- Judy Garland - Battle Hymn of the Republic - The Judy Garland Show - 4K - Colour - 60FPS.
I've spent quite some time restoring this video, it's one of my favourites.
It’s restored from a capture of the TV episode in 1963 downloaded from UA-cam so there are limits of what to expect. With the low bit rate the trade off with upscaling was going to be a loss of detail.
The process involved expanding the video into individual frames and resizing the frames to 8k so I have some wiggle room detail wise. I wanted to get every little detail that I could from the low bitrate video.
Then I created PS App Droplet to automatically edit and adjust each frame based on my edits to one frame. Then it automatically output the adjusted frames to my hard drive.
After this I imported the image sequence and recompiled the video using the same technique as animation.
From there I cropped the 8k video to 4k 16:9 which should pinch in the details and make it look a little better at that resolution.
In the end, I hope that I have something that stirs more vivid memories of the great actor and singer, Judy Garland.
She never cheated an audience she always gave everything
I love the way you worded that statement ❤️
She got such a positive overwhelming response for that she repeated it on the show 2 weeks later 🌝 thanks so much for the colorized version
What wasn't shown was the 10 minute standing ovation that she received for this single performance.
What a talent! She was truly a gift from the gods
Fabulous work mate. Thanks for sharing.
Here in mid-September 2024. While we still have a republic. And would you look at that: Ms. Garland is STILL here with us! That's some kind of magic!
Thank you so much for your amazing work on this clip! It is such a privilege to see it in color, and with such improved sound quality! It is one of the greatest video clips I've seen...
WOW! Truly the best singer of all time and one amazing actress. I remember watching her as a small kid with my family on her tv show. There will NEVER EVER be another like Judy.
Judy Garland and Billie Holiday are two geniuses who could keep on singing even when their voices have diminished. Genius!!!!
Wow what a performance, I got goose bumps. Judy Garland was the best of the best performers ever. God bless her.
Always wondered what would of happened to the JG Show if it wasn't put up against Bonanza and smashed the ratings. Judy wasn't the gamble some execs thought she would be. She delivered every week.
The first episode of Judy's show that aired (not the first one taped) beat Bonanza. So home viewers were willing to give her a chance. But by the second week, Bonanza took over, and its lead got bigger and bigger. Judy was terrific, but that particular episode, guest-starring Donald O'Connor, was pretty bad.
@@akrenwinkle I wouldn't say bad but I can see where you're coming from.
Just ironic that as the shows got stronger the ratings generally got smaller.
@@karencarpenterarchiveplayl7267 Of course it's very subjective, but I think the first shows taped, produced by George Schlatter, which reflected Judy's personality, should have been shown first because they were better and less cringy than the subsequent ones. I believe there was room for both Bonanza and Judy, but CBS blew it.
@@akrenwinkle I agree.
One can tell that Judy was barely able to keep it together towards the end of the video.
You did an unbelievable job. Thank you for your expertise and improving the quality of the original. You should be so proud of your accomplishment.
This might be my favorite Judy Garland performance.
To say she put her all in that is a gross understatement.
No one has ever - and I don't think anyone ever will, especially this current group of singers, ever sing that song like Judy Garland. Period.
This performance is stunning and when you realize this is only one week or so post JFK assassination, it is the voice of God coming through. God bless Judy Garland.
This is the singer Barbra called the hreatest dinger who ever lived. Simply amazing. John❤
Streisand said her favorite singer was Joni James .
Judy sounds flat in this video .
WOW! BRAVO, BRAVO JUDY! Of all that God created, you outshine them all!
No one gave it their all like Judy did. Performers just "phone it in" nowadays. Everything is done for them before they even step on a stage...they literally show their asses and receive applause. With all of her personal battles, Judy was the epitome of talent.
Yup, and they didn’t have auto tune then. The great thing about that was you can hear the uniqueness of the human voice. Judy, in spite of her tragic circumstances was easily one of the most talent performers of the 20th century.
I can’t put into words the power of this performance, what a singer
Here we hear the voice of God himself singing through Judy. Breathtaking.
beautiful, and careful colorization of a national treasure.
Interesting to see in color. Miss Garland's great performance. I own the Ray Aghayan gown she wore that night and at the very beginning of the video the color is just about right. It is a very deep vivid red. Covered in sequins, beads, and rhinestones and very heavy.
I was born the day she was buried. Always have felt such a connection, and such a wonderful song, one of my favorites, makes the feeling even more special. Thanks for sharing! ❤️
@@chrisoxner4909 Maybe you are her, reincarnated..... (please forgive my humor)
Hello Charles,
I remember you and your collection from one of the "Judy Lists," which I left when they became maniacal!
Nice bumping into you again.
Our dear girl still has it!
YES she does!!! I am not on ANY on line groups at this point. Glad to bump into you@@mike48877
How did you acquire it?
At least a million views for this fantastic lady
Such a powerful and stirring rendition! Thanks so much to Fitzgerald Creative for the countless hours of effort put in to deliver excellent color and great sound on this treasure.
Our pleasure!
I thank you again for the great work that you are doing! You are making thousands and perhaps millions of people so very happy when they see what you have done with Judy in color! 😇 🤗🥰😍💌❤️
👠✨ Hollywood’s Greatest of All.
BEYOND OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!! Sometimes there are no words!!
Color is fantastic!
Well done - I always disliked "colorization," mostly because of a garish/unreal end result. This was as close to the original (real life) as could be expected. This was (for a good many) Garland's best single performance during her year-long television series. Cheers to you Fitzgerald, and I will look for more of your good work! P.S. I won't pretend that I fully understand all of the technical endeavors you described, but it is clear you put much work into this. Cheers and thanks!
Best colorization I’ve seen so far in any media. It actually had me fooled for a minute till I thought it through 😊
One of my favorite videos on UA-cam. So awesome to see it in color!!
My first time watching it in color, too!❤️
Your work on this video is...STUNNING!!
Thank you For your hard work and talent.
Outstanding. Really.
Thank you for your hard work in bringing this iconic performance to life in living color!! So gorgeous!
Thank you so much!
And I don't know if you know this .
Judy sang this song on her show in honor of her friend JFK , who just a week or two before had been assassinated .
The producers did not want her to sing this song (they thought it too political ), nor did they want Judy to mention she was singing this as a tribute to him .
When the show was aired , right before she started to sing , she said to the audience ... "Jack , this is for you ." The producers conveniently edited that line out because they definitely thought this was too political to air , and could affect the ratings . (Always money being more important than any heartfelt moment shown , that might offend someone )
I was really amazed that she could even muster up the strength to get through the entire song with the whole world still reeling from the tragedy of his assassination .
You can see her slightly get emotional during the performance , but she finds a way to make it through the entire song without crumbling .... because the show MUST go on .
Crazy that mourning the murder of the president was considered too politically controversial.
Very well stated.
I love this performance of her's and never seen it in color until now! Thank you. There should be a Renaissance where every B&W video is colorized
Thank you so much for all your hard work in bringing these phenomenal performances into color. I am so grateful to be able to watch these. Thank you!
She had so much talent
Judy wasn’t wearing any jewelry in this performance. Not even earrings. Hadn’t noticed that in the b&w version. Love this performance.
I think the sparkly dress was quite enough, more bling would have been over-the-top.
Thanks, Fitzgerald.❤️
She did this for JFK, right?
Yes, it was a tribute to JFK. The producers didn’t want it to be a political message, allegedly editing out “This is for you, Jack.”
Correct. She and JFK were very close. Is there a video out there that shows all the times they were together you could tell there was mutual admiration and love. When JFK was stressed he would call her and she would sing somewhere over the rainbow to him on the phone ☺️
Thank you never saw a colorized version of this magnificent performance. One of the most outstanding vocal performance in the history of singing. She belts out rage at the loss of JFK yet also shows how much she loved and admired him at the same time 😢
She simply said "Jack this is for you"
It kills me to know what the studio system did to this beautiful woman.
Thank you xx
As I recall (I was 10 when it happened) this was recorded AFTER JFK was assassinated. I remember her saying...."This is for you, Jack" as she used to talk to him all the time when he was president and he'd ask her to sing "Over the Rainbow" for him. I still remember that and I'm not sure why that part has been cut out apparently. Or maybe it was another performance. This song always gets to me.
Wow. This one is truly magical!
The gospel
Pure and simple
D accord avec Mr James hall.sophie pianiste de jazz
EFFORTLESS and without vocal antics.....Every word was understood and no taking breaths that disrupted the lyric to make a show off vocal effect by singing all over the scale on one word. She didn't BS like that to conceal her vocal weaknesses.
👏👏💖🌹
Was this the o e recorded in December right after Kennedys assassination?
Didn't she sing this for JFK on her TV show
? because she couldn't mention his death?
😢
Thank you God for saving Trump's life on July 13th, 2024.
Hollywood destroyed her. I can tell in her voice that she is drugged up! I hope those evils who did that to her are suffering.
She was crying because her friend and the President of the US, had just been murdered a few days before. She was singing this song as a tribute to him. That’s what you heard in her spectacular voice.
@@bruw5640 No, that's the same way she sounds in her interviews.
@@MattBruns How about just celebrating her life and her unprecedented 45 year career? The infinite joy and happiness she has brought the world!! Still to this day Judy is considered to be the “World’s Greatest Entertainer.” We just celebrated the anniversary of Judy’s 100th birthday. What a massive body of work she left for us to enjoy. I’ve read and heard all the good and bad stories...have seen all the interviews and documentaries. I love and celebrate this great lady and thank God for giving Judy her talent to share with the world.
@@bruw5640 She was a joy to the world and I wish she was around in my time. The way Hollywood treated her was horrible.
@@MattBruns She was paid, in the mid-1940s, about $1,000 a day, 6 days a week for her film work, and allowed to do radio and ads, too, when she chose. She was given prescription benzedrine to get rid of her baby fat during her teen years, and not thereafter... Judy enjoyed them, as well as downers and booze, and procured them herself. Young people today say that rehab clinics were invented by Betty Ford, but they have been around since the time of silent movies. MGM more than once gave Judy time off and paid for her recovery.
She did this days after JFK assassination.
