Duncan and Peachy was who taught me how to paint, Lloyd was who gave me confidence that I can paint. Thank you so much for getting him on the show. I'll enjoy this one.

Man, I needed this one and I didn’t even know it. I’ve not picked up a brush in months. Hobby started to feel different.
It hasn’t been the peaceful me time away from everything. Started pressuring myself to build and paint because I’d bought stuff, even though I wasn’t feeling it. Add to that work pressures, home renovation pressures and all the usual negative hobby types on UA-cam, Reddit etc…I closed up my desk in July and just left it as it was.
Haven’t even been listening or watching to creators for the last two months or so either. But last night I listened to this…
Not only has this given me some really great work motivation. But this morning the desk got unlocked (it’s all piled into a bureau) and I’ve painted, albeit just a little bit of one terminator and felt that quiet, peaceful feeling again.
    Cheers lads…

Lloyd gave me the confidence to actually really try and improve my painting skills with his Lumineth turiorials and the results were better than anything I thought I was capable of. I can’t thank him enough for breaking down a complex paint scheme into something that actually felt manageable .

I'm so glad you've mentioned the nonuniformity of the uniforms of the military. I worked in hospitality with a fellah about a decade ago who insisted that we needed to all look identical in our bar uniforms "just like the navy" (he'd been in the navy for a short stint) I (knowing many people in the military) pointed out that you'd be lucky to see any two members looking EXACTLY the same...

With respect to paint colours, bit of a behind the scenes from when I worked at a paint manufacturer.
The TL;DR production isn't perfect and paints change.
The folks in the lab would initially develop a formulation, part of which was the colour, and also focusing on things like weather resistance & deformation resistance (does the paint crack if a panel is bent or dented), and they'd have all the ingredients in EXACTING quantities/ratios.
This would then go to the production line, who'd keep roughly to that formula, but not very exactly, it was dealing with entire bags of ingredients and assuming the weights/volumes were accurate, which in most instances there's tolerances built in. Try this yourself, go and buy a few 1kg bars of chocolate (who says science can't be tasty!) and weigh them, see how many of them are exactly 1kg, then how many are over or under by up to about 50g.
So batch to batch the specific ratios will differ slightly, so that can have an impact on the finished colour and consistency.
Add to that, ingredient suppliers change over time, and you also have each suppliers inaccuracies that compound your own. And even if the supplier doesn't change, ingredients themselves can change due to regulations, difficulties in procurement etc.

While I agree that some of the "I must be completely right on the Internet" behaviour one sees in wargaming and military modelling is driven by the desire to simply be seen, and that much of the rudeness boils down the the anonymity and unreality of communicating via text, I do think there's another element worth considering. Both wargaming and military modelling, as well as role-playing, have for a very long time been "fringe" hobbies. But they're also hobbies with fairly well defined rules. Not just the games, but also in terms of how people are supposed to interact, what kinds of tools and tasks and so on that one needs, and I'm sure in many other ways I'm not thinking of right now. The upshot is that these hobbies are *very* attractive to neurodivergent people.
Broadly speaking, neurodivergence creates a tendency to view the world in binary terms. Either something is correct, or it is not. When a neurodivergent person internalizes a fact or detail, on an unconscious level this detail becomes fixed and unalterable. So in the mind of such people (and to be clear, I *am* neurodivergent, though much less so than some people I know), there is, in fact, only one right answer to the question of "what colour is the inside of a Tiger tank" painted. And the more someone says something that's "wrong," the more the neurodivergent brain digs in its heels and insists that it's "right."
This doesn't mean one should put up with rude behaviour. Every person has an obligation to try and get along with every other person, and even if one's brain isn't great at the task we all have to try. But the next time you end up in an argument with someone who is insisting that there's only one correct way to do anything, consider that this might be how that person's brain works, and rather than straight up arguing with them try to take a page from improv and work with a "yes, and" approach. "Yes, you're right, a lot of the time that *is* the colour of the inside of the Tiger tank. And sometimes, *this* is the colour." Gently introduce nuance and subtlety, and remain aware that for a lot of people, the idea that things don't fit into neat little checkboxes is incredibly distressing.

Lloyd, whenever someone brings up painting black power armor I always point them to your video about painting black power armor fast as a great option.
I had a lot of BT to try and paint in a short amount of time, and decided to use your tutorial after a lot of consideration. I didn't meet the deadline for the painting competition, but got a lot of reps in with a technique I hadn't used before (stippling), and really started taking into account where light hits a subject.

Great episode as always guys ❤. Alternativ to corax white is ak interactiv 3generation Light Gull Grey (tiny bit darker than corax), or silver grey (tiny bit lighter). Both are so much better to actully use. And kimera warm yellow smells like mango

I love seeing people discover how useful and practical oil paints/washes are for minis. The experience Pat was describing at 1hr 05m thereabouts is great.
Showing Iron Warriors players how to use masking tape is another great "oh my god its so easy" moment to observe too lol.

Please DO use an airbrush and DO use oils. I love the effect and it's annoying that youtubers are moving away from it after convincing me to make the change XD

Another great show. I do think the wide camera angle made me think of Lloyd as the well built Imperial Guardsman who made the mistake of sitting next to an Astartes. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the studio goes and what merriment you have in store for us.
