Just casually clicked on the video out of curiosity to watch some old formulas racing in Bathurst and man I couldn't take my eyes out of the video during the race. This was more intense than actual races. Really liked how you comment all the action.
Richie Axelson: confirmed honorary Australian!! And that was just for the pass on Jim Clark at the Dipper. And just for the record, I want F1 at Bathurst!!
For me, that was definitely the best race of the entire championship. I was going to just watch a few minutes while I was having a tea-break and come back to it later but it was so exciting I watched it all! Brilliant stuff - can't wait for the next championship to begin!
What a delight to see this circuit - brings back fond childhood memories of watching the Hardie Ferodo 1000 in the late 1970s, and the ground breaking in-car camera view we saw for the first time in '79.
Thank you, Jake for doing a round at Mt Panorama. I live only a one hour drive away from this iconic circuit, and have been going there regularly since the mid 1970s and have been involved with brother doing tow truck recovery at the 1000s for several years. Infact, i was there on the weekend with my cousin Dean who competed in the NSW Hill Climb Championship in his Gould GR55B. He won the round. Infact, in that hill climb section, that goes from the hump on Mountain straight up to McPhillamy, He is quicker than the Supercars and the 12 Hour cars. On the Saturday, the run reverse direction from the kink in Conrod Straight just below Forrest Elbow back up to Skyline. The quickest lap time around there currently is the new Brabham BT62 with an unofficial time at a 12hour meet a year or two ago. When the track was originally constructed in the mid 1930s they ran the circuit clockwise. but they soon switched to it's current anti-clockwise direction because the afternoon sun would blind the drivers as the ascended up the Esses. Hense, why the pits are on the wrong side of the track for saloon drivers to signal to their crews. ( Australia is right-hand drive) For anyone taking holiday in Australia, a trip to the circuit is a recommended must see. The track is an open public road, so i there is a constant pilgrimage of fans who come to see it in the flesh and just simple a cruise a few laps around the scenic circuit. This version of the GPL track mod does however suffer from a few in inaccuracies with the track profile from the real track. It is apparent to me, that it has been constructed using telecast video and photos as a reference, which can distort perception, as some sections of crests and drop offs and inclines going across the mountain are a bit more acute and pronounced in the real world track. On a TV broadcast, the exit of Forrest Elbow appears to level off, it doesn't. It infact continues to descend all the way to the sump of that gully. Anyone who has driven a modern laser scanned version of the circuit will spot these foibles. Anyhow, I love that Conrod Straight is represented in it's original pre- Chase form, with no forgiveness at Murray's Corner. Great driving and commentary Jake, and congrats on securing the 1966 Tasman Series title. :)
Your recent video was called like racing in a hollywood movie This is like watching one! What a race! heck of an ending to the Tasman series!! congrats Richie! :P
I remember in 1998 when I was playing this game, I couldn't believe how beautiful it looks, driving physics is very good, it's nice that I found this movie, I like to return to old titles. Thanks for that.
What a race. It is a real shame that the Tasman Series didn't actually run here in period, though Brabham did run one of his Repco Tasman cars at the Easter meeting in 68 or 69.
oh man, that was just so so so good to watch. Well done and congratulations. I’ll send a link to my good friend David Brabham - I’m sure he will be thrilled to watch!
I'm still staggered that I recognised the track from your 7 second video. I know I can recognise single corners easily, but a straight? Ack. So surprised you got by him you spun. I've done it a million times. Fingers crossed you get back to them. (paused to type this). Wow got back to them in a real hurry. GREAT final pass too. All on the line and got it done. Grats!
G'day mate from Newcastle NSW Australia, my only criticism is that it's called CONROD not comrade straight. Otherwise brilliant driving especially not hitting anything 👍 and it looked like fun to try.
What a fight with Clark that was thrilling! Great show Jake... I mean Richie! P1 in the championship. I'm sure that sooner our later a decent sucessor for GPL Will come out the community deserves it! Perhaps Reiza studios with be the right people for such release. Greets! 👍
Fabulous driving... most non GPL people will never understand how demanding GPL is.. I was exhausted driving a 7 la Monza rac.. let alone this best circuit in the world Bathurst
Amazing as always best racing channel on UA-cam! Would love to see you on SRS, sim racing system in Assetto Corsa, it's like iracing but free, there's 3 classic series going on.
Hell corner got its name for a tree stump that used to be right on the apex of the corner. Motor bike riders leaning into the corner ran the risk of leaving their brains splattered all over the mountain
Good fun, but you got the points system wrong though. The one you are using is from the 1964 Tasman Cup. In 1966 drivers could count their best three results out of any of the four races held in each of the two countries. The two national Grand Prix races (Pukekohe and Lakeside) no longer had to be one of those three results. Doesn't change the outcome : Richie beats Jimmy 35-30, JYS can count all his 25 points but is still P3 and Dickie all his 12 but is still P9.
Hey man sim racing system is having a race series with jim Clarks lotus on old track sunday and Saturday. Today is a race as well give it a go would love to see you take part in it
Forza UA-camr: OG BAAAAAthurst 🐐 Me: You may beat me on modern track. but. can you beat me on the OG circuit? cuz I hope like sliding through the curves.
The cutting is wrong, between turns 3 and 4 the right side of the circuit is down hill, not a wall of dirt. The dipper looks too steep, the top of the mountain has too few trees, the edge of conrod straight is also not an embankment and the mount panorama sign under skyline did not exist back then.
@@GPLaps just mentioning it, Bathurst is just the circuit that i know the history so well, and for a 2001 mod, before street view, before all the resources that we have now to recreate the track.
"All I've got to do is: Beat Jim Clark!"
Between 1962 and 1968 the best strategy to win races and championchips! *gg*
Eh eh undoubtedly!

Best track in the world.
Coffee + GPLaps. No better way to start a Sunday!
For real I just moved out together with my fiancé and I'm literally looking forward to this
Just Yup...☕🏁
Richie Axelson: confirmed honorary Australian!! And that was just for the pass on Jim Clark at the Dipper.

As an aussie, yes I agree. F1 at Bathurst please.
Would still make a more suitable gp track than monaco.
Your "ohhwaaah" when something scary happens is legendary
Jim Clark obviously hit a Roo as is tradition at the Mountain.
You don't know how long I've been waiting for this!
For me, that was definitely the best race of the entire championship. I was going to just watch a few minutes while I was having a tea-break and come back to it later but it was so exciting I watched it all! Brilliant stuff - can't wait for the next championship to begin!

When you went deep and passed Clark I got so excited. Was like watching actual F1

Great driving and commentary Jake, and congrats on securing the 1966 Tasman Series title. :)
Wow! That was insane battling with Clark. Very entertaining. Congratulations to Richie 😂
Congrats to Richie on winning the Tasman Championship for Drivers! Keep up the good work and may the best racer be World Champion! :D
No TV replay of the sideways "I can see the pub from here!" moment?
Well done. Seriously, well done. The roleplaying aspect here really does add to what is already enjoyable to watch.
Your recent video was called like racing in a hollywood movie

What a beautiful track to race on! great pass on Clark took his breath away and didn't recover 😜
Mate that was some exciting racing, great video 👍
Never seen old Bathurst, so, this is great, thanks!
Love this era. Good race, this is the reason "I" love GPL.

Excellent race and finish. Congratulations Richie Axelson race win and championship.
Bathurst is a very challenging track, those quick turns at that sector are so tough! Great video!
What an amazing race! The somewhat mercurial Axelson means business as the main season gets underway.
More exciting than real F1! Can't wait for the main season to start!
right on my birthday! sick to see my local track like this
Great video and a really exciting ending to the Tasman series.
Dude, these videos are fantastic. You talk the history and everything. Great work man. Hope they keep coming!

Wow, what a finale. Really had me on the edge there man, great racing!
Really enjoyed that race, like something out of a movie, especially with the recovery from the spin!
Woaw awesome battles with Jim Clark!! Crazy race mate 😁 and awesome video too 👌
oh man, that was just so so so good to watch. Well done and congratulations. I’ll send a link to my good friend David Brabham - I’m sure he will be thrilled to watch!
Best race of the series from the best UA-camr of the Genre
Well done and congrats!
A thrilling race throughtout. Excellent video!
I very much look forward for the Full Tasman Mod to come out, along with Longford.
Great race to watch and deserved result. Looking forward to what's next for Ritchie
Nice job, what an exciting finish to the season.

Great job Jake :) Champion !!! :) bring on 1967 :)
Great stuff, definitely deserve more subs! Hope this continues to grow.
What a race!
What a race! A great way to end the Tasman series
Gotta love the low res backgrounds, really makes you feel like it's 1966 😂
the dipper is my favorite corner to ride on my street luge.... makes your stomach drop and a lot of g force
Great race!
Wonderful track.
Well done Jake👏👏
Congratulations for your first title!!

The rearview mirror action is the best in this game.
Dang I didn't know F1 raced in Bathurst Australia, wow Interesting.
Yeah they ran open wheelers until the early 80s. Finally got stopped when a car passed another (through the air) over one of the humps on Conrod.
This is some crazy stuff!!!
Those last few laps were actually really stressful to watch haha. I admit I yelled at my monitor a couple of times when you hesitated to pass him ;p
Congrats Jake :)
Looked to me like Jim had a mechanical Jake, he seemed to lose all speed after your "blockpass" ;) Always fun watching your vids!
He might also have hit a berm and damaged his suspension.
Fabulous driving... most non GPL people will never understand how demanding GPL is.. I was exhausted driving a 7 la Monza rac.. let alone this best circuit in the world Bathurst
I had a lap around Bathurst when I was a kid and we were doing a school trip to the goldfields. It was boring. Should have been scary.
Great racing!
good times ...this game is awsome !!!!
A lot of the Touring Car drivers from the 1070's and 80's, also commented that the track was easier to drive before all the walls were erected.
Great!!!!👍👍👍👍
1:50 I've never seen someone waving the checkered flag looking the wrong way. Must be for the selfie?
Amazing as always best racing channel on UA-cam! Would love to see you on SRS, sim racing system in Assetto Corsa, it's like iracing but free, there's 3 classic series going on.

I kept saying "PUSH PUSH PUSH!!!" while watching.
Bummed Richie couldn't make it to Sandown because it is my local track.
Good shit!
you should research the Lobethal street circuit just outside Adelaide, South Australia.
Imagine how much faster you and Clark would be without your massive iron balls weighing you down. My god.
Hey man sim racing system is having a race series with jim Clarks lotus on old track sunday and Saturday. Today is a race as well give it a go would love to see you take part in it
Saw the Moffat-Bond 1-2.
Finallly!!!
Wish I could get my GPL working.
sweet!
Great racing. Didn't you finish on 37 points?
What Quattro Gaming said!
you tell that bathurst was created in 1958. That is actually the year I was born. Funny.
Can someone make a proper version of 60s Mount panorama for AC or RF2 plz
Oh no, Jim Clark killed a steward!
Yeah sure, Clark had an "accident" in Round seven right at the start. #rigged
Great series, deserved winner, keep it up!
Honestly GPL’s AI makes for exciting championships on the own, no need to manipulate it myself.
Hope you enjoyed!
Forza UA-camr: OG BAAAAAthurst 🐐
Me: You may beat me on modern track. but. can you beat me on the OG circuit? cuz I hope like sliding through the curves.
I love your videos but I just cannot understand how you're able to not swear at all. When I race, especially GPL, the air can get really blue.
Why are you not in a broadcast booth calling races?? You do better commenting on a race you’re actually racing than many do a race they’re watching
find me a booth :)
V8 Supercars be like

the track here was made in 2001, so long before data scans and good tools were available. For its time I think its quite nice
