    Are you wondering what tallow is? Beef tallow is something that was probably very familiar to our great grandparents, but now not many are familiar with it. Tallow is definitely worth bringing back, since it has a myriad of health benefits. And, it makes the most delicious French fries you'll ever eat!

    If we kill the cow to eat the meat, it makes sense to use the whole animal. That alone can show thankfulness, a grateful attitude, and respect for the animal that feeds your family.

    I rendered my own beef fat from leftover fats from the chef at my job. I use it for cooking and making facial moisturizers out of it. My favorite scent that mixes well with the tallow is citrus oil and sandalwood. When mixed with the tallow and heat, it creates a sweet, almost milky-caramel scent to it. I use it for my under-eye area, elbows, and other dry spots on my skin. It's hands down the best moisturizer I have ever used and its 100% made by me :)

    In Australia in the 80’s, when I was growing up, most people had their lard and dripping (what you call tallow) tins in the cupboard... after roasting or frying pork or beef the fat was drained off into a tin and used again and again for cooking. It was rare to actually buy lard or dripping.

    I have had an allergic reaction to my face. Red, swollen, hives with stinging and itching. I have tried few ingredients creams and only slight improvement. I went to a local health food and nutrition store and the lady showed me a hand made grass fed organic tallow face cream. It has some natural plant base oils in. I washed my face with a bar of pure coconut oil and applied the tallow cream. My face calmed down and I have never had such hydrated glowing skin! I will always use this and never buy the facial products on the market. Amazing stuff.

    Cool video. But, I have to say (not to you) that it cracks me up that the very same types of people who not very long ago assailed things like tallow and lard as the most unhealthy and vile things in the world and scoffed in amazement that our Grandparents cooked with this stuff as though it was so beneath them and their enlightened, modern dietary sensibilities, are the very same ones who today as a mantra to their enlightened sensibilities, are lauding the health benefits and natural wonders of these miraculous, animal-based elixirs. 😄 Yeah. I keep a jar of bacon grease next to the stove all the time. So I thought there must be something good to do with this tallow. Your video answered that question. I have another question. Would there be any harm mixing my beef tallow with my bacon grease? I love to taste the bacon and I use the grease in cooking already. But would beef tallow and bacon grease complement or work against each other?

      I use beef Wagyu tallow and bacon grease and butter daily on all eggs and meats I eat. I have jars of each next to my stove at all times. The butter is the only one that I have to clean out every 3-5 days depending on how fast I go through it. The other 2 can just be added to as you use them up. I like the flavor and benefits of all three.

    Please don't consider this post as being hostile to the points you are making. I think this is a great video. This is just some thoughts I have on it. Regarding your statements beginning at 4:40 you deplore the "traditional American diet" and then proceed to talk about getting back to a traditional diet. How do you define a traditional diet? Human beings are the most omnivorous creatures on earth. We inhabit and thrive in more different environments than almost any other complex species. And what constitutes a traditional American diet? You did a great job of making me think enough to formulate these questions. BTY I "liked" your video.

The standard American diet is the way people have been eating in the US for the last 50-100 years. Hope that helps!

    • @BumblebeeApothecary
      @BumblebeeApothecary  5 років тому +1

      Sheep tallow sounds awesome. And great question! It depends on if you're able to get all of the water out of the tallow, and what temperature you store it at. If it's free of water and stored in a cool-ish location, it should last around 6 months. If the conditions are warm, it won't last quite that long. If it goes bad, or gets moldy, it will be obvious. If it looks and smells fine, then it's still good. Hope that helps!

      For the bone broth, I probably wouldn't use it after around two weeks. I usually try to use mine within a week. If you're not sure it smells okay, it would probably be best to be safe and not consume it. If you have pets, like dogs or cats, they can have it 😊I hope that helps! Yes! It is a vitamin A deficiency, so tallow balm will help, but there is internal supplementation to do also. You can learn more here: traditionalcookingschool.com/food-preparation/keratosis-pilaris-5-steps-to-get-rid-of-chicken-skin-naturally-with-non-toxic-product-reviews-aw133/

    I am buying tallow (FAT) from a local farmer and have to fry it out to get the "oil" you get white FAT and Yellow FAT from the meat. What is the difference between white and yellow tallow. how can I get the yellow tallow into white soap

    • @BumblebeeApothecary
      @BumblebeeApothecary  5 років тому +1

      The white is probably from the higher quality, leaf fat. You can make soap with either, but the white makes the nicest soap 😊

    Please tell me how to get rid of the tallow smell

    • @BumblebeeApothecary
      @BumblebeeApothecary  5 років тому +1

      There are some things you can do to lessen or hide it, but since it's a natural, unrefined product, it will probably still have a mild "beef" smell. If it's rendered properly, it shouldn't be a strong smell, though! Make sure when you're rendering to stop when it's finished rendering (it isn't popping much) but well before it starts to burn. Burnt tallow will smell stronger. Make sure you're using the highest quality beef fat you can find. Finally, adding some essential oils (I use 24 drops for a 4 oz. container) will definitely cover up any remaining beef smell. Hope that helps!

    Has anyone found that tallow creams can break them out at all or make skin oily? I have dermatillomania so I pick my skin apart and I don't want to use something that will cause acne causing me to pick more

    • @BumblebeeApothecary
      @BumblebeeApothecary  4 роки тому +3

      I haven't experienced tallow making skin oily or making me break out. Tallow has skin repairing and antimicrobial proprieties that make it very helpful when dealing with acne prone skin. It also helps to balance skin's oil production to prevent skin producing too much oil. It doesn't clog pores, either. A little goes a long way! Hope that helps :)
