose. His trail camera showed that even though a coyote came by and checked it out, nothing has been eating any of the pile except ravens that ate the eyes of the moose. I’m sure that empty traps are discouraging, but those mountains sure are gorgeous. Thank you 🙏 for taking us on the walks through them. Have a wonderful day and watch your topknots my friends 👍💪🙌🙏🌈✌️🐽🐷🐖

    Good morning Gary,
    I believe Wolves act differently in different environments. Up here around Fort McMurray, there is so much oil activity going on. Those Wolves are totally used to equipment, the smell of people and fuels. I saw pictures that people took where they were sitting in their pickup truck, and Wolves walked out of the bush and walked past the truck, 6 feet away. The Wolves on my ranch aren't like that, but they do adapt to their environments. It's been 3 weeks now since I've seen those wolf tracks. They should be coming back through anytime, I would think.
    Have a good day my friend.

      Me too. They say it will sometimes spook wolves, but I haven't found that to be true? I use a lot more skunk for pine marten, and I've had a lot of wolf tracks at the base of the trees over the years. Where are you at? Do you trap for wolves? What do you think about it? Beaver castor doesn't carry as well in the cold, but seems to work well too.

    Mornin!beautifal sunrise!sounds like a good idea to me.and if anybody can do it,you can.like roger miller said,put your mind to it and do it do it do it.this mild winter hasnt really pushed game into wintering spots yet.they could be a little more spread out this year.i would think theres a couple not too far from that big herd of elk.i sure hope something crosses your line soon.its such big country.when you get your new toy done, you will be able to set more traps and check faster,increasing your odds.its hard to hide from people.most of em start hunting, trapping by following other people.too lazy to figure it out themselves.took me 35 years to find all my honey holes,then they came out with gps,google earth,specialized hunting apps.the technology is ruining what hunting and trapping used to be.not to mention people shooting game from over a thousand yards.none of that is hunting to me.sorry,im rambling.good luck and have a good day!

      Good Morning! I agree. All these Gadjits and gizmos are great, but it takes a lot of the skill out of things too. Those electronic callers.....anyone can push a button and sound great. I like the mouth calls that take practice and a little skill. I guess if the only goal is getting something, and it doesn't matter how, that's fine, but I'm not like that.

  • @terrystroble8657

    Long way to go to check a handful of empty traps. As long as you have to check, and have the extra iron, I would be making a new set or two when I had time. Can't catch nothing with traps in the back of the truck.
    I know you mostly enjoy the ride and exercise, but just make a few closer sets you can quick check from the road while rolling by with the binocs. Maybe stop and call/howl once in awhile, Maybe get a response back to atleast see if there are some....But maybe they don't vocalize much if there aren't many.
    Easy for me to say though. I have only trapped yotes and fox.

    • @MuskratOutdoors
      @MuskratOutdoors  3 дні тому +1

      Exactly! No wolves in my yard where most of my traps sit, unset! I think the pack I was hoping to get , has been got though. No tracks at all. Yesterday, I went with some friends and got over the top of the mountain.....no tracks of really anything. I'm betting if there are still wolves, they are closer to home, and not on the back side.

    There was a little Sno Cat left over from the Butte County Civil Defense, along with a camp trailer that was full of old radio and other gear, set up as a command post that the county put up for sale "at auction" on the down-low several years back. Had a little 170 cubic inch Ford six cylinder in 'er, the thing was built by Thiokol, so it waren't junk. I told the Sheriff that I'd go to $5,000+ on 'er, just lemme know when 'n where to be. Doncha know the thing sorta just disappeared, without much bein' said. That Sheriff was voted out an replaced by one of his deputies couple cycles back.
    I've a old 61 CJ5 frame and tub sans title, and a 3/4 ton GMC 14 bolt open differential axle, and my little brother an me have had the same notion bout a home built tracked outfit, but with 400 miles tween us, the logistics, well...
    Gotta ask, what is that sword yer flashin' round? Looks at first glance ta be an old Case or Western Bowie. Nice blade!
    The critters will come, or they wont, but dont give up.
    Merry Christmas!

    Boy if there's deer n fox there...there's gotta be good chance for wolves. I swell up on cats too. The track machine might need some power if you're gonna turn it via restricting 1 side. I could see a sharp turn killing a small single cylinder engine.

    • @MuskratOutdoors
      @MuskratOutdoors  3 дні тому +1

      It's pretty amazing the engines they are using. If you have the time, look up some of those Russian videos. Those guys are amazingly creative with the stuff they are making. The engines look much too small, but seem to work great. I think this wolf pack has been wiped out. More will move in, but probably not until next year. I need to go scouting for a new spot I think.

    I think you're not in the wildlife "zone" right now with the snow and weather conditions being what they are. Around my place (eastern Washington), the animals move throughout the winter based on snow conditions. Right now, the snow is almost non existent, so there are deer and coyotes everywhere. As the snow gets deeper and crustier, they seem to move into the darker timber. Of course, I'm not telling you anything you don't already know!
