@@Trisagionfilms I am biblical and do not subscribe to a denomination. But doctorinlly I think I am more of a Protestant and in terms of work and lifestyle an orthodox.
@Neil Wiggs The Assyrian church is not in communion with any Eastern or Oriental Orthodox church body. They are interesting though, because their Christology is more like the Christology of the Antiochian school prior to the time of St. Cyril of Alexandria. There was a fierce rivalry between the two churches prior to the sad events at the Councils of Ephesus (the so-called Robber council) and the Councel of Chalcedon. That said, although they regard themselves as continuation of the Church of the East, neither Eastern nor Oriental Orthodox would consider them to be Orthodox because they Christology is nestorian-ish. Fascinating topic though.
Praise God! I am also an ex Muslim. If you will forgive me for unsolicited advice, definitely dig into the Church fathers. There is such a wealth of learning and wisdom to be had in their writings and their struggles. St. John of Damascus is certainly of interest to former Muslims like ourselves. In any event, praise be to Almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for bringing us both out of the darkness of error and into the light of truth!
I am an Assyrian. I truly love this channel and learn so much from it. I grew up in Northern Iraq and every summer my parents would take me to Mar Mattay ( st. Mathew) monastery. It was the best time and memories of my lifetime. Those places are so holy and full of peace. St. Isaac pray for us.
I moved to Bahrain last year…. Who would have guessed that I would grow closer to God and learn so much about Orthodox Church history, living in a Muslim country….
I am part of the western church, born American. Father God has performed countless miracles though me. But my soul was still angry, proud boastful and full of bitterness. The lord is full of mercy toward anyone who is willing to bring their true self into his glorious light and let it expose the inner darkness. I started searching for this information that i just heard, 2 years ago. after having a vision of the narrow path being the inner journey that leads to the Christ in us(eternal life). Not the outwardly expression that leads to pride. Thank you
I had read some information about this saint about thirty years ago, when I was studying about the Aramaic-Syriac language and literature, and afterwards wrote an article about Syriac writers for a magazine called "Al-Fida'a" of the Byzantine-Catholic ("Melchite") community here in Venezuela. But never did I knew he was so remarkable and extraordinary. Thanks for an inspiring documentary. I will put this into notice for my friends in Facebook. It should be more known.
I lived in a small town on the edge of the desert. There was a Serbian monastery there. I found a lot of peace and clarity there even with the hardships. Learned a lot. Still miss that place.
The sentences Of Saint Isaac is one of the most powerful thing i ever red. His words are as seeds that are never ending growing. One of my favourite sentence which really often comes to my mind: "Fear the habits more than the enemies".
Always thought the same. I guess it’s because they sound so authentic as if coming straight from the heart. There are some great fathers whose writings clearly followed the rules of either Greek or Latin rethoric, and by doing that, or trying to convince someone, they lost some rawness and authenticity. In st. Isaac’s there isn’t a single word that is not necessary.
This so touched my heart. Reminding me of the true grace if God as it works through a submissive life to be poured out as an offering for the lives of others. This is love that you lay down your life for the brethren. No greater love has man than this. Peace to all!
