She is probably the best singer ever. Mambo album is pure diamond
Not even sure I'd call her a singer. More of a performance artist, maybe.
@@jeffcolorado She sang operatic arias all over the world, then later jazz and pop for the next 60 years. She played Carnegie Hall and Lewisohn Stadium in New York, The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, Royal Albert Hall in London, The Lido in Paris, The Mikado in Japan, The Tchaikovsky Opera house in Russia, where she sang for 20 million people during her 6 month stay there.
@@jeffcolorado I think it's safe to categorise her as a singer, just in an unusual genre. Performance art is much wilder.

Aside from dimash she and him are the best singers ever
The sounds might not be familiar to you, but the sounds she emulates are sounds often heard in the Andes which makes sense considering where she was born and raised. She and Luzmila Carpio have talked about how their first teachers that taught them to sing were birds which isn't that surprising for many indigenous communities in the Andes.
Yma Sumac's voice is the best and spectacular genius voice of all times.
I'm surprised so few people heard about her.

Cont'd; Chuncho (The Jungle Creatures) was off one of her first one or two albums. These were mainly traditional Incan music. Her range of almost 5 octaves was unheard of at the time! The part where she goes very high and then comes down in a double voice trill was also completely unheard of. The reason I know it was 1950 was because when I was born, my Dad came into the hospital and said to my Mom, "You've got other this girl sing!"! This was before he asked if it was a girl or a boy! My mom told that story for years after! I still have the albums.
You have listened to a very unique artist, her songs are just amazing, her vocal range reached almost 6 octaves, just a miracle still today. Also, the reason of her fame was the fact of mixing genres as mambo, jazz, lyrical and peruvian native music. You just have to react to more Yma Sumac (it is pronunciated as "e-ma" Sumac) I recommend Gopher Mambo (her mostt famous theme) and Babalú (it talks about an african god).
Thanks so much for the info. I'm always pronouncing things wrong 🙏🏿 she is amazingly gifted

YMA SUMAC ES INCREIBLE
For the 50"s she was ahead, she singed from jaz to mambo, andes folklore etc
Simply and unique Yma Sumac. The best singer and soprano in the world. The Inca Princess !!!!! ...... Diva !
Chuncho it's the name of a Jungle Demon, this song represent the sounds and mistyc of Peruvian Amazon, for the ones have gone there, You can completely relate the experience to this song
Spend a few nights in the selva and you can't get Chuncho out of your head.
2:20 Yeah, that part sounds quite terrifying. 😨
Chuncho is one of the most unique and hard songs to interpret.
You're the best, chicken 👍🏽😍Great reaction
As strange as it may sound, she was uber-talented. I would say that 95% of people do not have the range, resonance, lightning fast vibrato that she possessed. She was a true talent of her time. I appreciate you that you took the time to watch and analyze this. Apparently the song title translates to forest creatures. So, she's singing and, at the same time, she is communicating to animals. Read up on her a little bit and take another listen. By the way, there is another video clip where she harmonizes with a flute that's pretty cool. Peace!
La mejor del mundo voz prodigiosa
You're the best, chicken. Great reaction👍🏽😍😀
Thank you so much 🙏🏿
She is perfect
Nice to see you branchin out.
There's all kinds of mashed up here, mixin opera with culture practice singin.
Theres all kinds of it through history of blues and the like. Some of the rythm and melodies were borrowed from indigenous songs....when they studied the original songs, they found out they were an acoustic map of the home territory... The high note to low, with the pace and pattern was drawing a picture of the surroundings with the voice.
The genius of that makes it worth hearing things I would have ignorantly giggled about as a kid.....happy sunday sir!
Happy Sunday. I think I might start posting from the random request list on Sundays.
@@ChickenReaction that'd be awesome, there's a wild range of weird wonderful shit out there, I am here for it!
Throw you a request for it, there was an indigenous group up here in Canada: A Tribe Called Red.
I dont know if you heard of them, they not together anymore, but the catalog is good. Indigenous mix of rap, edm, reggae, you name it. Even if you dont react to it, hope you enjoy the look
@@mikek8729 🙏🏿
@@mikek8729 interesting ok I'll look into it. For sure atleast one reaction. If I can listen to Nick Nittoli... sike let me stop but yeah I'll check em out. Thanks
SI HUBIERA UN CONCURSO ENTRE LOS CANTANTES DE LOS PLANETAS ELLA SERIA LA MEJOR REPRESENTANTE DEL PLANETA TIERRA ,. ELLA FUE Y SERÁ LA MEJOR A NIVEL MUNDIAL. Y ME SIENTO ORGULLOSA DE SER PERUANA .
yma Sumac was listed as a soprano sfogato. But she never studied singing. She used the sounds of the mountains of Peru and created a vocal technique. He had a very wide voice and could sing in the same tone as the birds. Thank you very much for reacting to it, it is not so well known for being from the 50s.
I leave you some videos that I made of her, there she shows a little what she was capable of achieving with her voice:

Check out her singing in the 1954 pre-Indiana Jones film "Secret of the Incas", with Charleton Heston.
Yma was a freak of nature!

Yma (Eema for pronunciation) Sumac was discovered in 1950 in South America by producer Moises Vivancio who later became her husband. Her voice is untrained. She spent her time as a young girl imitating the sounds around her in the jungles. She had a range of almost 5 octaves which was unheard of at the time. Her husband ended up commercializing her talent and made several albums of Mambo, and Latin music. Except for one or perhaps two albums of traditional Incan music, the rest were all what could be called Latin dance music at the time. Chuncho (The Jungle Creature
talent!

she is the spirit of the jungle in the video
Thank you for reacting to this beautiful and talented diva from Peru to the world.💅🎵🐦
That high note was head voice and it was a C#7
La mejor cantante su voz muy prodigiosa, toda una Diva grande Yma Sumac.
Are you even a musician? I'm not, but even I can understand that she has an unbelievable vocal range; that the deep sounds she makes are deep even for a man; and that you say it didn't ho well for you just shows how poor your understanding of music is. She is acclaimed as the best voice ever by critics from all over the world, and all you can say is that? How sad for you.
Wow
Vamo pa' chincha familia...
Love you Yma

Parce este man no sabe nada de la vida ni de la música si se atreve a referirse tan despectivamente de Yma... Definitivamente quien no conoce a Dios a cualquier santo le reza.

"Yma" is pronounced like Eee-mah.
hello there if you want to hear a fun songs from her there is gopher mambo and malambo no 1 drag shows were using this songs many times ciao bello
Ee-muh/ Soo-mak
Awful reaction you definitely got no ears for this #period
Thanks for the feedback #iloveyou
No tienes oido guey😂😂😂
