Thank you for this!! I've been stretching for 10 minutes then going into basic kicks before more complex ones. I'm new at this and have a long way to go but I love it!
For anyone who wanted a list: Side kick (without extending, just raising) Front kick Outward crescent Inward crescent Back kick stretch (opposite of front kick) Alternating Bo stance Horse stance with groin stretch Done dynamically.
I must admit, that when I first saw a 'westerner' trying to teach 'Chinese' martial arts; I thought to myself what a bunch of sheer stuff and nonsense. However, after watching video after video; I have to admit that I find your hard work to be well and truly excellent. Thanks very much for sharing. I'm not necessarily saying that I would rate you as being a top martial art 'master'; however, I'd certainly say you were pretty damn good in ability; also, your teaching is superb(one hell of a lot better than others I see here on the net); especially so for people who are 'beginners' like myself. Thanks, again; I really appreciate the seriousness with which you approach both teaching/learning; namely, the amount of time and effort you are willing to put in.
Great videos, thank you very much for your lessons. When I was very young i was able to do all of these kicks. My severe back injury however stop all that many years ago. Just recently I am trying to get back at least some of my kicks and flexibility back. Its not easy but I am trying.
He was talking about leafy green vegetables like kale, collard greens, etc. He also said that he likes to repeat his work outs in 3 sets. I hope that's the scale that you were talking about. Happy training!
Is this your secret Kick? No disrespect, but it is taught in 1st level classes of white belts [refer to my karate class]. Your video is good, better give it a right title....Thanks!
I need to work on my blade kicks, my side kicks are not high enough, I can do side splits both sides but not my front split. good video Jake, I do these kind of warm ups everymorning to wake up the body before deeper streching, its helps my yoga practice and meditation is more comfortable and balanced.
can u make a vid showing ur whole training including the warm ups and push ups everything else, every day u do? im trying to find a good way for warm up for kata's or something like that
Salut, he said leafy greens: collard greens, kale, kohlrabi, maybe beet greens (even maringa [I've never heard of this]), and spinach. He said to pick foods high up on the ANDI (aggregate nutrient density index) scale. I'm sure what ever leafy greens you have in France will work well.
when i do these types of exercises my hips clunk big time is that normal or am i doing something wrong I trained for around 15 years when i was younger and i remember that the clunking started back then,, i have recently started training again and the clunking is still there also my lower back starts to get sore if i try to hold my kicks up.. this is why I stopped training all those years ago ...do you have any advice...thanks
do we need to extend our flexibility first like doing split exercice, because I can't reach that high, my kick reach only about my chest. It's more a middle kick than high kick
Hey should i train my front splits to be able to do the side split cose it seems so hard to get to the side split even thaugh i push myself so so so hard
Get the videos/books from Tom Kurz. This video is only saying 1/4 of the story. Also, the kicking they were doing is not better than running for cardio. Kicking is great cardio for kicking. Running is better for fat loss (over 20 min @ 80% of MHR) and cardio (up to 20 min @ 80%of MHR). They are not "moving kicks". The term is dynamic stretching and is used for basic flexibility. Static and isometric stretching are also needed. You want just static stretching, become a gymnast, ballet dancer, or yogi.
Ken Vs. Dhalsim! Great tips, I like that they're not the generic touch your toes stretches. I've never considered dynamic stretching vs static stretching. Thanks for these :)
Hi, great video. There's just one thing though, I couldn't understand the name of all those foods, if someone could please right them down here it'd be nice. Also the name of that scale that he talks about in the end. Again, nice video, great channel.
Hi Jake Mace, thanks for this video! I'm from France so english is not my native language and I don't get everything you say... can you write what food you recommand to increase flexibility? Thx sifu!
Craig Braithwaite Craig !!!!!!! How R U? We would love to see you. Let me know if you would like to start the Filipino martial Arts or other classes.xo
I would love to engage my warrior spirit with battle training, Thus far this season has been occupied with improving my knowledge of medicinal and edible food in wild and not so wild places. I have participated in some excellent wild foraging classes. In fact, 4 more sessions and I will have my masters in local foraging!..But I do need to get more physical. I was still a little hesitant, but since my 1 year re-birthday since falling out of the sky I feel sufficiently healed to start rebuilding muscle mass and battle reflexes. Please send the necessary when, where, how much info so I can start planning to learn from you and your mentor. Maria, I had such a good visit with Jin-bo and Ivy for my physical birthday in March. What a radiant glowing spirit he is.. what a chrysalis state of metamorphosis he is undergoing, what a muse and inspiration my friend is to my grateful life. I passed under a total sky arching rainbow in a storm as I traveled true north in New Mexico. These are but mere road signs in my warrior training path. Thank you for the invitation BTW how is your Jazzy hudband. All well I hope. Ttyl Craig "Bush Docta'
Thanks. I'm planning to be a MMA-ist (preferably Kickboxing or Muay Thai as my preferred style.) - so kicks are important, and I need flexibility as my kicks have no power if they go above my stomach because I use power to reach my chest. haha.
hey jake I will be incorporating these as well as always great video I did notice even though this is for flexibility should you maintain the defensive hand position I noticed the student is leaving his face open for the entire session all of the kicks my comment is based on preventing the development of a bad habit of putting the hands down when u kick living vital points exposed
I'll admit I talked shit about the martial art and still think there are much more viable martial arts, but this has helped my flexibility immensely. I take back calling you a goofball, thanks for the information, much appreciated.
Seriously I can actually axe kick to the head, where as before I could only land around the lower chest, that's absolutely nutty XD in 5 - 6 days time it was THAT effective.
ich benutz diese übungen um meine beine nach dem kettlebell-training zu entspannen .... klasse videos und sehr gut erklärt .... grüße aus berlin ^^ i use this routine to relax and stretch my legs after my kettlebell-workout ... very good videos and very well explained routines .... greets from berlin ^^
Hi Jake, I've been looking to get the perfect horse stance (despite my bad flexibility that I'm everyday getting softer) What do you recommend to get that perfect position, I mean, maybe exercises to get it by parts or something like that hehe, I was afraid to keep practicing bad and get bad results. Wait your answer, and thanks for the videos. Cheers and health for you guys :)
How are you almost out of breath after 40 stretch kicks? My school does 120 (6 kicks, all direction types) before we even need to take a moment break... in the beginner classes. Plus, we don't do the lazy versions done here. And we don't make up 'hardcore' names for things. I wish I could say it's a style difference, but this is just half-assed.

Koryuhoka actually he has many good things to teach, he is a great teacher!
No... he's a fraud. since you don't have a background in real martial arts, you think that any fancy movement is good.

what kinds of food do u use for flexibility
Plant based food! Dark leafy greens!!!
Water. Dry muscles are very difficult to stretch.
In the words of Jackie Chan..."HE HAS NO KUNG FU!"
we always keep our standing leg straight as well
tnx 4 sharing the secret ;)
good
nice horse stance! very rare to find nowadays!
