“St. Joseph the Hesychast and the Jesus Prayer” is the latest episode in our “Chronicles of the Desert” series. In this episode, we learn about the saint’s earliest days on Mount Athos and the numerous ascetics he met in his search to find a spiritual father who could teach him the Jesus Prayer and watchfulness, or inner wakefulness. St. Joseph not only discovered the prayer of the heart but eventually became a great teacher of noetic prayer. His wisdom and practical experience can be found in the collection of his letters, “Monastic Wisdom”, one of the sources for this video. In it, he also recommends the classic book, “The Way of a Pilgrim” as a good starting point for anyone wanting to learn about the Jesus Prayer. This is of course best practiced under the guidance of a spiritual father and within the sacramental life of the church. But for those who pray with humility and sincere repentance, will find themselves more open to the presence of God, as St. Joseph writes:
“God continuously sees you. Why don’t you see Him? Entreat Him and endure your temptations, and your eyes will open to see Him, and then together with Job you will cry out, ‘I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear: but now my eye sees You. Wherefore I abhor myself, and reckon myself as dust and ashes.’”

St Joseph the Hesychast healed me from troubles with my lever. I had a photo of him framed and kept it inside my study out of curiosity. The photo has been there for almost two years. Recently I developed troubles with my lever. I prayed to him and promised to visit his tomb on the Holy Mountain. The results from blood tests came back all normal. Trust me, he is one person so close to the Divine healer and our Panaiagh. I will visit the Holy Mountain soon if God allows and fulfil the promise I made.

God bless you! Please never stop saying, never stop putting God first and listening to his voice above all others. Alas, I am in my fifties now, and I was never given this advice. My family considered themselves Christian but really were not. I ignored the call to the convent, because my mother wanted me to be successful. Now my mother is long gone, and I bitterly regret many things I did when I was young. I can repent. but I can't undo them. Please live your life as if Jesus himself is standing there watching you, because he is. Then you will not go far wrong. Pray daily, and never do anything you wouldn't do if God was watching. Then you will not end like me, with a life of regrets.
@@wmnoffaith1 i can relate. i have something for you my dear friend, matter fact two things. st isaac the syrian-"let us not grieve when we make a slip, but when we become hardened by it" and 2 corinthians 12:7-9 "7 So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations,[a] a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

May God bless you! Keep fighting. I have been through depression for many years, even suicidal. Keep praying and put your faith în God. No matter what may come into your life, know He loves you. Search for Him and obey His commandments. I wish I could hug you and help you în any way possible. Just dont give into these states . If you have to, take antidepresants. But keep watching old good movies, comedies with Louis de Funes and others, watch videos with babies and children and nature. Do some exercises, force yourself a little to get out of the darkness. I know how hard it is, but dont give up. Whenever you want to talk, leave a message here. You can do this, you are not alone, I promise you.

Gosh, I live just below the Corcovado Mountain, with the Huge Statue of Christ, the Redeemer on top,in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I must go up there more often (usually mostly tourists go, although we all have gone too many times), to honour Jesus and God.
As a mountain man hearing the shepard kaval that plays tears comes from my soul, recognise old macedonian song,western world has lost conection with tradotion with God wisdom,and to all youngsters avoid seeking ortodox life in modern Babilons on the west ,when went in Solun or Thesalnoniki i still see people making cross when pasing small church even when siting in bus such a humblness,such repect and quick thought about the saints or Mother Mary,Jesus .Oposit of that met a christian girl from Bulgaria failed into charsimatic movement church that can not recognise the cross but the speaking in thongs such a despetion that i recognised it as a sin than and now confirmed by the ortodox fathers.Pray for my sins and show me the riight path to Jesus oh my mercifull God.

This comes after a long period of struggling spiritually. I've been begging the Lord for the grace to unlearn the "greatness" of the secular world and its superfluous speech, in exchange for embracing a life of sincere repentance and interior stillness in that wilderness where God alone is teacher. Perhaps one day, but only with the grace of God, I may be able to discover what I basically, and crucially, need - the Divine - and so be able to say in humility, eternally: Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me.
To all who have, like me, watched this beautiful video, I wish you peace and God's blessings that can only be found in the silence of His vast Wilderness.

I always have a problem with bodily fasting, so I cant receive the Holy Eucharist as much as I would wanted to. 🙏
Don't abstain from Communion because you haven't fasted like st. Joseph the Hesychast find a spiritual father and at least try to fast from the basics on Wednesdays and Fridays.
@@Trisagionfilms Thank you so much! 💓 I live in metropolis where only in one parish we have three archpriests and a priest, and that goes for almost every Church in the city. I consider all of them as my spiritual fathers, so I don't know how to choose only one. Regularly I have spiritual conversations with at least five of them. All of them would agree that spiritual fasting is more important.
i can relate, i have a condition that prevents me from fasting as it puts me in pain. as soon as i am better by the will of God i will be fasting deep in prayer.
