    You could do experiment like leaving a really small aquarium mossy, and let each of them clean, which took the least and the most time to clean.

    Nice video, I use Malaysian Snails and Ramshorn Snails to keep my tanks clean. They are not only good for cleaning the algae up but also eat up any excess food so the shrimp don't over-feed. I made a channel to show you can make low-maintenance, small planted aquariums out of glass bottles and I keep a few shrimp and snails in a glass drinks dispenser!

    Nerite snails are amazing. As you said shrimps tend not to touch the glass. Though the babies love eating the biofilm so of wanting to breed shrimp it's best to leave some algae for food

    this is probably one of the best videos I’ve seen on algae eaters, even though I don’t understand liters xD I’m currently searching for an algae eater to go in my 3.5 gallon with my betta cause there’s a bunch of brown algae growing in there. if I can’t find a suitable tankmate I may get in there myself and clean it out a second time. absolutely adored the theme song for this channel and all the information put here in the little tidbits for each critter. keep up the amazing work!

    Nice video! I have a 14g tank with a nerite snail, but the snail poops too much, and I am thinking of getting a few Amano shrimp instead. Do the shrimp also poop a lot, and is their poop a dark brown/black or a More orangish brown like the nerite snails? I have a black substrate and I am looking for their waste to blend in and not be visible. Please let me know, and thanks!

    Thanks for reminding me that 3 otocinclus isn't enough for them to feel comfy. That's probably why I almost never see them around, only when the lights dim, they pop up on the front glass.
    And I'll remind my brother that Amano shrimp can help his algae problem! :)
    His stringy dark algae is residing from the mosses and plants with Algae-Exit from Easylife, but I still see those black plumes on his pieces of driftwood...

    Amano shrimp are 99% perfect. Except they will easily climb out of your aquarium. Huge bummer for rimless aquarium keepers.

  • @EverydayAquarist
    @EverydayAquarist 5 років тому +1

    I really like MTS. They do a great job at disturbing the substrate to stop detritus and toxic gasses building up. They will clean the glass and plants at night when they come out. Although they breed easily, if your tank gets over populated it's because you're overfeeding them or the fish, and they are eating the leftovers.

    • @SimplyShrimps
      @SimplyShrimps  5 років тому

      This is true. I maintain someone’s tank and you could literally draw a smiley face on the glass by knocking off the snails 😂 I told them to feed less. Next time I cleaned the tank there was an acceptable amount of snails 🐌

    🌺Love your videos! Once I was planning to purchase some Amano shrimps, but salesperson didn't recommend me keeping them with my Red Cherry Shrimps (RCS). Salesperson said, they'll eat & be very aggressive to the RCS, so I didn't get them. Someone else told me Siamese Algae Eaters (SAE) are especially great at eating Black Beard Algae. Was told to purschase the baby SAE & when it gets too large, return them to the store or put them in a larger tank. What do you think of using SAE in a small tank?🤔

    • @SimplyShrimps
      @SimplyShrimps  5 років тому

      It depends on how big your tank is? But I would agree amano shrimp can be more aggressive eaters and can harass others. The SAE would have to be pretty tiny. I did the same to be honest once. I put a SAE that was about 5-6cm in a 50 litre aquarium then moved it out. It’s now in my 500 litre aquarium and about 15cm long :)

    For we brain impaired Americans it would be great if you gave the volume measurements in gallons as well as liters. I do okay with length of centimeters to inches but volume is much harder, especially for us old timers! I hear 10 liters and my brain thinks ---, hear 6-7 liters and my brain thinks ---. It simply doesn’t compute!
    I loved the video! I bought my first shrimp two weeks ago for an outside 55 gallon tank that is covered in algae. I was assured that they would live outside in our temperatures. I hope they are living their best lives eating algae because there is a lot in there!

    Some very nice options in this video!
    I must ask a silly question, that's not actually related to this topic. How do you get any detritus out of the substrate in an aquarium with a plant carpet like your nano tank in this video? Or is that unnecessary in that sort of tank?

    • @SimplyShrimps
      @SimplyShrimps  4 роки тому +1

      You just siphon it like normal :) just press the siphon gently on the carpeting plant so that you don’t uproot them but it should be fine.

    If shrimp have nothing left to graze on, they will clean up the glass. But since they require so little to eat that the biofilm and algae on the other surfaces is plenty, they won't touch the glass. Also in my experience Neocaridina are the better algae eaters, because if they do not receive supplemental feeding, they eat more types of algae than Amanos. Amanos only seem more efficient because they eat more within a given time frame, they have larger appetite.

    • @SimplyShrimps

      Yeah it’s a fine line between the two. Amano shrimp will clean up quicker though as you said :)

      This is why I would suggest using a combination of a few different types of cleaners in your aquarium. If the size allows :)
